As the wound on his face rapidly healed, he braced his hands on the ground and retreated again and again, dodging William Adena's swift shortsword attacks.
William truly deserved to be called a top-tier soldier, with 21 Strength, 19 Agility, 4 Power Strike, and 4 Athletics. A mere shortsword took on the fierce momentum of splitting mountains and shattering rocks in his hands.
His strength made Ergons feel as though he were fighting a brown bear.
He completely overwhelmed Ergons's 17 Strength and 15 Agility!
The gap between them was equivalent to the highest attributes of an ordinary adult farmer.
With every movement, William kicked tables, chairs, and benches in the dining hall to pieces or chopped them apart. In less than half a minute, he forced Ergons into a corner with almost no room to maneuver.
"You forced me to do this!"
Press CTRL+F4 to automatically knock out the enemy. The William who had just been attacking with such ferocity let out a "Guh" and collapsed unconscious.
With a clang of the gong, he leveled up.
Looking down at his coat of arms, Ergons saw that the velvet surcoat over his chest had been shredded to tatters. Even the iron plates and chain links beneath bore countless crisscrossing cuts.
"Brother!"
Elisa Adena was startled when her brother, who had clearly held the upper hand, suddenly fell to the ground.
How could Ergons allow this woman, who clearly possessed some talent for throwing weapons, to keep attacking freely?
He pulled off his belt, strode forward in two steps, seized Elisa's wrist, and pinned her against the heavy solid-wood table. Within a minute, he had twisted both her hands behind her back and bound them with the leather strap.
"Mmph... hngh, let me go... mm, mm, you're hurting me! You bastard, what did you do to David?"
The woman still struggled desperately, panting heavily as she cursed at him.
Ergons held her down on the table, ruthlessly grabbed a handful of her springy backside with his right hand, and asked with a smile, "How did you figure it out?"
He opened his personal panel and found the section for people he knew. Elisa Adena and William Adena had both become hostile, with a relationship score of -50.
That victory had also leveled him up.
Since these siblings had been able to see through him, he had to spend his points in the most advantageous direction. He again put one Attribute point into Intelligence for more Skill points, but this time he put both Skill points into Persuasion.
His stats became:
Ergons Tervalin (Sir Davis Tevalin) Level: 25 Health: 65 Attributes: Strength: 17, Agility: 15, Intelligence: 7, Charisma: 6 Skills: Iron Bones: 1, Power Strike: 2, Power Draw: 1, Riding: 3, Weapon Mastery: 2, Tracking: 1, Path-finding: 1, Persuasion: 2 Weapon Proficiency: One-Handed: 430, Two-Handed: 410, Polearms: 420, Archery: 300, Throwing: 300, Firearms: 300 Cheat Command: Level One Function Commands: 4 Level Two Function Commands: 5
As he continued putting Attribute points into Intelligence, his mind grew clearer and clearer. Putting Skill points into Persuasion had also inexplicably given him techniques for talking to people.
It also gave him a basic sense of whether he was capable of persuading someone.
Take Elisa Adena before him. Fierce despair shone in her eyes, and he could tell that she truly cared about Sir Davis Tevalin.
Now that she had seen through him, it would probably be difficult to ensure that she would not turn on him at a crucial moment.
And William Adena, who shared honor and disgrace with his sister, would likely never be usable by him again.
Ergons's gaze shifted back and forth between the woman and the unconscious man.
In the end, he picked up the shortsword William Adena had used earlier, walked over to the unconscious William, grabbed his hair with one hand, and placed the sword beneath his neck with the other, ready to separate his head from his body.
"No, don't kill my brother!"
Ergons Tervalin's movement paused. He looked up at the beauty whose hatred was mixed with panic. Even as tears streamed down her face, she did not look the least bit disheveled.
Instead, she looked heartbreakingly beautiful—enough to move anyone's heart.
"Your brother is no use to me anymore. Since you recognized me, you're a threat to me."
"We're useful!"
His expression seemed unable to escape those perceptive eyes. Elisa steeled herself and rolled off the thick solid-wood dining table.
She rolled to his feet on her knees and pleaded pitifully enough to soften anyone's heart. "We're useful. If you disguised yourself as David, then you must have something you need to do. But you're far too different from David now. You need us. Please, don't kill my brother."
After all that disheveled struggling, her undershirt had been rubbed open as well. Her upper body was completely exposed, displaying an infuriating charm whether it should have been seen or not.
He truly hesitated. Before crossing over, he had just been a shut-in teenager with a face good enough for readers to project themselves onto, and he had only ever seen this kind of temptation through a screen.
When had he ever had a chance to get his hands on it himself?
Cold sweat immediately beaded on his forehead. His throat went dry, his heart raced, and his whole body heated up. It felt as if blood had rushed to his head, as though his heart were about to leap out of his throat.
Elisa was truly skilled at using her advantages. Ignoring the icy coldness of his armor, she pressed her entire body against him.
"Who the hell could endure this? I crossed over—was I supposed to become some kind of prude?"
With one slash, he cut the leather strap around Elisa's hands. He pushed away her hands as she hurriedly tried to help him remove his armor, unequipped it with one click through the inventory screen, then tossed Elisa onto the long dining table. (To save you from wasting data watching a video, the next 2:45:13 of the story has been omitted.)
After 2:53:24 had passed, Adam, Elisa Adena, Ergons Tervalin, and William Adena sat around the long dining table in the thoroughly wrecked dining hall once more.
The group stared awkwardly at one another. The least embarrassed among them was probably Adam, who had no idea what had happened.
Pure-hearted young Adam had gone out to hide because he was too shy. Less than an hour later, when he returned, he saw William Adena—so embarrassed he was practically socially dead—standing guard at the door.
William stopped Adam from entering, and the two of them stood outside in the small courtyard below the tower, chatting.
After more than an hour of probing, William Adena had practically extracted all of Adam's background from him. The fool still thought he had not revealed anything.
Then the three people who had experienced social death met again. When William, Ergons, and Elisa faced one another once more, they all had the same thought: perhaps it was not entirely their fault.
Ergons had not expected Ergons Tervalin, this strapping young man, to be only seventeen yet have a body as impressive as the handsome readers of this novel. Nor had he expected the knocked-out William Adena to wake up after just one hour...
Anyway, no matter how awkward it was, they sat down at the long table again. On the relationship panel, William Adena's and Elisa Adena's affection toward him had strangely risen by a great deal after this awkward reunion, returning to more than +40.
"You must be Ergons Tervalin, right? I saw you twice when you served under the Chancellor. I never expected that after a little makeup, you and David would look so alike."
William Adena, who had the least idea what position he should take toward Ergons—the man who had knocked him unconscious in a single move—was the first to break.
"The corpse sent back last time was David's, wasn't it? He carried out the Church's plan to assassinate you. If his skills were inferior and you killed him, then he had it coming."
Mentioning Sir Davis in this atmosphere gave the already awkward relationship between Elisa and Ergons an added flavor of a widow-themed series.
Seeing the conversation drifting further and further off course, Ergons could only steer it back. "Right now, I need to keep an appointment. I need to know whether there's anything I should pay attention to regarding my relationship with Bein Spencer."
