"Splash, splash, splash..."
Late at night, when all was quiet, a strong wind suddenly swept across the river. The constant sound of waves soaked everything near the wharf.
A large materials warehouse stood one kilometer from the wharf, with security guards stationed at the entrance.
"Yawn~"
"I'm so sleepy!"
One security guard was drowsy and kept yawning. His colleague laughed and said, "That's what you get for not resting properly during the day."
The yawning guard said, "I wanted to rest properly during the day too, but one of my relatives was getting married, so I was called over to help."
His colleague said again, "So that's how it was! I thought you'd gone somewhere to have fun again."
The yawning guard raised a hand and rubbed his brow, speaking listlessly.
"I'm working the night shift this month. During the day, unless something especially important comes up, I'll stay home and get a proper rest. There's no way I'd run off somewhere else to have fun."
The two guards chatted casually, their alertness low.
The reason they were so relaxed and practically had no sense of vigilance was mainly that things were too peaceful under normal circumstances.
"Do you smell something?" The yawning guard wrinkled his nose.
"I do. It smells like jasmine." His colleague answered.
"There aren't any jasmine flowers around us. Where could the scent be coming from?" the yawning guard asked, puzzled.
Then he raised a hand and rubbed his nose. He took a deep breath, forcefully inhaling the fragrance drifting through the air as he tried to identify it more closely.
"My sense of smell is fine. It really is jasmine. As for why we can smell jasmine when there aren't any flowers around us, I have no idea either." His colleague shook his head.
