The farther down he went, the more shocked Bai Sheng became. Staring at the incalculable wealth filling the treasure vault, he cursed inwardly.
"That old bastard really has a lot of treasures."
He then quickened his pace and headed rapidly toward the lowest level.
There really were plenty of treasures here—curios, weapons, armor, gold, silver, and jewels. In the stairwell, Bai Sheng even spotted limited-edition cartridges produced by the Interastral Peace Corporation. These things had been discontinued several Amber Eras ago. Thinking it wouldn't hurt to take them, Bai Sheng quietly pocketed a few.
He could give them to Silver Wolf. She still liked old things like these.
Though he was underground, the spirit puppet's sensing ability could still be put to use. Pandora had previously been bound to Bai Sheng, so he could still sense Pandora's exact location.
Pushing open the heavy doors, he was greeted by a colossal laboratory large enough to hold a Doomsday Beast.
"This is..."
He couldn't say he was familiar with this place, only that it looked extremely familiar.
"I finally understand why that old bastard covered my eyes when he brought me here back then."
In an instant, a fluorescent green longsword appeared in Bai Sheng's hand. He had "borrowed" it from some model of Firefly armor up above. Having spent years on the battlefield, Bai Sheng knew how to use more than just a scythe. He understood the uses of many weapons, and this kind of longsword happened to be among them. Combined with the swordsmanship Blade had taught him before, he could wield it with ease.
Unlike Sam's twin blades, this lightsword was longer and broader, looking more like a weapon meant for the front line. Still, it was more than enough for self-defense at the moment.
"Tap. Tap. Tap."
Footsteps rang across the alloy floor as Bai Sheng swung the longsword behind him with one hand.
A burst of erratic electrical crackling sounded, and the sword struck a guard robot squarely in the head.
"What a pain!"
Looking at the dozen or so guard robots behind him, all armed with firearms, Bai Sheng couldn't help thinking of Silver Wolf again. All she needed was a flick of her fingers to leave these robots unable to move.
He had learned a little hacking himself, but with nothing on hand right now, he couldn't manage it.
So he could only use the most traditional method.
If he killed them all, no one would know he had come in!
With every swing, another machine fell. Before long, Bai Sheng had dealt with the batch of robots.
The dark gray tones all around him were thoroughly unappealing, and the maze of tangled pipes only made the place feel more oppressive.
As he went farther in, Bai Sheng kicked open a steel door and saw the most unforgettable sight of his life. Within one enormous glass cultivation tank after another were countless severed limbs, soaked in a yellow-green liquid.
There were not only severed limbs. Bai Sheng saw organs, biological specimens, and even babies!
Bai Sheng turned his head away, only to spot something in another glass tank—a shriveled blue-green beast claw still bound in chains.
"This is... a Buli Ren?"
They were a race renowned for warfare and bloodlust. By Xianzhou terms, they were called Abundance Pests.
Blessed by [Abundance], the Buli Ren possessed tremendous regenerative abilities. Back when Bai Sheng had encountered a lone Buli Ren squad on the battlefield, their frenzied fighting style after entering Moon Madness, along with their beast vessels wrapped entirely in flesh and tendons, had left a deep impression on him.
Without lingering, he continued onward. The deeper he went, the more horrifying the contents of the cultivation tanks became—Voidrangers of the Anti-Matter Legion, Buli Ren, Wing Builders, and limbs bearing golden ginkgo leaves. They even carried the aura of [Abundance]. Bai Sheng recognized them at once: an arm from a Xianzhou Person!
Bai Sheng suddenly remembered how, when he had captured the death-row prisoners and asked what had happened to the dog emperor and the others, that old bastard had always been evasive and brushed him off. Now it seemed that they had most likely all been transported here.
"Heh."
With a smile, Bai Sheng used his three-foot sword to shatter every cultivation tank. Yellow-green liquid spilled across the floor, looking both disgusting and horrifying.
"Since I'm here, I might as well make a bigger mess of this place."
Flames seemed to ignite in Bai Sheng's eyes as he cursed inwardly: Damn that old bastard...
The shrill alarm echoed throughout the laboratory, but Bai Sheng paid it no heed. Sword strike after sword strike, he shattered every cultivation tank in sight.
The wind kicked up by his sword aura scattered all the experimental reports on the tables.
Numerous guard robots emerged from the corners and attacked Bai Sheng, the intruder. Countless new-model energy guns on the ceiling also opened fire on him.
Gripping his longsword, Bai Sheng struck at a robot's vulnerable joints. As sparks crackled, the robot was completely unable to move.
Looking at the densely packed robots ahead, Bai Sheng rolled his eyes. With a charged slash, he sent them all flying to the ground. Before they could react, he grabbed them and hurled them toward the energy guns mounted on the ceiling.
Bang! Bang!
Without Bai Sheng lifting another finger, the robots became victims of the energy guns.
"Next, it's your turn."
Bai Sheng picked up a robot wreck and held it in front of himself as a shield, swiftly taking out the remaining energy guns.
"Kasantiya Law, Article Twenty: Anyone who conducts research involving human experimentation within Kasantiya, whether instigator or participant... shall be sentenced to death without exception."
Deep within the laboratory, the alarms outside barely drew the attention of the researchers in white lab coats. They had great confidence in the energy guns and guard robots they had bought from the company. They believed those machines would kill the intruder and turn this place into his grave.
"Supervisor, Pandora's combat data isn't sufficient. We've only extracted a small amount of usable data from the previous combat records. With only this much, we can't proceed with the next phase of the experiment," one researcher said.
"It doesn't matter. We'll study that thing later. Since we can't gather any data, put it aside for now. How is the research on the flesh tissue Duke brought last time?"
The supervisor wore glasses, his face devoid of any unnecessary expression as he carefully observed that mass of flesh.
"Supervisor, it has already..."
Before the researcher could finish speaking, half of the horizontally severed door came crashing straight toward them.
"Who goes there?!"
The supervisor pulled out an energy gun and aimed it at the doorway, where the boy's slender figure appeared.
The door had just grazed past his scalp before smashing through the large screen in the middle of the laboratory.
Seeing that all the experimental personnel were present, Bai Sheng smiled.
"Well, well! You're all here together!"
(PS: Okay, we won the revival match! (?????))
