Prophet Velen was ambushed by the Orthodox Horde while traveling to the Alliance vanguard fortress. He was ultimately assassinated, and the remaining attackers had already fled to the Shadowmoon Clan's Fortress of Anguish in the southwest.

The news hit like a massive depth charge, leaving the Draenei too stunned to react for half a day, their minds utterly blank before an uproar and chaos erupted.

A dying Ogri'la Guard soldier, covered in blood and severely wounded, appeared on a small hill not far outside Ampori Village. He was discovered by patrolling thunder elephant cavalry and brought back to the village for treatment.

The first thing the guard soldier did after waking was try to sit up. Tears streamed down his face as he grieved in agony, looking so miserable that anyone who heard would be heartbroken and anyone who saw would weep. Even Deathwing would have fallen silent at the sight—his acting was explosive.

As the soldier rasped out in a pained, hoarse voice that they had been attacked by the Orthodox Horde and that Prophet Velen had been gravely wounded, the troops stationed in Ampori Village immediately rushed to the site of the attack and notified Archbishop of the Holy Light Yrel's Lightforged Judgement Army at once.

But they were still too late. Their beloved and deeply respected Prophet Velen was already dead, having fought the orc attackers until his final moment. How tragic, how heroic.

The entire race was plunged into grief. Even the Lightforged Judgement Army, which had competed with Velen for power and profit, deeply respected the old prophet. They kept public and private matters separate; calling Velen the Draenei's spiritual pillar would not have been wrong.

And now, all evidence pointed to those orcs. They could not run from it, nor could they deny it.
