Background / History
Counterfeit Cultivator of Azure Valley Market
He Dongsheng first operated as a rogue cultivator specializing in artificially aged counterfeit books and artifacts at Azure Valley Market. He attempted to sell Lu Yan a forged Heavenly Dao Treatise for ten Spirit Stones, using neighboring vendor He Luyuan as part of the staged sales pitch. 34 39
Rather than expose him, Lu Yan traded modern artificial-aging methods for the book and information. He Dongsheng was stunned by the techniques for aging paper and bronze, then admitted that the Heavenly Dao Treatise was a mortal-written mixture of profound-sounding and heretical nonsense. He also directed Lu Yan toward information on the karma-focused Red Lotus Demonic Sect. 34 35
Cyber Version
After the version update, He Dongsheng was arrested for selling fake chips that authorities mistook for prohibited knowledge and was sent toward the Paradise Computing Center. Lu Yan encountered him among escaped prisoners and rescued him. In gratitude, He Dongsheng gave Lu Yan a chip containing the Heavenly Dao Code, a portion of Spirit Energy Code tied to Zhao Huowang’s legacy. 93
He Dongsheng accompanied Lu Yan through the Lower City District, but lacked combat strength and nearly walked into a projected ambush. When a High-Level Mana User attacked, Lu Yan ordered him to flee; He Dongsheng complied because he knew he could not survive the battle’s aftermath. 94 95
Return to the Eastern Federation
After escaping Phoenix City, He Dongsheng returned to the Eastern Federation and encountered archaeologist Mu Chunqiu. He initially assisted Mu’s fieldwork to survive, but repeatedly escaped tomb mechanisms unharmed and found correct routes through dangerous ruins. Mu Chunqiu recognized his extraordinary fortune and accepted him as a disciple. 129 131
As Mu Chunqiu’s only disciple and successor of the Four Seasons Lineage, He Dongsheng gained considerable status despite his modest talent. His master’s standing caused even Golden Core cultivators and Nascent Soul True Lords to address him with respect. 219
Zhao Huowang’s Relics
He Dongsheng’s repeated links to Zhao Huowang’s legacies made him important to Lu Yan. He provided the Heavenly Dao Treatise in the Xianxia Version and the Heavenly Dao Code in the Cyber Version, while later claiming to have found Zhao Huowang’s relics. 96 185
During the Demon Version, He Dongsheng disappeared after renting a Luo City courtyard. He left Lu Yan a letter and bamboo slips concerning Zhao Huowang’s belongings, but Lu Yan unconsciously destroyed the slips after reacting violently to them. Attempts to locate He Dongsheng through Heavenly Secrets techniques failed. 184 185
Taiyi Sect Direct Disciple
He Dongsheng later appeared as a Foundation Establishment cultivator within the Taiyi Sect. Although he was not originally a participant, he was transported into the Direct Disciple trial; Lu Yan used his presence to prevent the trial’s early conclusion and secure him a Direct Disciple position. 227
He received a cultivation technique from Jiang Zhiwei, the First Direct Disciple, and took the thirty-sixth Direct Disciple seat. Lu Yan later suspected that He Dongsheng’s accidental entry into the trial was the result of karmic interference connected to Zhao Huowang. 229 230
Spirit Rhythm Assembly
In the Great Collapse Domain, He Dongsheng hosted the Spirit Rhythm Assembly as a Taiyi Sect Direct Disciple. His low cultivation and reputation made him an easy target: the Red Lotus Demonic Sect secretly afflicted him with the Karma Entanglement Divine Power, intending to discredit him publicly. 243
Lu Yan intervened, exposed the karma entanglement, and refused to let the Red Lotus Demonic Sect dismiss the incident as a misunderstanding. He Dongsheng initially wished to yield rather than drag Lu Yan into conflict, but Lu Yan argued that continued concessions would only invite further humiliation. 244
Personality
He Dongsheng is adaptable, opportunistic, and initially unscrupulous in business. His livelihood began with forged books, fake artifacts, and counterfeit chips, yet he quickly recognized Lu Yan’s superior knowledge and shifted from attempting a scam to building a useful connection. 34 93
Despite his dishonest trade, he is consistently grateful and loyal toward Lu Yan. He remembers Lu Yan’s repeated rescues across versions, advocates for him before Mu Chunqiu, and even offers practical alternatives when Lu Yan seeks a difficult Direct Disciple recommendation. 129 220 221
He is self-aware about his lack of fighting talent. He knows when to flee, worries that his low status will implicate Lu Yan, and privately admits that he relies heavily on his master, his Direct Disciple position, and his connection to Lu Yan. 95 223 244
He also has a casual, irreverent streak around Mu Chunqiu, joking that his master’s treasures will eventually become his inheritance. 131
