Starlight Tower.
Lake returned at seven that evening. After turning on the lights at home and pouring himself a drink, he walked onto the balcony. Looking at the scene outside, blanketed in thick white snow, he couldn't help letting the corners of his mouth curl upward.
New York really was the best.
In the study.
The moment Lake entered, he bent down and firmly caught the grenade that had been pulled from its safety pin and was ready to explode. He put the pin back in and toyed with the sweet potato produced by Stark Industries.
It was a defensive measure.
If anyone dared enter the study while Lake was away, they would be treated to this sweet potato, whose explosive power was no weaker than that of a small rocket.
The next day.
After resting for nearly a month, Lake returned to the NYPD on time. After receiving half an hour of law-enforcement instruction in Montgomery's office, he successfully reclaimed his badge.
Major Crimes Division Three.
Lake toyed with his badge. The assignment from George's division had finally ended, so he could return to being single and figure out how to find a few black guys to rob at the airport.
But...
Lake had just turned into his division's office area when he blinked and stared silently at the familiar face sitting at the extra desk in Division Three.
Joe looked up with a smile and greeted him. "Hi."
"Hi my ass!"
Lake rolled his eyes, walked to his desk, and said to Joe, "Why are you still here?"
Wasn't she supposed to report to George's Division One?
Why was she still here with him?
Joe shrugged. "You remember that you were suspended, right?"
Lake nodded. "I know, but I've been reinstated. You can go to Division One now.
