The short man saw how strangely his companion was acting. He hurriedly set down the ribbons in his hands and stepped forward, his face full of concern as he asked,
"Hey, what's wrong? Why do you look so pale? Are you feeling sick? Should we go to the hospital?"
The tall man took several deep breaths, trying to calm his fear. He waved a hand, his voice carrying a barely noticeable tremor.
"I... I'm fine. Maybe my blood sugar's a little low. I got dizzy for a moment. I'll be okay after some rest."
Though he claimed to be fine, anyone could see that something was wrong.
The terror etched into his very bones couldn't be explained by a little dizziness from low blood sugar.
Su Yue was confused too. She frowned as she looked at the tall man's pale face and the cold sweat on his forehead, feeling a little worried.
She turned and hurried over to the water dispenser in the corner. Taking a clean paper cup, she filled it with warm water, then quickly brought it to the tall man and held it out, speaking gently.
"Sir, have some water and take a moment to recover. I have some candy here, too. Would you like one?"
When the tall man saw Su Yue approaching, his pupils contracted sharply. His body instinctively took another step backward, as if she were some raging flood or ferocious beast. The terror on his face grew even more pronounced.
He hurriedly forced himself to calm down and quickly composed himself. Then he extended both hands, accepting the hot water with such exaggerated deference that he seemed to handle it with utmost care. His voice was a little hoarse.
"Th-thank you. I don't need any candy. A little water will be enough."
