Stanley Prison, inside a cell.
During the evening rest period, Ou Man Kwai was still trying to build rapport with Yau Kong Ngau.
He genuinely thought highly of Yau Kong Ngau.
Especially after learning that Yau Kong Ngau and the others had once been an entire squad of elite Serious Crime Unit officers, only to collectively end up convicted of manslaughter and locked away in Stanley Prison.
Their release dates were also not far off from his own. Once they got out, they would definitely make formidable allies.
As they chatted, Yau Kong Ngau suddenly looked up at Song Ren on the upper bunk. "Brother Ren, how much time do you have left?"
"Just over three months, I think." Song Ren searched through the relevant memories.
Yau Kong Ngau said, "Then you'll be getting out before us."
Fierce Ghost turned and asked, "A Ren, what are you planning to do after you get out?"
Song Ren said, "I haven't thought about it. I'll take it one step at a time."
This world's mission was to punish those who had harmed "me."
Based on the original movie's plot, the main targets should have been Wong Po and Zhong Yi Xin.
Chan Kwok Chung and the Western District Serious Crime Unit under his command had also been mentioned in the mission.
That was probably because they had essentially coerced A Ren into going undercover back then.
On top of that, when they recruited him, Chan Kwok Chung had solemnly promised that he would not let anything happen to his own man.
A Ren had believed him, and it had gotten him killed...
That was why he bore such deep resentment toward Chan Kwok Chung and the entire Western District Serious Crime Unit.
If he followed the original plot, Song Ren would need to infiltrate Wong Po's side and wait patiently for an opportunity.
But Song Ren clearly had no interest in that.
On one hand, he truly was not familiar with undercover tactics, and he would inevitably give himself away somewhere along the way.
On the other hand, in his view, punishment did not necessarily mean throwing someone in prison.
There were many ways to go about it...
After all, the targets were gang bosses, and vicious, hardened criminals at that. Whatever he did would count as justice, wouldn't it?
"A Ren? A Ren?"
Fierce Ghost's voice pulled the absent-minded Song Ren back.
Song Ren turned toward the bunk opposite him. "Brother Ghost, what is it?"
That "Brother Ghost" made Fierce Ghost's breathing hitch. Why did the title sound so pleasing today?
He could not help coughing, concealing the faint excitement stirring inside him. "I called you several times. What were you thinking about?"
Song Ren said, "Oh, nothing. Just thinking about some things for the future."
Fierce Ghost was slightly agitated, though he kept it well under control. "Seriously, A Ren, are you interested in following me?"
"The brothers and I can join forces and make something big of ourselves once we get out."
Song Ren smiled at that. "Let's wait until I make it safely out of Stanley Prison first."
Fierce Ghost froze, as though a basin of cold water had been dumped over his fervent excitement.
That was right. A Ren's situation was no longer merely bad. Whether he could even leave Stanley Prison in one piece was a question.
The moment he thought of Zhong Yi Xin and the Number Gang in the cellblock, Fierce Ghost began to hesitate again.
Those two gangs held considerable influence outside as well. Trying to recruit A Ren meant offending both of them.
At this stage, Fierce Ghost did not have that kind of confidence or nerve.
Yau Kong Ngau, on the other hand, lay on his bunk in thought. He did not exchange much small talk, merely saying, "Brother Ren, if anything happens in here, remember to call for me."
You were the first person in prison to step in and help me. I, Yau Kong Ngau, will remember this favor.
Because blood had been spilled during the bathhouse incident, prison guards had been patrolling the cellblock far more frequently these past few days, with noticeably more manpower as well.
That had made the atmosphere in the cellblock much more harmonious.
Though the occasional troublemaker still stirred up trouble, the guards quickly suppressed it.
Fat Dog and his group had been especially well-behaved these past few days. Whenever they saw Song Ren, they went out of their way to avoid him.
Song Ren had almost begun to wonder whether Zhong Yi Xin or the Number Gang had forgotten about him, or simply did not care at all.
This harmony lasted until Song Ren's eighth day in Stanley Prison.
During the prison's scheduled recreation time, he basked in the sun on the yard for a while before getting up to use the restroom.
But the instant Song Ren turned into the restroom, a shadow fell over his head.
His brow tightened, and just as he was about to step back and dodge, an inmate behind him gave him a hard shove.
He staggered, and the dark shadow had already covered his upper body.
It was a dark brown burlap sack tied with thick rope. His vision instantly plunged into darkness, and his hands were briefly restrained by the sack.
The next instant, he took a heavy blow to the head.
Song Ren staggered into the restroom wall.
Then a barrage of savage blows rained down with dull thuds.
The merciless strikes sent searing pain racing through his nerves.
The intense pain jolted Song Ren awake from the brief daze caused by the blow to his forehead.
I've been set up!!!
His expression instantly turned cold. The pain coursing through his body had already torn apart his composure.
The Kui Ox Mark on his back grew scorching hot in an instant.
His arms, trapped inside the burlap sack, suddenly bent hard.
His fingers pressed together, his shoulder blades thrust sharply backward, and he exerted force through his shoulders and elbows at once.
His clawed fingertips dug into a gap in the coarse sack, and in the most direct, brutal, savage manner, he tore the sack covering him cleanly in two.
The moment the sack split open, another blow struck the side of his face.
Song Ren's head snapped to the side. His gums bled, and he ran his tongue over them before spitting a mouthful of bloody saliva aside.
Once his vision returned, he finally saw the situation clearly.
There were eight people in the restroom, each holding a solid wooden table leg. The torn burlap sack lay on the floor.
Figures could vaguely be seen at the doorway. There were probably more people keeping watch outside.
Five of the eight looked very familiar. They were Fat Dog and the other four from the same cell.
Of the remaining three, one had been part of Hua Gu's group, while he did not recognize the other two.
This was clearly a long-planned ambush.
And judging by how thoroughly prepared they were, even the patrolling guards outside had likely been bribed.
The scene in the restroom paused briefly.
No one had expected Song Ren to tear apart a thick burlap sack with his bare hands. The sight had truly startled them.
Song Ren drew a sharp breath. Caught off guard, he had taken more than a dozen blows in rapid succession.
His arms, waist, right leg, back, and the left side of his face.
Almost every part of his body throbbed with pain. Most of those places would probably swell up.
Among all those injuries, the first blow to his forehead had been the hardest, and its pain was also the clearest.
He wiped it with the back of his hand. The flash of vivid red filled his eyes with icy coldness.
Blood trickled from his forehead, sliding past the corner of his eye along his cold brows as his gaze swept over everyone present.
At that moment, the emotion in Song Ren's eyes utterly crushed the calm he had always displayed.
Fuck you all, you pieces of trash!
