Time quietly slipped through his fingers, and Bai Sheng had spent nearly twenty years with the Stellaron Hunters.
Pandora still contained only Aatrox's soul. Whenever Bai Sheng asked Acheron about it, Acheron always answered that the time had not yet come.
So Bai Sheng waited and waited. After five years, he said:
"The time has not yet come."
After ten years, he said:
"The time has not yet come."
After twenty years, he still said:
"The time has not yet come."
"No, how could you not find even one suitable candidate after all this time? Boss Acheron, I know you have your plans, but my Coming-of-age ceremony is almost here! You promised me I could go back and take revenge myself!"
Bai Sheng could no longer wait. Kasantiya's Coming-of-age ceremonies were generally held at fifty years old, marking a Kasantiya person's transition from childhood to maturity.
When Bai Sheng first joined them, Acheron had sought him out and promised to kill that dog emperor before his Coming-of-age ceremony.
But now, only one year remained until his Coming-of-age ceremony.
"Don't worry, White Ghost. I told you before—I will make it happen."
Acheron elegantly leaped onto the round table, his black tail swaying from side to side.
"But there's only one year left. Could you possibly find three souls Pandora can accept within that year?"
After subduing Aatrox last time, Pandora had rested for a full six months. At least, that was what Bai Sheng believed.
To kill that dog emperor, leaving aside his own formidable strength, Bai Sheng could not even handle the absurd number of Shadow Guards around him.
"Don't worry. When the time comes, someone will help you."
"Who?"
"I can't tell you that yet. Just rest assured."
With that, Acheron climbed onto the counter and lay down in his cat bed.
"Alright, little Bai Sheng. You've waited all these years; one more year won't make a difference, will it?"
Kafka comforted him from the side.
"Sigh, alright, alright. Also, don't use the Word Charm Technique on me. You might get hurt. A soul impact doesn't feel good."
Bai Sheng steadied himself. To him, the spirit puppet had granted him immense mental and physical strength. Word Charm Techniques like Kafka's, which specifically targeted the mind, were precisely countered by Bai Sheng. And if something went wrong, his automatic retaliation while he was unguarded could end up injuring Kafka.
"Good. It's good that you've come around. For Eternals like us, our lifespans are very long. There's no need to care too much about time."
"Mm. Thank you, Kafka. I understand."
After saying that, Bai Sheng turned and headed toward his room.
Watching Bai Sheng leave, Kafka asked:
"Who are his reinforcements?"
"The Anti-Matter Legion. A Lord of Annihilation."
Acheron answered lazily.
"Oh? Could you tell me which one?"
"Too many spoilers ruin a play's original meaning, Kafka."
With that, Acheron buried his head in his sleek, ink-black fur.
Kafka looked at Acheron, then at Bai Sheng's door. She thought for a long time, yet seemed to think of nothing at all. She gave a self-mocking smile before going to Firefly to collect her pressed coat.
Inside his room, Bai Sheng looked at the blood-red crystal on Pandora and said:
"Aatrox, how are your people doing?"
A voice full of exasperation came from the crystal:
"Don't even mention it! I'm furious! We're Darkin! That useless Rhaast is being suppressed by a human's will! He's actually become a weapon!"
As Aatrox spoke, he observed the human currently wielding Rhaast. Ever since Bai Sheng had not had many missions, Rhaast had wanted to visit his clansmen who had once been sealed away by 〔Diamond〕. Bai Sheng was not an unreasonable person, so he let Aatrox go.
Could he really bring all those clansmen back or something? (Bai Sheng scoffed.jpg)
It was a man, seemingly named Kayn. He looked utterly ordinary, yet he had somehow managed to suppress Rhaast.
"Rhaast! What are you doing?! Why are you letting a human wield you?!"
Aatrox questioned the enormous scythe housing Rhaast through telepathy.
"That voice... You're the leader? Aatrox?!"
Rhaast replied telepathically as well.
"Hmph! It's been centuries, yet you still haven't forgotten me, your leader. Tell me, how did a useless fool like you end up deadlocked with a human?"
Rhaast had finally found someone to complain to and transmitted:
"I have no idea why this brat's willpower is so strong. I could only corrupt one of his arms—the control of his body is still in his hands. He's been using me as a weapon for over a decade!"
Aatrox covered his face. Seriously, not a single one of his kin was worth a damn!
"Chief! Hurry and help me!"
Rhaast wailed, and Aatrox said, "This human won't do. Do you want to follow me again instead? There are better bodies available."
Aatrox planned to have Bai Sheng build a few puppet bodies for his kin.
More importantly, whether in terms of durability or energy reserves, these puppet bodies far surpassed his original one. If he were still in the Anti-Matter Legion, he would have dared to use this body to compete for the position of Lord of Annihilation! But now...
Forget it. The sooner he finished looking, the sooner he could return and have Bai Sheng build the bodies.
Helplessly, he glanced at the dozen or so weapons in the sack on his back and shook his head. Then he looked down at Kayn beneath the clouds.
Kayn had been killing enemies when he suddenly realized that everyone around him was dead, as if they had dropped dead without warning. The next second, Aatrox descended from the sky. His enormous blood-red flesh wings blotted out the heavens, and his scarlet eyes fixed upon Kayn.
It did not take much effort for Aatrox to toss the scythe housing Rhaast into the weapon-filled sack he carried with him.
"Why is every single one of my kin more useless than the last?!"
Aatrox was speechless. He could only rage impotently where he stood. It seemed that his once-brave and battle-hardened kin had all had their brains ruined from being trapped inside weapons for too long!
Some could not even win control of a body from a human. Some had possessed a pack of dogs. Some had possessed a gay couple. Worse still, one had possessed a rock! The only one who was slightly more promising had possessed a dragon—but it turned out to be a Dragon Egg! That alone would have been fine; it would still be formidable after hatching. But the damn thing was a dead egg! The kind that could only be eaten!
Aatrox had even snatched it from an auction house on one of the company's planets! Thinking about it now, he wanted nothing more than to throw all these useless kin of his into the Anti-Matter Legion to feed the Doomsday Beast!
After Bai Sheng learned about Aatrox's situation, he was genuinely happy for him. It had not been easy for the guy to find members of his kin.
At the same time, he felt a little regretful. Sister Pandora had said that there could only be one Darkin like Aatrox inside a Scythe Blade. In other words, he could not stuff Aatrox's kin into the Scythe Blade.
What a pity. Bai Sheng had been hoping that they could drink tea and play Jade Tile with Aatrox in the Scythe Blade whenever they had nothing to do.
