Time returns to the present. The glorious and mighty Night Elf Empire, centered around the Well of Eternity, ceaselessly expanded its borders in every direction.
This continent, cradled by the Endless Sea, was called Kalimdor by the Night Elves. According to records bestowed by the God of Magic, Sarodar, this world was named Azeroth, meaning "Land of Starlight" in the language of the gods.
As the only race to master the boundless power of Arcane energy, the Night Elves were immensely proud and called themselves the Central Race.
Yet this was no mere boast from the Night Elves; their empire was truly magnificent and resplendent.
Compared to the crude and wild Trolls, or the half-beast races descended from the Wild Demigods, the Dragon Aspects naturally favored the Night Elves—an elegant, articulate race wielding immense power.
The Night Elves and the Dragon Aspects had always enjoyed a harmonious relationship. The inherently proud dragons only interacted and communicated with the Night Elves, treating all other mortal races with indifference.
As for the gods worshipped by the Night Elves—the God of Magic, Sarodar, and the Moon Goddess, Elune—the Dragon Aspects firmly believed them to be two Titans of the Pantheon who had long since left this world. They deeply envied the few Chosen Ones among the Highborne who had the honor of directly communing with the gods. The dragons repeatedly asked the Highborne to act as intermediaries, hoping to chat with the great Titans themselves. But without exception, they received no response. It seemed the creator Sarodar had no interest in the dragon lineage, leaving the dragons in great lament.
Thus, the Night Elves were seen by the dragons as the favored children of the gods, which was a major reason why the dragons only wished to interact with the elves.
The proud Night Elves continued to expand their glorious empire, only to find the Trolls blocking their path.
At this time, the Trolls were under the rule of the Gurubashi Empire. Numerous Troll clans were united under the empire's banner, and their civilization was equally brilliant.
The Gurubashi Clan governed the various clans, while the Witch Doctors of the Zandalari clan held a position similar to the Highborne elite—the high-end combat power of the royal family, the ruling class.
And then, war began.
The Night Elves' war emissaries, with contempt and pride, issued a declaration of war to the Gurubashi Clan in the name of the Light of Lights.
In the elves' eyes, the Troll Empire was nothing but an empty, massive framework, inherently frail.
The Gurubashi Empire erupted in fury and immediately launched an offensive against these brightly clad, fragile long-ears.
But once the battle began, the Trolls discovered that these seemingly weak, shiny long-ears were nothing like they had imagined.
Their armies were empowered by Arcane energy. Soldiers rode swift and ferocious Night Sabers, charging at the Trolls like lightning.
Behind the elven lines, Glaive Throwers, amplified by Arcane magic, boasted range and accuracy far surpassing the Trolls' bows and spears—and they could fire in volleys.
Each fleeting shadow was a razor-sharp Four-bladed Moonblade, spinning rapidly into the Troll ranks, instantly tearing through limbs and flesh.
The Priestesses of the Moon, responsible for ranged attacks, wore light leather armor and gripped longbows blessed by Moonlight Energy, firing arrows with homing capabilities that rendered shields useless.
But the most terrifying were the Highborne mages. Whenever their contingent appeared, the first thing to emerge was a massive banner flowing with purple Arcane energy, embroidered with the Eye of Truth, like the gaze of death itself.
With the endless support of the Well of Eternity, these mages never worried about mana depletion, unleashing large-scale area spells without restraint, slaughtering Troll soldiers by the hundreds.
Strictly speaking, the Highborne's reckless behavior bordered on magical abuse. But here, the benefits of connections and familiarity became apparent: the Blue Dragons monitoring the ley lines simply turned a blind eye, as if nothing had happened.
Perhaps the dragons also wanted the elves to win and dominate the continent.
The Gurubashi Empire's army crumbled, collapsed, and finally disintegrated completely.
The Troll Witch Doctors were no match for the Highborne mages with their infinite magical cheat codes, and the regular troops couldn't stand against the magically enhanced Night Elf forces. The Trolls soon tasted the bitterness of a thousand-mile rout.
Vast swaths of land fell. After suffering heavy losses, the various Troll clans scattered, fleeing into the remote, desolate mountains at the continent's edges.
Three months into the war, the once-glorious Gurubashi Empire, which had previously defeated the Aqir, was completely shattered and unable to fight on.
Just as the glorious Troll Empire fell, the Mogu Empire in Pandaria also began to close its borders, as if some major internal upheaval had occurred.
According to scout reports, it seemed the Mogu Emperor had died.
That Mogu Emperor, named Lei Shen, after successfully meeting a Lesser Titan Keeper named Ra-den in their internal region, had for some unknown reason led a force to the Tol'vir's Oasis of Uldum, seemingly searching for a Titan facility called the Hall of Origin. Then came a violent energy explosion, the shockwaves of which could be felt even in distant Eldorei.
Afterward, Uldum turned from an oasis into a barren desert. Lei Shen returned to Pandaria with his remaining troops, and now news of his death had arrived.
After sealing Lei Shen's body in a tomb in the Kun-Lai Summit, the Mogu Empire initially planned to send troops to support the Gurubashi Troll Empire. But after the Zandalari clan's leader, Zul'Gurub, was killed by the elves, the Zandalari clan scattered. Upon hearing this news, the Mogu Empire immediately withdrew their reinforcements and completely sealed off Pandaria, allowing no entry or exit.
The Night Elves had no intention of attacking Pandaria either. In their view, it was also a region of harsh, desolate mountains with little comfortable living potential.
Moreover, according to records from the War of the Ancients, the Father of Gods, Aman'Thul, after killing the Old God Y'Shaarj, burned the Old God's body completely, leaving only an essence called the "Heart of Y'Shaarj." This was taken to Pandaria by a Lesser Titan Keeper, who built an underground palace for its permanent sealing and guarding.
So, that wretched place—whoever wanted to go could go; we weren't going.
The expansion war continued. The Night Elves' sphere of influence successfully spread across the entire Kalimdor Continent, and they built cities of various sizes in every region with beautiful scenery.
The great Queen Azshara, the Light of Lights, enfeoffed over a dozen loyal lords (also called princes) to manage the various regions of the continent for her. Thus, the Night Elves formed a powerful feudal empire.
Among them, Lord Ravencrest of Black Rook Hold governed the most powerful territory, with overall comprehensive strength ranking first. This utterly loyal general dutifully managed the vast region of Val'sharah for his beloved queen, and his capital city, Black Rook Hold, flourished rapidly.
Because it was closest to the forest where the Forest Demi-god Cenarius dwelled, and also nearest to an entrance to the Emerald Dream, Black Rook Hold gradually became a gathering place for Druids. The Priestesses of the Moon also built a large Temple of the Moon there, second only to the one in the capital, Eldorei.
At this moment, the Night Elf Empire reached its glorious peak. The radiance of the Well of Eternity and the Light of Lights, Azshara, shone upon every corner of the continent.
But with the peak always comes disaster and decline.
This time was no exception.
