History

Childhood and illness

Li Cheng was born into the Li family as Li Wei's younger brother. Their father, peacekeeper Li Xinghai, died during an Abyssal Monster attack; their mother died within a month of his death. Li Cheng was left dependent on Li Wei while suffering from congenital Abyss erosion syndrome, also called black blood disease, which required costly monthly medicine. At age ten, he was so frail that he resembled a six- or seven-year-old child. 1 6

He and Li Wei lived in a dilapidated attic apartment in Lingquan City. Even while severely ill, Li Cheng displayed unusual composure and perceptiveness. He immediately suspected that Li Wei's sudden physical transformation meant she was some reincarnated Immortal Emperor, and later saw through her plan to manipulate Cheng Hao into funding his treatment. 2 3 5

Li Wei's decision to seek power, resources, and eventually battlefield experience was largely motivated by the need to save him. Liang Qiushi arranged treatment through a Master, and Li Cheng's black blood markings soon faded. By their reunion, his complexion, eyes, and overall condition had visibly improved, though his rehabilitation was expected to continue for some time. 11 12 94

New identity and separation

When Liang Qiushi arranged for Li Wei to assume the identity of Jiang Xue, the Li siblings were officially recorded as dead. Li Cheng was to retain his name under a newly arranged identity in the Imperial Capital. 13

During their reunion, Li Cheng retained his sarcastic humor, teasing Li Wei about the white lotus mark on her forehead and offering unsolicited advice based on the web novels he had been reading. Despite his jokes, he was distressed by her departures and worried about how long they would be separated. 94 95

Li Wei's resurrection

After Li Wei's death, Li Cheng joined Taiyi in reconstructing her body from a lotus. He provided a preserved strand of her hair for the process and accepted that the new body could not replicate her former cultivation or talent, stating that her return alone was enough. 347

When Li Wei remained unconscious after being restored, Li Cheng abandoned his usual mature facade. He clung to her bedside, cried, and resolved to use the authority associated with his Uncle-Master status to save her. With Ksitigarbha's dream bubble, he entered her dreamscape despite the risk of losing himself within it. 348 349

Ancient identity

Li Cheng struggles with being treated as an ancient authority rather than as himself. He openly resents being called “Master” or “Uncle-Master,” insisting that he is Li Cheng rather than Lingbao or “Tongtian Old Master.” 348 352

He later explains that his memories are fragmented. According to him, the ancient being connected to him was affected by the “Return to One,” during which countless alternate selves across timelines converged. The influence of other selves known as Sect Master Tongtian gave him excessive humanity and bias, preceding a catastrophic battle among Immortals, Gods, and Eternals. 357

The ancient will within Li Cheng eventually acknowledges that it is Tongtian and Lingbao's Other Self, but also that it is independent, having been severed from Lingbao's karma. Li Cheng rejects the idea that this revelation must overwrite the individual's identity. 387

Appearance

Li Cheng initially appears exceptionally underdeveloped for his age: thin-necked, pale, and marked by dark blue-black veins caused by his illness. 1
