Background / History
The Celestials and Homo sapiens originated from the same ancestors but evolved along separate branches. Early Celestials possessed stronger physiques, larger bodies, and superior bones and muscles; one could fight five or six ancient humans at once. Their physical advantage led to prolonged conflicts over territory and food. 280
Early humans eventually hunted the Celestials in large numbers, nearly driving them to extinction. A group of Celestials then prayed before an unnatural statue resembling a giant eye surrounded by chaotic organic forms. The statue granted them Authorities, immortality, and the power to destroy their pursuers. Qi and other supernatural phenomena seemingly entered the world from that point onward. 280
Having received this power, many Celestials retaliated against Homo sapiens, inflicting slaughter and torture on a vast scale. This era became humanity's dark age. However, some Celestials had already integrated into human tribes before the transformation; these Celestials and their mixed-blood descendants later aided humanity against their own race. 281
The blessing transformed the Celestials into followers of the Supreme Demon. Their bodies and souls ceased to belong fully to their native world, and their continued existence became tied to the power contained within the statue. 332 333
Over tens of thousands of years, the Celestials struggled with the World Consciousness for control of the World Core and the planet's Source Power. Their plan was to use accumulated Source Power to please the Supreme Demon and merge the World Core with reality. 340 354
Biology and Appearance
Celestials are generally humanoid and can appear almost indistinguishable from humans while dormant. Their structure is nevertheless fundamentally different from that of Homo sapiens. 228 240 271
- They are typically taller, more physically imposing, and unusually attractive by human standards. 271 280
- Awakened Celestials may bear a diamond-shaped crystal embedded in the forehead; observed crystals include red variants. 273 325
- A sleeping specimen could not be identified by Chen Sheng's Eye of Truth and displayed no obvious abnormal aura before awakening. 228 229
- Their physical and genetic structure differs so greatly from humanity's that Venerable Elder's artificial Celestial bodies were unstable without Qi Knot Stone-derived nutrient fluid. 271
Hierarchy
| Rank | Origin | Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| First Generation Celestial Beings | The Celestials who directly received the statue's blessing tens of thousands of years ago. | The strongest Celestials; their bodies and souls were directly transformed, and they can influence or restrain lower-ranked Celestials. 333 |
| Second Generation Celestial Beings | Pure-blooded Celestials transformed indirectly when the First Generation received the blessing. | Far weaker than the First Generation but still vastly stronger than later descendants; Chi is a known example. 333 |
| Third Generation Celestial Beings | Descendants produced by Celestials who had mixed with Homo sapiens. | Their power is several times weaker than that of pure-blooded Celestials; they may gain power through the Supreme Demon's devouring force or transformation by a First Generation Celestial. 333 |
| Modern descendants | Later descendants with heavily diluted Celestial bloodlines. | Not considered true Celestials; their inherited power is faint and may manifest as Celestial Being Cells and Authorities. 333 |
Abilities & Traits
Authorities
Celestial powers are commonly called Authorities, but they do not originate from heaven and earth in the same way as human martial artists' Authorities. Their abilities derive from the Supreme Demon's power contained in the statue, producing more varied manifestations and a higher ceiling than ordinary human Authority users. 240 332 355
- Celestials have demonstrated elemental attacks involving lightning, fire, frost, wind, and other phenomena. 280 355
- A Celestial possessing Heart Power deprived Chen Sheng of his senses one by one while using a temporary human-made vessel. 274
- Wing's “Life and Death” power spread autonomously and absorbed life force to restore the vitality of his possessed body. 337
- First Generation Celestials can directly affect lower-ranked members of their race. 333
Resurrection
Celestials were long believed to be immortal because they can return after death. Their resurrection is not unlimited: their power comes from the statue's finite reserve, and First- and Second-Generation Celestials share a limited number of revivals. 59 332
- Their bodies and souls have returned to an unknown existence beyond the world. 332
- A Celestial occupying Venerable Elder's artificial body reassembled its flesh after the vessel was destroyed. 274
- The Celestial Being King was later resurrected from a pool of highly concentrated Supreme Demon power after his defeat in the World Core. 361
- Once the statue's stored power is exhausted, Celestials can no longer revive. 332
Physical Superiority
Before receiving supernatural power, Celestials already surpassed ancient humans physically. Their later transformation elevated this advantage further. 280
- Qi is described as essential to Celestial awakening, rather than a power they must laboriously cultivate. 123
- A newly awakened Celestial could kill a Qi Sense User who had trained for more than a decade. 11
- Their dormant bodies may remain sealed or asleep for over ten thousand years while awaiting sufficient energy. 273
Celestial Being Cells
Celestial Being Cells are remnants of Celestial bloodline power found in certain human descendants. They can strengthen a bearer and enable unusual Authorities, but they also consume normal cells and destabilize the human body. 181
- The cells are responsible for hereditary illnesses suffered by families such as Shen Ziming's. 149 181
- Greater power accelerates the bearer's deterioration and death. 181
- Modern descendants commonly regard their cells as part of their identity as Celestial descendants. 252
- Diluted descendants are not classified as true Celestials by the race's own hierarchy. 333
Society and Attitudes
Many Celestials view Homo sapiens as inferior beings and retain an intense hatred rooted in humanity's ancient persecution of their race. One awakened Celestial referred to humans as “disgusting” and regarded the creation of an artificial Celestial body as an offense against a god. 59 274
Their hostility is not universal. Some Second Generation Celestials, including Chi and Qi Han, had lived alongside human tribes before the blessing and considered Celestials and Homo sapiens part of the same broader humanity. These Celestials aided humans and were consequently considered traitors by many of their own kind. 281 351
The First Generation became emotionally detached after tens of thousands of years of existence, seldom interacting with one another despite their shared goal. 338
Relationships
- Homo sapiens — Ancient rivals and frequent targets of extermination; some Celestials and mixed-blood descendants instead formed communities with humans and aided their resistance. 281 325
- Supreme Demon — Source of the Celestials' transformed existence and powers; the race serves its larger effort to harvest Source Power from worlds. 338 354
- World Consciousness — Long-term adversary that resisted the Celestials' attempt to seize the planet's Source Power and merge the World Core with reality. 340 354
- Celestial Being King — King of the Celestials and leader of the World Core's remaining Celestial forces. 338 354
- Ji — A First Generation Celestial and the Celestial Being National Teacher who guides and protects lower-ranked Celestials such as Wing. 337 355
- Chi — A cooperative Second Generation Celestial who revealed the limits of Celestial resurrection and their connection to the Supreme Demon. 332 351
Story Role / Major Arcs
Sealed Lands and Celestial Remains
Celestials are initially treated as an ancient, near-immortal threat connected to the Tide Rising Era. Shen Ziming identifies their two known traits as apparent immortality and innate hostility toward humanity. 59
Chen Sheng later encounters dormant Celestial bodies in Sleeping Lands, including a specimen embedded in a Flesh Cave and another hidden beneath the sea. Their presence creates oppressive pressure even before full awakening. 228 229 273
Venerable Elder's Artificial Celestial Body
Venerable Elder attempts to create a Celestial body from Celestial Being Cells, Qi Knot Stone-derived nutrient fluid, technology, and Heart Power Authority. His unstable imitation can revive from ashes, but it is not a genuine Celestial. 271 273
A genuine Heart Power Celestial briefly takes control of Venerable Elder's artificial vessel, attacks Chen Sheng, and strips away his senses. 274
Global Awakening Crisis
As Celestial Sleeping Lands become active worldwide, Third Generation Celestials begin taking over Second Generation bodies before the expected awakening date. Humanity prepares shelters, international alliances, and research operations in anticipation of a full Celestial assault. 321 341
Chen Sheng defeats multiple awakened Celestials, while Chi reveals the race's hierarchy, limited resurrection reserve, and connection to the statue. 332 333
World Core War
The Celestial Being King gathers hundreds of Celestials in the World Core to merge it with reality. Chen Sheng enters the World Core before the merger can be completed and defeats the assembled Celestials, forcing the King to confront him personally. 354 355
Aftermath and Apocalypse Realm
Following the World Core conflict, the Celestial Being King is resurrected through Supreme Demon power and brought to the Apocalypse Realm, an outpost managing more than a thousand universes. There, he becomes a Follower squad captain and pursues greater power through Law Fragments and missions. 361 362 368 369
