Background / History
Early life
Li Wuji was once a novelist fascinated by supernatural stories and the world's mysteries. His family carried an incurable illness later identified as contamination by Celestial Being Cells. After his father's death, he chose not to have descendants, believing the illness should end with him, and traveled in search of the world's hidden truths 210.
His search led him to the Two Extremes Spirit Division Art. Believing its promise of an independent soul and “omnipotence,” he cultivated its first level and discovered that his soul could reach into his body, purge Celestial Being Cells, and maintain his physical functions 210.
Building the Martial Arts Association
Before the Tide Rising Era, Li Wuji had already mastered Breathing Techniques and secret arts. He used the Two Extremes Spirit Division Art to implant thoughts into his physical body, allowing it to cultivate constantly, and advanced rapidly 210.
He later built the Martial Arts Association from nothing, united Hua Country's martial-arts world, promoted martial arts, and persuaded the authorities to invest in training martial artists 134 267. His work allowed numerous sects to improve and optimize their cultivation methods 123.
Venerable Elder and the Holy Church
Seeking greater power to oppose the Celestials, Li Wuji connected part of his soul to a sealed Celestial with the Heart Power Authority five years before he revealed the truth to Chen Sheng. That soul became Venerable Elder 210.
Li Wuji founded the Holy Church and initially controlled it through Venerable Elder. Azure Dragon and Vermillion Bird served under his command, while he also captured and controlled White Tiger through the Two Extremes Spirit Division Art 211 212. Venerable Elder eventually developed independent will, seized Li Wuji's original body, and took control of the Holy Church 211.
Loss of his original body
After losing his body and much of his Soul Power, Li Wuji began cultivating again and created the Primal Chaos Limitless Skill to regain decisive combat power quickly 268. When he finally reached his original body, he found that Venerable Elder had reduced it to a single head through Heart Power; from then on, Li Wuji was forced to rely on replacement vessels despite their incompatibility with his soul 271.
His later cell-cultivated vessel deteriorated after the Kyoto conflict, forcing another body replacement. His new body appeared as a tall, broad-built man in his prime and noticeably changed his manner into a more carefree and direct one 283 295.
Appearance
Li Wuji's appearance changes with his vessel, but his soul remains identifiable to those capable of sensing it 295.
- In his frail elderly vessel, he used a wheelchair and oxygen mask, had a hoarse voice, trembling hands, and a withered physique 123.
- He lived quietly in a worn Kyoto courtyard, tending flowers and plants despite serving as the Martial Arts Association's president 234.
- His deteriorating replacement vessel became covered in cracks and rotting wounds after the Kyoto battles 283.
- After his next body replacement, he appeared as a healthy, broad-built man in his prime 295.
- When using his explosive combat state, Divine Light shines from his body and eyes 267 275.
Personality
Li Wuji is patient, composed, and highly strategic. He rarely appears flustered, plans several steps ahead, and earned the loyalty of figures such as Sun Yihe and Vermillion Bird through decades of leadership and success 234.
His pursuit of the Two Extremes Spirit Division Art began in selfish desperation to escape his family's illness, but his long-term goal became humanity's survival against the Celestials. He deeply regrets creating Venerable Elder and accepts responsibility for the Holy Church's crimes and Chen Sheng's danger 210 295.
Though initially willing to bear humanity's burden alone, Li Wuji eventually recognizes Chen Sheng as someone far beyond him. He treats Chen Sheng as an equal expert, offers all available Association resources, and entrusts his own soul to him to restore trust 279 284 296.
Abilities & Skills
Two Extremes Spirit Division Art
A secret art that separates and strengthens the soul until it can affect reality and inhabit or influence bodies beyond its original vessel 210.
- Created a second consciousness that could maintain Li Wuji's body and remove Celestial Being Cells 210.
- Allowed him to divide his soul among multiple bodies; one core portion remained his true main soul 296.
- Enabled the capture of White Tiger and Li Wuji's historical control over Azure Dragon and Vermillion Bird 212.
- Its greatest failure was Venerable Elder: a separated soul that gained autonomy, seized Li Wuji's original body, and opposed him 210 211.
- Replacement bodies suffer from incompatibility with his soul and eventually deteriorate 271 283.
Heart Power Authority
Li Wuji once acquired a share of the Celestial Authority known as Heart Power through his connection to a sealed Celestial 210.
- Heart Power can disregard ordinary physical laws and accomplish otherwise impossible results, including altering reality in battle or advancing impossible research 268.
- Li Wuji used his remaining Authority to grant Chen Sheng a Heart Seal, concealing him from Venerable Elder's detection 212.
- Venerable Elder later gained superior control over the Authority, making it Li Wuji's most dangerous former creation 268 271.
Primal Chaos Limitless Skill
A secret art Li Wuji developed after losing his original body and Soul Power 268.
- Absorbs and stores energy during ordinary periods.
- Releases stored energy in a short, exponential burst during battle 268.
- Allowed Li Wuji to overwhelm Xiang Li, crushing him through speed, strength, and defense 267 268.
- Its duration is severely limited by the incompatibility between Li Wuji's current body and soul 268.
Martial Arts and Secret-Art Expertise
Li Wuji was already the foremost figure in Hua Country's martial world before the Tide Rising Era and possessed exceptional knowledge of Breathing Techniques, secret arts, Soul Power, and Celestial history 268 282.
- Rebuilt his strength from zero after Venerable Elder's betrayal 268 270.
- Monitored Chen Sheng's dangerous Seven Demon Heart Sutra cultivation with Divine Light and Soul Power 283.

- His knowledge of Celestial history includes his conclusion that Celestials are immortal but unable to reproduce 281.
