Changes within the fragment

Mechanical observations of Heavenly Wing Demon Lord continued, while Wall-E had already compiled several new sets of records on the Bright Yellow Fragment on another Laboratory Table.

Saine returned to the containment device and pulled one of its light screens closer.

The aura of death clinging to the fragment's surface had diminished somewhat since it was first delivered.

That decrease was unsurprising. Removed from its original environment and repeatedly isolated by a Mechanical Seal, the external power would naturally dissipate over time.

What truly drew Saine's attention were several changes within the fragment that had never faded.

Some of its bright yellow rule patterns actually responded in kind to fluctuations in the nearby death energy.

This was not a simple devouring reaction.

"Bring over an unused sample of the same material," Saine said.

Wall-E quickly placed another properly preserved sample on the Laboratory Table.

After their sizes were adjusted, the two pieces of material were placed in identical mechanical devices. Saine introduced equal amounts of death energy to both sides while observing the internal changes.

The unused piece reacted more violently at first.

Bright yellow radiance rapidly spread outward, attempting to draw all the surrounding energy inside. Before long, however, conflicts arose at several points constrained by the seal, throwing the previously steady aura of death into turmoil.

The fragment Great Black Heaven had sent behaved differently.

It also absorbed the surrounding power, but several areas bearing traces of prior use reacted noticeably more slowly.

A small amount of converted energy flowed back out through one damaged section, forming an exceedingly fine Death Ripple outside.

Saine immediately saved a record of this change.

Then he adjusted the external energy to repeat the process.

After several consecutive rounds, the damaged section continued to produce similar reactions. Only when all the death
