Zhang Guangmu said that because he knew that, before he revealed Chu Fan's whereabouts under interrogation, they probably would not kill him outright.
But the moment those words left his mouth, the viewers' White Balls began flashing wildly.
"Holy shit! This young man's subconscious... is invincible!"
"I think one of this year's Top 500 Classic Shots has already appeared—Do you want to die, or do you want to live? I want to die!"
"This acting showdown is making my scalp tingle. I've got goosebumps all over!"
"Someone who isn't even afraid of death is terrifying in their own right."
"Too bad I'm uneducated. One 'holy shit' is enough to conquer The World!"
"Oh My God! What's wrong with this guy? Are there really people in this world who aren't afraid of death?"
"He's just talking tough. Anyone can force themselves to sound stubborn! Let him take a beating, and he'll show his true colors immediately. Believe it or not!"
"That knee, punch, and elbow just now felt so familiar! That was the Imperial Body Forging Technique, right? I practiced that between classes when I attended school!"
"You were just dabbling. He's practiced it to the bone—it's become body instinct. Completely different!"
"Master declares that Zhang Guangmu is this show's god for now! Who agrees? Who objects?"
"Everyone, stand up!"
The comments from the silly viewers made Zhang Guangmu chuckle despite himself.
That mocking laugh left Boss Zhao completely thrown off.
Boss Zhao frowned deeply, glaring fiercely at Zhang Guangmu. "You think I don't dare kill you?"
Zhang Guangmu came back to himself and shook his head without answering, silently reflecting instead.
Acting Skill rated only 1 really was not enough.
If he raised it to 2 Points, his self-control would be stronger. Then he probably would not break character with laughter at a Crucial Moment, right?
"What a Tough Bone."
Boss Zhao knitted his brows and struck Zhang Guangmu in the neck with a Hand Blade, knocking him unconscious. He muttered, "Little Ghost, I hope you'll be as tough during your punishment later as you are now."
"Don't make me look down on you!"
When Zhang Guangmu opened his eyes again, he found himself in a dark, gloomy, damp, confined Prison Cell. His hands and feet were locked in Handcuffs and Ankle Cuffs, pinning him firmly in place and leaving him utterly unable to move.
All kinds of horrifying Torture Instruments lay before him on a table soaked in dark-red bloodstains.
Boss Zhao appeared before Zhang Guangmu, that familiar Big Bald Head still gleaming atop his shoulders.
His tone was heavy and his gaze resolute, leaving no doubt about his determination. "You now have two paths before you."
"The first is to tell us Chu Fan's whereabouts. We'll give you some food."
"The Second Path is for us to torture Chu Fan's whereabouts out of you, after which you'll die here miserably from pain and hunger."
Zhang Guangmu smiled and said weakly, "There are only two paths? I don't believe that. I want to try."
Boss Zhao touched the bulging vein on his forehead, suppressing his anger. "I've seen too many people like you, the kind who responds to force but not persuasion."
"Bring out the Torture Instruments!"
"Let's see how he keeps talking tough later!"
Then...
The inhumane torture began.
Some of the kinder viewers could barely bear to keep watching.
"Isn't the Director going a little too far? What if this leaves permanent aftereffects? Who's responsible?"
"He is. I specifically went to look at the script just now and found that this 'Backup Plot' had long been registered. In other words... this interrogation scene is both reasonable and legal."
"That's true. Otherwise, a role with face time like this, even if it only had one scene, would never have gone to a complete Newcomer like Zhang Guangmu."
"Speaking of which, the dozen or so young Actors participating in Endless Food Bag this time are simply unbearable to watch. There are far too many vile, despicable people among them. Their character in real life probably isn't much better either... Sigh! Morals are declining, and people's hearts are no longer what they used to be!"
"Easy for you to say while standing outside it. Throw you into the Apocalyptic Wasteland World and erase your real-world memories, and you'd be just like them!"
"True. After all, we're watching a show while they're struggling to survive. They just want to live. There's no need to stand on the Moral High Ground and harshly condemn them."
"Zhang Guangmu, hurry up and betray Chu Fan! You've Tried Your Best! We won't blame you!"
"Hey, hey! Stop forcing yourself! If you don't betray Chu Fan, the plot can't continue!"
"Pretend to faint! Why are you being so stupid?"
Zhang Guangmu, who was undergoing Severe Torture, was in so much pain that his entire body twisted, yet he still forced his eyes wide open in an attempt to stay conscious.
Master refuses to pretend to faint!
Master is going to hold on!
Master refuses to betray Chu Fan!
If I sell the protagonist's information to Boss Zhao, I won't have any part left to play!
If I follow the script, I get nothing out of it. Wouldn't I be suffering for nothing?
What was sunk cost?
The beatings I've taken in this show were sunk cost. I had to earn them back—and make a profit on top of that!
Though that was what he thought, Boss Zhao's subordinates were truly vicious, and their interrogation methods came in endless varieties.
They whipped him with a Barbed Whip, dripped Chili Oil into his eyes, pulled out his nails, and stabbed between his fingers...
At first, Zhang Guangmu tried to endure it by force and maintain his bright, heroic image. But after several rounds of torture, he gradually could not hold it together any longer. His screams went from restrained to unrestrained.
"Ahhhhhh!"
He screamed himself hoarse, utterly miserable.
If not for wanting to avoid leaving behind too much Black History, Zhang Guangmu felt that he would be crying by now.
Men did not shed tears easily—this was his final shred of stubbornness!
Fortunately, the viewers' comments helped distract him, temporarily increasing his tolerance for pain a little.
"Stop."
Boss Zhao raised a hand, and the people handling the interrogation immediately stopped.
The Big Bald Head stared at Zhang Guangmu. "Speak."
Zhang Guangmu panted heavily and nodded with effort. "Speak? Of course I'll speak."
After a while, he caught his breath and stared unblinkingly at Boss Zhao, sneering, "Just this?"
"Could someone really think they're good at interrogation?"
"This is all you've got?"
The two staff members responsible for torturing a confession looked embarrassed and immediately became Ashamed and Angry, wishing they could slaughter Zhang Guangmu's entire family with one knife.
Boss Zhao frowned deeply. "Continue. Watch your strength. You can cripple him, but don't kill him."
So the interrogation continued.
"Come! You think I'm afraid of you? If I, Zhang Guangmu, so much as furrow my brow, I'm no true man! Ow, holy shit, that hurts!"
"Behave yourself and confess!"
"I'll talk! I'll talk... Trash. You're the lowest-quality one in this group."
"Ahhhhhh!"
"Why put yourself through this? If you confessed earlier, you wouldn't have suffered so much."
"Is Bitter Gourd not tasty? You damned Sweet Faction member! Agh! You're persecuting people who disagree with you! You despicable, vile bastard!"
Boss Zhao could not help stepping forward himself. He shoved the two interrogators aside and crouched down.
He looked seriously at Zhang Guangmu. The solemn expression on his face gradually turned to pity, then that pity slowly faded, and a trace of barely perceptible admiration entered his voice. "You truly are a hero!"
Though Zhang Guangmu was somewhat amusing, Boss Zhao truly sensed a heroic spirit from him.
After pondering for a long time, Boss Zhao extended a large, callused hand toward Zhang Guangmu, his tone more serious than ever before. "Come be my son!"
Hahahaha!
All in one go!
Awesome!
It might be a niche genre, but I really like it!
When I watched King of Movies back then, I felt it was not satisfying enough. The Great Actor was even more regrettable, so I'd wanted to write about Subconscious Film for a long time.
