In the story, this former elite police squad led by Yau Kong Ngau really did exactly that after getting out of prison—and their revenge was absolutely insane.
In other words, among the villains in these three movies, each one acted more deranged than the last.
Although Yau Kong Ngau was also a villain, Song Ren would not directly judge the man before him based on the movie's story.
Just as he would not deliberately target A Hu either.
He did not consider himself a saint, but he would not deny that he was a good person.
His bottom line was somewhat higher than Yau Kong Ngau's after his complete descent into darkness, but it was also slightly lower than that of the protagonist, Cheung Chung Bong, in Raging Fire Case.
Between these two characters, one righteous and one villainous,
Yau Kong Ngau believed that feelings outweighed the law. That was why, to save someone and for the sake of his brothers, he had beaten the suspect Coca-Cola to death.
Cheung Chung Bong, on the other hand, believed in procedural justice. Everything had to follow the law.
Anyone who broke the law had to be punished.
That was why, during the trial, after an agonizing struggle, he chose to stand on the side of the law.
He bowed his head and admitted that he had personally witnessed his fellow police officers committing a crime.
In the end, because his superior shirked responsibility, Fok Siu Tong was cold and ungrateful, and Cheung Chung Bong insisted on procedural justice,
Yau Kong Ngau's entire squad was imprisoned in Stanley, except for one member who could not accept the result and jumped to his death.
"Ngau, sit down first."
Song Ren unconsciously tapped his fingers against the table, then suddenly looked up and asked, "A Lok, what happened between you and that Fok Siu Tong?"
A Lok explained, "A tycoon like Fok Siu Tong is bound to have some involvement with gray-market assets or large sums of money that are inconvenient to liquidate directly."
"There were seven of us in total, including me, helping Fok Siu Tong handle those matters."
"A while ago, I don't know what came over him, but he suddenly decided to discard us after we'd served our purpose."
"He directly cut away more than half of the benefits he had promised us, and his attitude toward us became extremely hostile."
Lai Pei Leung said blankly, "You elite professionals don't even know to sign a contract?"
A Lok smiled bitterly. "How could we possibly sign a contract for something like this?"
"Besides, even if we had signed one, we couldn't exactly take this matter to court. Wouldn't that just be putting shackles on ourselves?"
"What's more, we agreed to work for him because of his identity as the owner of Fok's Bank, as well as the fact that we'd worked together several times before."
Lai Pei Leung wanted to ask more, but Song Ren interrupted him. "Let A Lok finish first."
A Lok continued, "He set us up, so naturally, we weren't going to let it go."
"We each had some connections in our respective fields. Although they were nowhere near comparable to Fok's Bank, we also knew some of its inside information from the work we'd done for him."
"So we decided to join forces and teach him a painful lesson. We set up a trap to swindle a large sum from him, then escape immediately."
"But Fok Siu Tong wasn't an easy man to deal with. Besides, something went wrong on our end, and the other side noticed in advance. In the end, we couldn't get away."
Bald Rong asked, "How much did you swindle from him?"
A Lok smiled and held up one finger.
Bald Rong swallowed. "One million?"
A Lok said, "Think bigger."
Lai Pei Leung asked, "Could it be ten million?"
A Lok shook his head and said calmly, "One hundred million—and in US dollars."
"Unfortunately, we couldn't transfer it all out. We only managed to move one-tenth."
Despite his casual tone, everyone present still drew a sharp breath.
Even one-tenth was worth tens of millions.
And it was in US dollars. Just thinking about it was terrifying.
These gang members had spent their days living on the edge of knives. They had seen money before, but never this much.
If A Lok and the others had really succeeded, even a behemoth like Fok's Bank would have suffered crippling damage.
After all, it was one hundred million in liquid funds. Even a bank couldn't withstand that kind of loss.
Song Ren said, "So, it seems highly likely that they tracked you down here to keep causing trouble for you."
A Lok's expression was terrible, his face shifting between gloom and uncertainty.
Song Ren did not say whether he would help him. He merely patted A Lok on the shoulder before leaving first.
Yau Kong Ngau, however, said solemnly, "A Lok, call if anything happens. Don't worry. Brother Ren won't just stand by and watch either."
A Lok nodded, but his face remained troubled.
It was far too easy for something to go wrong in prison, especially in Stanley.
Quite a few death-row inmates were locked up here. Those men were all reckless hard cases who did not fear death.
Even if Song Ren could protect him for a while, what would happen after Song Ren was released? What would he do then?
He was serving a life sentence!
At the thought of this, A Lok felt that his future was utterly hopeless. He muttered under his breath, "Leave people a way out, and you can meet again someday. Fok Siu Tong, you bastard!"
Over the next few days, A Lok's situation gradually became more troublesome.
They shared a cell, and even though Song Ren and Yau Kong Ngau could protect him, they could not possibly guard him every moment.
They were not personal bodyguards, and they could not go that far for him.
The injuries on A Lok's body gradually increased.
He was even sent to the infirmary several times. Then, on the sixth day,
A Lok finally could not take it anymore. After returning from the infirmary, he immediately found Song Ren. "Brother Ren."
Song Ren waited for him to continue.
A Lok was silent for a moment before speaking. "I have key evidence that Fok Siu Tong was involved in gray-market industries and tax evasion, as well as core documents concerning internal problems at Fok's Bank."
"I secretly kept them as insurance when I was working for him back then."
"As long as these documents are used properly, we can definitely extort a large sum of money from Fok Siu Tong."
Song Ren looked up at him. This kid really had been hiding something.
A Lok said awkwardly, "Ahem, Brother Ren, if it were you, I think you'd understand me, right?"
"This is my trump card. If I gave it to someone else, I'm afraid I'd never get out of this prison."
Song Ren asked, "Then why are you telling me now?"
A Lok smiled bitterly. "If I don't say anything, I'm afraid I'll die here. Although you and Brother Ngau have been looking out for me, those bastards are impossible to guard against."
Song Ren asked, "What do you want to do, then?"
A Lok shook his head, then said seriously, "I don't know either. Brother Ren, I'll listen to you. I'll follow you."
Song Ren did not answer directly. Instead, he nodded and said, "All right. I understand."
He had his own considerations as well.
After getting out of prison, he would have to deal with Wong Po of Zhong Yi Xin and handle Inspector Chan Kwok Chung.
He also did not want to participate directly in the undercover operation within the gang. That meant he had to build his own businesses and recruit a group of trustworthy people.
So Song Ren had been considering his path after prison. A Lok's situation had given him a small inspiration.
Perhaps he could do something with Fok Siu Tong.
