"Indeed, you. White hair, golden eyes, reserved bearing, and a height of five chi and one-quarter. My Yin-Yang Fish would never mistake you."
The girl said this.
Bai Sheng was rather puzzled. The Ten Lords? This was called the Ten Lords Bureau, so the Ten Lords should be its highest leaders. But why had they personally issued an order for him, a newcomer to the Xianzhou, to become an Underworld Emissary?
"Um, do you know why?"
Bai Sheng asked.
The girl shook her head.
"I do not. The Ten Lords have always issued decrees, and we merely follow them. Besides, the Ten Lords said this matter was not compulsory. If you have no inclination toward it, you may refuse."
Bai Sheng thought for a moment. Little Huohuo had seemed to mention before that she worked at the Ten Lords Bureau, and her official position did not appear to be low.
With that in mind, Bai Sheng asked:
"Do you know Huohuo?"
"Huohuo is a judge of the Ten Lords Bureau. Though she is merely an apprentice, she will become a full judge in time. You know her?"
"Yeah, a friend of mine."
"Wait a moment. The Ten Lords have issued a new decree. Come with me to the Ten Lords Bureau first. I shall see that you are properly received."
After saying this, the girl turned around expressionlessly and strode away.
Bai Sheng stood where he was, somewhat confused. He turned and looked around, only to find that the two Cloud Knights who had escorted him had already run off. He did not know the way, either. The Ten Lords Bureau was where criminals were imprisoned and judged, and Bai Sheng was afraid he might accidentally wander into some cell.
"You're Bai Sheng, right?"
Someone poked him in the back of the shoulder, followed by a cool female voice.
Bai Sheng turned around and saw a girl with pale gray hair. She had heavy dark circles under her eyes, much like Huohuo, and was holding a very large calligraphy brush. Two feather ornaments adorned her head.
Judging by her clothes, she was from the Ten Lords Bureau as well, just like the girl who had left moments ago.
"That's me. Um, who are you?"
"Just call me Hanya. I still didn't manage to meet my elder sister."
Hanya's cool, aloof face showed a hint of regret when she said the words "elder sister."
"The elder sister you mentioned—was she the one with short brown hair, red eyes, and a bell hanging from a chain at her waist?"
"Yes! That's my elder sister. Just call her Xueyi. Given her personality, if no one asks first, she practically never introduces herself."
Hanya's eyes seemed to shine whenever she spoke of Xueyi.
"Then, Hanya, could you show me the way?"
Bai Sheng asked. There was no one else around, but standing there indefinitely did not feel quite right.
"Sorry. Let's go."
Once the topic of her "elder sister" ended, Hanya returned to her former cool, aloof demeanor.
Before long, Bai Sheng was sitting in the reception hall of the Ten Lords Bureau, looking at his phone.
Hanya still had work to finish and left first. Xueyi had just returned, and unfortunately, the sisters missed each other once again.
Xueyi came before Bai Sheng and said to him:
"The Ten Lords have decreed that if you agree to take the position, you may ignore any required duties. The Ten Lords Bureau will make no inquiries regarding your schedule."
"Is there a salary?"
"The highest possible package."
"Deal! Do I need to take some kind of strength test? I just heard that Underworld Emissaries have to fight."
Bai Sheng asked. He was fairly good at making friends, and he had just chatted with the two clerical workers here for a while, gaining a rough understanding of what an Underworld Emissary was. A judge's enforcer and employee. After hearing Xueyi say he would not have to work, Bai Sheng was genuinely tempted.
"No test is necessary. Your victory over the general's first disciple is already proof of your strength. If you are certain, I shall send a reply to the Ten Lords."
"I'm certain, I'm certain. I just asked my master, and he agreed."
Bai Sheng said this. He had not expected Jing Yuan to agree so quickly. The moment he sent the message, Jing Yuan replied the next second, even expressing his support.
Meanwhile, Jing Yuan was smiling wryly.
He had just been preparing to slack off and had even taken out his Jade Abacus, only to receive a joint call from the Ten Lords the very next moment.
"Jing Yuan, boy, we want that Bai Sheng."
An aged yet imposing voice rang out.
"Oh? Are the Ten Lords so interested in Jing's disciple?"
"Just joking. We merely want him to hold a sinecure at the Ten Lords Bureau. Your disciple is still your disciple. The Fifth Lord is simply hot-tempered. Don't worry, we aren't trying to take him from you."
A woman's voice came from the holographic projection.
"That may not be appropriate. Though Bai Sheng is Jing's disciple, compared with Jing's opinion, I believe the child's own choice should be what matters most."
Jing Yuan said this. He had just been thinking of asking Bai Sheng what he thought of the Ten Lords Bureau, and now those ten old fellows, all the way over at the Xulou Xianzhou, had come running as soon as they caught wind of it.
Why were people connected to the Stellaron Hunters all so strange?
Jing Yuan thought to himself.
As for Bai Sheng, after Xueyi explained a few matters requiring attention, she said goodbye to him and went to work.
The reception hall was empty. Bai Sheng was curious about why he had attracted attention as soon as he arrived at the Ten Lords Bureau. Whenever there was something he did not understand, asking Boss Acheron first was never wrong!
The magic cat knew everything!
He called Silver Wolf's phone.
"Beep... beep... Hello, it's Bai Sheng. What's up?"
"Has my script been updated? Could you help me find Acheron?"
"Your script? It's not time for you to appear yet. I'm playing a game, so ask Kafka. She's reading at this hour; just call her directly. My Aetherium Spirit is getting away. Bye-bye."
Silver Wolf hung up immediately. It seemed Bai Sheng had interrupted her game.
He found Kafka in the "Loving Family" group chat again and called her via an interstellar connection.
"It's Bai Sheng. What's wrong? You finally remembered to call us? Hmm? Acheron? He's in his room. What did you want to ask? I can relay it for you."
"About the Ten Lords Bureau here in the Xianzhou Luofu."
"What? The Ten Lords Bureau... I know about that. I'll explain.
Acheron gave those ten old fellows some reasons they couldn't refuse, persuading them to let you join the Ten Lords Bureau. Do you want to see the specific arrangements? I can organize them for you."
"No, no. It's enough to know Boss Acheron arranged it. It wouldn't be fun if everything were spoiled. Is there any specialty you want me to bring? I can come find you after a while."
"If you can, keep an eye on the overcoat exhibition being held in the Xianzhou Luofu a month from now. I have to look after a child and can't get away."
"Hmm? Kafka, you have a child?"
"It was only a metaphor. We've gained a new member. You'll meet her when the script begins, though if you come back, you can meet her ahead of time."
"Okay, then. I'm hanging up."
"Have fun living in the Xianzhou Luofu."
"Beep... beep... beep..."
Bai Sheng put away his phone. When he looked up, he saw a familiar figure: short, with matcha-green hair, a little hat, a Yin-Yang Fish head ornament, and drooping ears. Who else could it be but Huohuo?
"Huohuo!"
Bai Sheng greeted her.
Huohuo whipped around and saw Bai Sheng.
"Huh? Asheng? Why are you still here?"
Before you continue
