Josh woke up again. He had no idea how many times he had woken up over the past few hours. Even he was a little surprised; he had thought he was definitely dead, yet here he was, still able to spring back to his feet.
Rubbing his head, Josh felt like it was about to explode. Countless pieces of information had appeared in his mind for no apparent reason, as though someone had force-fed them into him.
After sitting on the ground in a daze for over ten minutes, Josh slowly recovered. At last, he understood what he had gone through—or rather, he had finally worked out what he believed had happened.
The place Josh was in was called the Valoran Continent. It was a shitty name, but Josh remembered it vividly. After all, this had been one of his favorite games in the past! Under another name, it was called League of Legends!
Josh had never dreamed that opening a Void Gate would bring him to Icathia, where he would inherit the Void's legacy!
That was right. Those silver Magic elements were Void Power. Last night, because of his arrival and his active absorption of magical energy, the Void Magic elements had gone berserk and filed into his body as though lining up.
Void Magic elements originally possessed no attributes. Because they corresponded to the Void, they accepted no other elements. That was why the magical power in Josh's body had surpassed that of so-called geniuses for so many years, yet had never possessed any real power.
Furthermore, Void Magic elements could only be used to cast corresponding Void Magic. That meant unless Josh could create Void Magic himself in the future, he would spend his entire life as a tragic figure with plenty of magical power but, because of his Magic elements, only capable of using parlor tricks.
"Void Magic, and it even has the ability to travel between planes?"
Thinking of that, Josh's lips twitched. This seemed different from the Void Magic in his memories. The Void Mages he remembered did not seem nearly this powerful. The strongest ability appeared to be Kassadin's Void Walking, but even that could not traverse planes.
"Wait, Void Summoning? Could it be this?"
Josh quickly recalled something. In his memories, Malzahar had a skill called Void Summoning, but in the game, didn't it summon something like a gate of magical energy and silence enemies?
"Could the game and reality simply work differently?"
Josh could not make sense of it. The spell was already in his mind, and even more absurdly, it was not the only spell there. There was Void Swarm, Baleful Phantasm, the legendary Grasp of the Underworld, and Void Warp.
However, these spells were quite different from how they had appeared in the game from his memories. Well, aside from Void Swarm, which seemed more or less the same, none of the others matched! And that was not even the biggest issue. Why did he also have Void Orb, Void Blade, and Void Walking?
Josh was completely dumbfounded. If he had all those, then why had Energy Pulse disappeared? Well, it was not as if Josh was dissatisfied. He could not have been more satisfied! These spells—these skills—were shamelessly powerful!
Putting everything else aside, Void Warp was practically a bug. In the game, it had been Malzahar's passive, but now it had changed completely. It was a Magic Shield constructed from Void Magic, and it was not a one-use thing either. Its duration was determined entirely by one's own magical power. In other words, the more magical power one had, the longer the Void Warp Magic Shield would last.
Yes, duration. For some reason, this passive that Malzahar had been born with had become a spell that required magical power to maintain, but Josh felt it was far stronger than that previous one-use Magic Shield.
The other spells seemed to have changed quite a bit as well. Void Blade, for example, was not about drawing magical power from the Void at all. Instead, it condensed Void Magic directly into a dagger that could ignore a target's defenses, allowing Void Magic to seep in and destroy the enemy from within. It was downright deadly!
Void Orb was much like when Josh had first started playing League of Legends: a spell that could silence people. The description stated that it would send Void Magic into the caster's hostile target, severing the target's connection to the power within their body and potentially causing fatal effects.
"Alright, impressive. Peak Kassadin?"
Baleful Phantasm, meanwhile, had become something like a curse, except it was far nastier than any ordinary curse. Josh even felt that this was the truly terrifying spell. Baleful Phantasm condensed Void Magic and could combine with any form of attack, attaching itself to the caster's enemy or entering their body. When its damage erupted was completely under the caster's control.
"So that means this thing can attach itself to a Void Orb, or be driven into an enemy's body with Void Blade. Then whether it steadily drains their health or bursts all at once is entirely up to me?"
Watching the Magic slowly gathering in his hand, Josh swallowed. This was what it meant to become rich overnight. Josh did not even know how to describe the feeling. Twenty-four hours ago, he had been a worthless failure with magical power but no Magic elements to work with it, completely incapable of harming anyone. Now, he had gained several ridiculously powerful spells all at once. One could imagine just how complicated his feelings were.
However, before he could celebrate for long, the Baleful Phantasm in his hand slowly began to disperse.
"Looks like these spells still need proficiency—or perhaps higher levels—to become truly powerful?"
Watching the Magic in his hand quickly vanish into the sky, Josh nodded, finding it perfectly reasonable. Though it had not allowed him to ascend to heaven in a single step, he was still extremely happy, because he finally knew what he needed to do.
As for the other two spells that had once been abbreviated as "R," Josh could not see how to train them or even their spell descriptions. They were merely there, beyond his reach. But after thinking about it, Josh understood. His level—or rather, his strength—was still too low. He could not come into contact with these two super spells yet. Naturally, that only made him look forward to seeing how powerful they truly were.
"So does this mean I've become a combination of Kassadin and Malzahar? But why do I remember those two Void Mages being mortal enemies? Right, before I got transported here, I'd pulled an all-nighter at an internet cafe. I was using Malzahar against Kassadin in lane and beat the crap out of him. Was that the reason?"
Josh truly could not think of a better explanation. It was just too absurd. But he soon stopped dwelling on it. So what if they had been mortal enemies? Having both of their Magic was enough for Josh. He did not care about anything else. Shaking his head, Josh got to his feet and stretched hard, but he quickly froze.
"Um... where is this?"
Josh looked around in confusion. This was no longer the place where he had been trapped last night. Although the environment was still awful, at least there were no corpses and skeletons all over the ground. The surrounding trees no longer carried such a deathly air either. They were not exactly full of life, but they were at least more comfortable to be around, weren't they?
"Did I get transported again?"
Josh was full of question marks. Honestly, this kind of uncontrolled transportation was unbearable. But he quickly rejected the idea. When he once again tried absorbing the surrounding Magic, he discovered that Void elements were still abundant here. It was not like Constantinople, his own territory, where meditating for an entire night was not as effective as meditating here for an hour.
"Looks like I was sent to the outskirts of Icathia. What a pity. When I played League of Legends, I never paid much attention to its lore. If I'd learned more back then, I wouldn't be wandering around like a lost idiot now."
With a helpless sigh, Josh could only accept reality. He truly did not know the way. When he played League of Legends, he only knew that one map and was completely unfamiliar with everything else. Shaking his head, he looked at the sun in the sky, then at the lushness of the surrounding trees, and quickly chose a path to follow.
He still remembered the desolation inside Icathia last night. Though Josh had inherited Void Magic, he had no desire to go back in there. That place was simply too terrifying, far beyond what he could accept.
"And what if I actually run into Kassadin or Malzahar? How am I supposed to explain myself? I probably wouldn't even get a chance to explain before those two Mages killed me, right? Of course, if I ran into Cho'Gath, Kog'Maw, or Kha'Zix, I'd probably just get eaten."
Josh shook his head and immediately headed toward the outskirts. In truth, he was worrying too much. Although these Void beings were all hidden within Icathia, most of them hid in the Void itself. Unless Josh's luck was exceptionally bad, he would not encounter them. But he soon remembered another female member of the Void family—not Rek'Sai, of course.
Kaisa, the Daughter of the Void. To survive among predators, she had become one of them. With her powerful will, she struggled to coexist with the skin formed from Void creatures that covered her body. Josh felt that if he encountered any of the previous ones, he probably would have no way to survive. But if he met this one, he might still have a chance.
Of course, that was only if. The reality was that if Josh really encountered Kai'Sa, she would probably kill this little Mage who had just inherited the legacy of a Void Mage. Although Josh did not bear the characteristics or transformations of a Void creature, the pure Void Magic flowing through him practically announced to everyone that he was a creature from the Void.
Josh soon entered a dense forest while walking and letting his thoughts run wild. Though he appeared absentminded, he remained quite alert. This was one advantage of being a Mage. Josh had read many Mages' notes, and one of the most important rules was never to relax one's vigilance, because unlike warriors, Mages did not have powerful bodies or armor to protect themselves.
"Rustle..."
Hearing movement in the bushes, Josh immediately stopped and focused. He gathered the magical power within his body. Though he had only just come into contact with these new spells and could not use them skillfully, he could still force them to their maximum output, even if doing so might leave him exhausted.
Then Josh saw a figure emerge from the bushes. He was tall and imposing, clad in armor with a massive sword on his back. Josh blanked out for a moment before immediately reacting.
"What the fuck? Garen?"
