An Unexpected Discovery

Outside the cave, heavy clouds hung low, lightning flashed and thunder roared, and torrential rain hammered down from the sky.

At the entrance of the cave sat a blazing bonfire, its orange-red flames swaying gently in the slight breeze. The shadows cast on the ground by the fire danced right along with it.

The interior of the cave was pitch black, with dark shadows that seemed to swallow everything whole. Yet, faint sounds emanated from deep within, reaching the ears of Lin Li and Wu Qingfang as they sat before the bonfire at the cave entrance.

"Did you hear some strange noise?" Wu Qingfang looked into the distant pitch-black shadows, a puzzled expression on her pretty face, and then she asked Lin Li beside her.

"I heard it, but the sound is extremely faint. If you don't listen closely, you might even think it was just your own imagination," Lin Li replied.

"What do you think is making that commotion?" Wu Qingfang asked.

Lin Li turned his head to look at Wu Qingfang. Noticing that Lin Li was looking at her, Wu Qingfang also withdrew her gaze from the distance and looked back at him.

"How would I know! But I reckon this commotion is either the sound of air flowing through the cave, or some fierce beast hiding deep inside," Lin Li guessed.

"Um..." After hearing what Lin Li said, Wu Qingfang thought for a moment and offered a suggestion, "Shall we go inside the cave to investigate?"

Lin Li originally wanted to refuse Wu Qingfang's suggestion.
