Background / History

Reincarnation Sect legacy

The Sacred Extremity Sect was founded by survivors of the Reincarnation Sect, a former Central Continent power counted among the Thirty-Three Upper Sects. Following a calamity roughly a millennium earlier, surviving members fled to the edge of the Eastern Continent and adopted a new name to avoid pursuit by their former enemies. Much of the original sect’s inheritance was plundered or destroyed, leaving its higher-realm legacy incomplete. 405 551

A century before Yang Qingyun’s entry, the sect reportedly relocated to the remote Seven Nations after losing a conflict against an overwhelmingly powerful major sect. Its arrival displaced the Moluo Cult, the previous rulers of the Seven Nations, though surviving cult remnants continued operating in secret. 126

Decline and rivalry

Despite its formidable reputation, the sect had been in decline for years. Its principal enemy was the neighboring Profound Spirit Sect, which covertly supported the Moluo Cult and repeatedly fought the Sacred Extremity Sect over border resources and influence. 126

An earlier assassination campaign eliminated several outstanding members of the Sacred Extremity Sect’s younger generation, including three Void Realm Grand Elders. The resulting loss of top-tier power forced the sect from an offensive position into a century of relative suppression. 385 449

Organization

Rank / Group Known status and responsibilities
Outer disciples Entry-level disciples. Changchun Temple’s top 100 competitors could enter this rank. 62
Elite outer disciples Granted superior privileges, including access to higher-grade cultivation chambers and restricted locations such as the Saber Tombs. 96
Inner disciples Required to reach the Innate Realm. 104
Elite inner disciples Mid-level backbone of the sect; could command outer and ordinary inner disciples during major battles. They received independent cave dwellings, spirit stones, pills, free access to manuals below Grandmaster Realm, and opportunities to oversee external regions. 304
Personal and secret disciples High-status disciples, reportedly possessing Grandmaster-level cultivation. 104 314
Elders and Ancestors The sect’s senior leadership and highest combat power. Nine Elders were reported when Yang Qingyun first entered the sect. 104

Changchun Temple

Changchun Temple serves as a branch and talent-selection site for the Sacred Extremity Sect. It gathers promising youths of the Chu Kingdom, conducts a major competition every three years, and sends qualifying disciples to the main sect. 57 62

Mountain gate and resources

The sect’s mountain gate possesses Spiritual Qi several times denser than Changchun Temple’s, while specialized cultivation rooms can be accessed with contribution points for even greater Qi density. Its standard resources include pills, Origin Stones, master guidance, and accumulated cultivation knowledge. 88

The main peak houses the External Affairs Hall, Internal Affairs Hall, Law Enforcement Hall, Scripture Repository, cultivation chambers, and the outer disciples’ residences. The broader sect territory also contains inner-sect areas and independent cave dwellings. 304

Inheritances and Sacred Assets

Life and Death Reincarnation Scripture

The Life and Death Reincarnation Scripture is the Sacred Extremity Sect’s sole remaining direct-lineage divine technique from the Reincarnation Sect. Its comprehension is exceptionally difficult; many past prodigies failed to gain anything from it and damaged their own prospects by devoting too much time to its study. 406 541

  • Mu Xiangzi was the only known sect member in a millennium to comprehend part of its true intent. 541
  • The Scripture complements the sect’s inherited sacred artifact, allowing the wielder to access devastating Life and Death power. 541 664
  • Mu Xiangzi used an incomplete understanding of the technique at the cost of his remaining lifespan. 664

Yin Yang Life and Death Mirror

The Yin Yang Life and Death Mirror is the sect’s inherited sacred artifact.

  • It can be activated through an understanding of Life and Death power. 410
  • Yang Qingyun used it to shatter the Profound Spirit Sect’s mountain-protection formation, which had resisted attacks from three peak Void Realm Ancestors. 410
  • Mu Xiangzi previously borrowed its power to annihilate the invading high-level forces threatening the sect. 401 410

Story Role / Major Arcs

Recruitment and early decline

Yang Qingyun is invited to join the Sacred Extremity Sect after recognizing it as the legendary force whose ruins he had encountered in his previous life. At the time, he expects the sect to suffer a catastrophic destruction within roughly ten years and initially plans to use its resources before escaping the coming calamity. 56 380

The sect provides Yang Qingyun with a vastly superior cultivation environment, formal inheritances through the Grandmaster and Great Grandmaster stages, and access to a world beyond the Seven Nations. 56 88

War against the Profound Spirit Sect

The conflict with the Profound Spirit Sect intensifies while Yang Qingyun is in seclusion. Inner disciples are mobilized to the front, sect prodigies suffer ambushes, and the Sacred Extremity Sect loses more than half of its Southern Heaven Domain territory. 309 380 382

Xie Qingtian’s advancement to the Great Grandmaster Realm restores morale and leads thousands of Sacred Extremity Sect disciples against the enemy’s main force. 382 387

The Profound Spirit Sect subsequently springs a trap against the Sacred Extremity Sect’s Void Realm experts, aided by unknown Central Continent cultivators. Outnumbered by two Cave-Heaven Realm opponents and additional Void Realm experts, the sect faces near-annihilation. 391 392

Mu Xiangzi ultimately uses Life and Death Reincarnation to destroy the enemy’s Void Realm forces, including Ancestor Sikong, but dies in the process. The Profound Spirit Sect collapses, while the Sacred Extremity Sect becomes the acknowledged overlord of the Southern Heaven Domain. 401 402

Resurgence under Yang Qingyun

After the war, the sect attacks the weakened Profound Spirit Sect’s mountain stronghold for resources and intelligence concerning its Central Continent enemies. 405 408

The sect’s position remains precarious because its Reincarnation Sect identity has been exposed and powerful Eastern Continent forces regard it as an easy target. 414 456

When three Cave-Heaven Realm experts and eight Void Realm martial artists attack the mountain gate, Yang Qingyun kills the eight Void Realm attackers with a single saber strike, draws the Cave-Heaven experts away from the sect, and eventually kills them all. This establishes the Sacred Extremity Sect as the genuine number one sect of the Southern Heaven Domain. 580 582 590

External wars and stability

The Sacred Extremity Sect is later conscripted into the Eastern Continent Martial Arts Alliance’s war effort against the Wind Thunder Pavilion. Its personnel and resources are deployed despite the sect’s limited high-level defenses. 577

Yang Qingyun’s strength becomes the sect’s primary deterrent. After he demonstrates power sufficient to defeat late Cave-Heaven Realm opponents, no hostile Cave-Heaven cultivator in the Southern Heaven Domain is considered capable of matching him, granting the sect a period of stability. 662

Destruction, dispersal, and rebuilding

Lu Chengde of the Heavenly Capital Sect destroys Moon Half City and the Sacred Extremity Sect’s gate with a single palm strike. The attack devastates the sect and destroys its ancestral hall, though a Supreme Realm Venerable intervenes to save surviving disciples. 833 843

To prevent themselves from becoming a weakness for Yang Qingyun, the sect’s leadership orders a complete dispersal. Disciples abandon their identities, sever contact, and hide throughout the Eastern Continent until the sect can safely return. 843 844

After Yang Qingyun reaches the Dao Integration Realm, the sect’s Ancestors return to the Southern Heaven Domain and rebuild the Sacred Extremity Sect. Its reconstruction attracts congratulatory visits from major regional powers. 943

Trivia

  • The sect was once viewed by martial artists of the Seven Nations as a mythical, forbidden power surpassing the seven states. 56
  • Yang Qingyun originally intended to abandon the sect before its foretold destruction, but gradually developed a strong sense of loyalty and responsibility toward it. 380 716
  • The Sacred Extremity Sect has only produced two known Cave-Heaven Realm cultivators during its thousand-year existence. 551
