The archbishop was not the point.
The angel was.
Lake had just come downstairs. The moment Karen saw him, she dragged him straight to the bar. As it happened, the bar was also Lake's destination.
Lake lifted Little Cotton-padded Jacket onto a high stool. Then, while Little Cotton-padded Jacket mixed him a cocktail, he looked at Karen and struck first: "What's going on?"
Karen swallowed the question she had just been about to ask. Then, looking at Lake's expression, she glared at him and asked in a low voice, "You'd better come clean. Is this a surprise for me?"
Lake blinked.
The next second.
Lake realized what Karen meant and immediately shook his head. "If you hadn't said anything, I would never have done this. I listen to you more than Betty does."
That was what I thought.
Karen thought this to herself, then asked in confusion, "Then what's the deal with this angel who's coming later?"
Lake shrugged. "I don't know what happened either."
Karen then told Lake the whole story.
