While the Wizard Civilization army took a brief pause outside the subspace to reorganize, Saine privately called Arthur over.
Looking at the burly man with his hair hanging loose, Saine sighed and asked, "Do you know why I chose to advance on the Black Bat Civilization first, instead of taking the route back to the Wonderful Plane battlefield?"
Arthur replied in a muffled voice, "I don't."
Saine glanced at him and said, "Through this, I hope you can understand that the rule of survival in the Wizard Alliance is not to put loyalty first. More often than not, interests come above all else."
Saine's words made Arthur frown slightly, and a trace of headache showed on his face.
Matters involving exchanges of interests, political maneuvering, judging the situation, and the like were all things Arthur was bad at. On the contrary, he had once strongly resisted and rejected such things.
Thinking too much simply was not in Arthur's nature. This fellow preferred to be straightforward and do whatever felt good.
Compared with weighing gains and losses, Arthur was more inclined to follow his first instinct and live with swift gratitude and vengeance.
That way of doing things let him live freely and comfortably, but it could also inadvertently place him in danger.
Ohm's usurpation of the throne was the clearest example.
And once Arthur joined the Wizard Alliance in the future—mingling within its circles, finding powerful backers, seeking benefits for the planar civilization behind him, and so on—he would have to study and ponder these matters even more.
No one would shield him unconditionally forever. Saine would not either.
