Background

Wang Shangqing was already a well-reviewed actor who had played two protagonists before his rivalry with Zhang Guangmu. However, despite his strong performances, he lacked the defining “god-tier moment” that Zhang achieved in Mysterious Assignment. His attempts to manipulate public opinion against Zhang—including scandals, self-smears, and meme campaigns—failed to overturn that gap in recognition. 98

He competed fiercely with Zhang Guangmu for a Seven Stars position, treating Zhang as an unworthy opponent because Zhang had not previously played a protagonist.
