Duan Mu survived the Espada’s attack on the Yorozuya and took on a Central 46 appointment while rebuilding his strength. When Arrancar later invaded the Human World to capture him, he fought them off until Tōsen forced their withdrawal, then returned to Soul Society with Shuhei Hisagi.

• Duan Mu’s desperate attack failed to stop Aizen, but the arriving captains drove Aizen, Tōsen Kaname, and Ichimaru Gin to escape to Hueco Mundo, and Duan Mu fainted after Kuchiki Byakuya confirmed Rukia was safe.
• After recovering, Duan Mu accepted appointment as a Central 46 sage, returned to the Yorozuya, and offered to teach Ichigo Kurosaki Bankai.
• Aizen’s Espada attacked Soul Society seeking Duan Mu, who fought them alongside Ishida Sōgen and the Gotei 13 until Yamamoto drove them away and the Yorozuya was destroyed.
• Duan Mu rebuilt the Yorozuya, trained, and accepted a 9th Division support role in exchange for Zanjutsu instruction from Unohana Retsu as Arrancar appeared in the Human World.
• Duan Mu rescued Kuchiki Rukia from two Arrancar, then joined the fight against Halibel’s group after asking Urahara Kisuke for help.
• The Espada trapped Duan Mu in a barrier that suppressed his Spiritual Pressure, but Urahara broke it and Duan Mu resumed fighting Halibel and Ulquiorra.
• Duan Mu overwhelmed Halibel and Ulquiorra with Daichi Fanyong, but Tōsen Kaname used Bankai to cover the Arrancar’s withdrawal after their plan failed.
• Duan Mu returned to Soul Society with Shuhei Hisagi, while Urahara found Luppy’s corpse missing and Duan Mu suspected Kurotsuchi Mayuri had taken it.

Duan Mu trained under Unohana, fought Aizen, and lost his spiritual abilities before helping resolve Muramasa’s Zanpakuto rebellion and confronting his own runaway Zanpakuto. He found a possible lead to restoring his power, while Orihime was left in danger in Las Noches and Ichigo prepared to go after her.

• Duan Mu began Zanjutsu training with Unohana Retsu, helped wounded Soul Reapers, and encouraged Hinamori Momo to accept that Aizen’s betrayal did not erase her good memories of him.
• As the Zanpakuto rebellion spread through Seireitei, Duan Mu fought Aizen and was left unable to use his spiritual abilities after the Hogyoku began Aizen’s evolution.
• Duan Mu returned to Rukongai and mobilized his people, then allowed Muramasa to draw out his Zanpakuto, Kyokui, a colossal white fox.
• Duan Mu went to Karakura Town and helped defeat Muramasa’s forces, then transformed Kuchiki Kyōka into a Spiritual Void Crest to regain access to spiritual pressure.
• Duan Mu learned that his Zanpakuto had swallowed several women, tracked it to the Shiba Clan, and fought the boy Jūmei, who wielded its Bankai and analyzed his attacks.
• Duan Mu stopped himself from killing Jūmei, and the people it had swallowed were released as its world collapsed and the little white dog at its core disappeared.
• Duan Mu rebuilt Seireitei, remained unable to restore his spiritual pressure, and found a possible lead in his Zanpakuto while Hueco Mundo grew active.
• Duan Mu refused to stop Ichigo from going to Hueco Mundo for Orihime, while Loly and Menoly confronted her in Las Noches and Tier intervened.

Duan Mu restored his spirit body, helped Tier and the Arrancar defeat Barragan and revive their fallen comrades, then joined the battle against Aizen. After Aizen overwhelmed the defenders, Duan Mu raised his strength and faced him again.

• Duan Mu reconstructed his spirit body in District 38 while Tier protected Orihime Inoue and faced the invaders in Las Noches.
• Tier killed Nnoitra, and Picaro defeated Barragan after Duan Mu's recovery restored their Spiritual Void Crests.
• Duan Mu rescued Nelly, Roga, Grimmjow, and Ichigo Kurosaki from Szayelaporro's attack, reconstructed their Hollow Cores, and then killed Szayelaporro.
• Kurotsuchi Mayuri transported Duan Mu to the Human World, where he fought beside the Gotei 13 and Visored Army against Aizen and his allies.
• Tier, Nelly, and Roga joined the battle, and Tier and other Arrancar fought Aizen's forces as the battlefield split into clashes with the Espada.
• Aizen deceived Yamamoto and Shinji with Kyoka Suigetsu, while Wonderweiss absorbed Yamamoto's flames and Aizen turned the battle against the defenders.
• Tier and Nelly revealed evolved forms marked by Spiritual Void Crests, but Aizen struck down many fighters and Ichigo Kurosaki's attack failed.
• Duan Mu helped evacuate the wounded, gained experience from Soi Fon's favorability, increased his stamina and spiritual pressure, and challenged Aizen again.

Duan Mu defeated Aizen, helped rebuild Hueco Mundo, and then confronted the Wandenreich as Quincy forces attacked the Arrancar. He trapped Yhwach in a one-on-one domain, but Yhwach linked himself to the Quincies across the Wandenreich and the battle continued.

• Duan Mu broke through Aizen’s defenses and shattered the Hogyoku, activating Urahara Kisuke’s seal, then fell unconscious after the battle.
• The Central 46 sentenced Aizen to twenty thousand years in Mukken and, after Duan Mu intervened, sentenced Ichimaru Gin to ten thousand years in jail.
• Duan Mu went to Las Noches, organized its reconstruction, and modified twelve Arrancar’s Hollow Cores as an unseen being complained that his Spiritual Void Crest was disrupting its plans.
• Duan Mu observed Ginjo Kugo and Tsukishima, then helped impose new restrictions on Kurotsuchi Mayuri’s research before learning that Quincy forces were hunting Hollows.
• Duan Mu entered the Wandenreich, killed Berenike Gabriel, and began making the hidden realm manifest while Tier, Stark, and the other Arrancar fought the Sternritter in Hueco Mundo.
• Halibel flooded Las Noches with an ocean, Roga rescued poisoned Arrancar, and Yhwach used Auswählen to revive and strengthen the Sternritter.
• Duan Mu sealed Gerard’s Miracle and accelerated the Wandenreich’s collapse, but a blond young man disrupted the manifestation and Yhwach escaped with the Sternritter.
• Duan Mu returned to confront Yhwach in the Shadow Domain, isolated the combatants in mist, and cut Yhwach in half, but Yhwach healed and connected himself to the Quincies across the Wandenreich.
