Background
Lu Yan originally worked as an assistant in Steward Chu’s Spirit Talisman Shop. Chu had taken him from the mortal city under the guise of an “immortal destiny,” but Lu Yan understood that he had been selected for malicious purposes. In the Urban Version, his disappearance was interpreted as being recruited by a major company and leaving for Myanmar; Lu Yan kept the misunderstanding intact to remain inconspicuous 5.
After a version update stripped Steward Chu of his cultivation, Lu Yan confronted and killed him with prepared Rankless Spirit Talismans and his fists. He destroyed the body with a Spirit Fire Talisman, then claimed Chu’s Storage Bag, cultivation texts, spirit stones, talismans, jade sword, and a low-grade demonic Soul Banner 3 4.
He spent three days correcting the Red Lotus Karma Fire Sutra through comparisons with Buddhist and Daoist classics before beginning cultivation. The threat of the demonic cultivator behind Steward Chu drove his pursuit of strength and revenge 5 6.
Appearance
Lu Yan is consistently described as a handsome young man with an ethereal, detached bearing that becomes more pronounced as his cultivation rises.
- His body grew several centimeters after beginning cultivation, while his lean frame gained strength far beyond that of an ordinary person 6.
- His skin became smooth “like a baby’s,” and his cultivation produced a milky-white halo and an otherworldly aura 6.
- He is frequently seen in a green robe during his earlier cultivation period 72.
- At later stages, he wears dark or black robes and projects an imposing, immortal-like demeanor 178 224.
- His presence can suppress the Divine Sense of cultivators at the same realm, revealing the strength of his Divine Soul 210.
Personality
Lu Yan is calculating, adaptable, and highly conscious of unequal power dynamics. He prepares for version changes, exploits opportunities that others overlook, and prefers gaining leverage over taking avoidable risks. His decision to wait for Steward Chu’s cultivation loss, refusal to pursue Gongyang Xuanming’s father in Myanmar, and suspicion toward He Luyuan each reflect this caution 3 12 39.
He is ruthless toward threats and willing to kill opponents, seize their resources, or use fear to maintain authority. However, his pragmatism is not blind loyalty to violence: he avoids confrontations with Mara Realm warriors when repeated battles would put him at a disadvantage 37 44 186.
Lu Yan does value useful loyalty and reciprocal relationships. He aided Ji Xingyao’s recovery, helped He Dongsheng on multiple occasions, and gave the Warrior Main Soul a choice rather than treating it as disposable 138 212 220.
Abilities & Skills
Red Lotus Karma Fire Sutra
Lu Yan’s primary cultivation method is the corrected Red Lotus Karma Fire Sutra, which enables him to actively absorb spiritual energy and refine it into Mana.
- Its absorption efficiency surpasses that of Transcendent Zombies acting on instinct 22.
- He used Spirit Stones, spiritual pills, Moonlight Spiritual Energy, Great Sun Spiritual Energy, and high-density Cyber Version spirit energy to accelerate cultivation 6 24 72.
- The sutra’s original errors required correction before it could be safely cultivated 5.
Profound Yellow Merit Fire
Lu Yan possesses a rare Merit Divine Power manifested as Profound Yellow Merit Fire.
- It can suppress Fierce Ghosts, extinguish Red Lotus Karma Fire, and sever karmic connections 40 44 186.
- It is particularly effective against demonic soul arts, curses, and karma-based techniques 44.
- Its direct offensive effect is weaker against ordinary extraordinary beings, as demonstrated against a High-Level Mana User 95.
- Lu Yan’s immense accumulated merit allowed him to resist the malice of the Xianxia Heavenly Dao 222.
Soul Banner and Human Emperor Banner
Lu Yan’s Soul Banner evolved from a low-grade demonic artifact into the Hundred Soul Banner, later becoming the Human Emperor Banner.
- He refines souls into Vengeful Souls, Fierce Ghosts, Main Souls, Ghost Gods, Yin Soldiers, and Ghost Generals 20 40 198.
- The Hundred Soul Banner reached Top Grade Magic Tool quality after absorbing Blood Beard’s soul 28.
- He concealed its true scale; at Mid-Stage Qi Refining, he commanded eight hundred Fierce Ghosts rather than the expected two hundred 43.
- The Human Emperor Banner commands Hell’s armies and grants its forces merit-infused Human Emperor authority 205 245.
- By the Great Collapse Version, his forces included six thousand Foundation Establishment Yin Soldiers, six hundred peak Foundation Establishment Ghost Generals, and Ghost Gods capped at Late Golden Core 234.
Main Souls and Ghost Gods
Lu Yan strengthens the Soul Banner through specialized souls that command and protect his forces.
- Warrior Main Soul — His first Main Soul; specializes in close combat and possesses the Ghost Armor Art 20 43.
- Blood Beard — A powerful Main Soul created from the peak Qi Refining zombie Blood Beard; nearly reached Foundation Establishment after consuming Cheng Yu’s soul 28 46.
- Giant Spirit / Giant Spirit God — A hidden Main Soul capable of commanding large-scale ghost formations and the Nine Nether Yin Wind Array 43 169.
- Guardian God — Dedicated to Lu Yan’s protection; can block spells, Divine Powers, and soul curses within its computing capacity 169.

Four Symbols Gate
A technique modeled on characteristics of the Xuan Pin Gate and formed from earth, water, wind, and fire.
- Suppresses techniques belonging to the Four Symbols and causes backlash against their users 210.
- Overwhelmed multiple late- and peak-Foundation Establishment Azure Parasol Sect Direct Disciples simultaneously 210.
- Its essence approaches a Golden Core Divine Power despite Lu Yan using it at early Foundation Establishment 211.
- It cannot withstand the direct suppression of a peak Golden Core cultivator 210.
Supreme Divine Power Seed
A Supreme Dao Foundation reward that can elevate any Divine Power spell to the Heavenly Astral level.
- Allows even basic techniques to display Heavenly Astral Divine Power-level might 224.
- Enabled Lu Yan to replicate and empower techniques derived from Demon Version True Laws in the Xianxia Version 226.
- He used the Heavenly Dipper Golden Light Technique to seize and crush a Golden Core cultivator’s Magic Treasure flying sword 226.
- He employed Heavenly Dipper Yin Wind Curse and Yin Talisman Three Killings against Golden Core opponents 227.
True Laws and Great Dao Comprehension
Lu Yan has mastered an exceptional number of Great Dao True Laws.
- He occupied seventeen positions on the Heaven and Earth True Law Ranking, including sixteen newly appearing laws 167.
- The Xuan Pin Gate allowed him to suppress other True Intents and strip Foundation Establishment demons of their cultivation through the Three Kill True Intent 173.
- He comprehended the No Light Same Dust Method and Xuan Tong True Meaning to conceal his existence from pursuing demons 174.
- He later comprehended seventeen top-tier Great Daos and intercepted their True Intents 184.
Unchanging One
Lu Yan possesses the characteristic of the Unchanging One, expressed through the Version Update Interface.
- It allows him to remain unbound by the limitations of individual world versions 229.
- The interface is a form his subconscious uses to understand this characteristic rather than its true nature 268.
- His existence is identified as the “Only One in All Worlds,” making him a target for beings pursuing the state of The Only One in This World 229.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Soul Banner / Hundred Soul Banner / Human Emperor Banner — His core artifact and the foundation of Hell’s army 4 28 205.
- Jade Sword — A flying sword acquired from Steward Chu’s Storage Bag; Lu Yan later uses it while disguised as the Blood God 4 149.
- Storage Bags — Contain spirit stones, talismans, cultivation texts, pills, Spirit Marrow Ore, and other resources 4 46.
