Background / History
Noble heir and pirate captain
Horus was born the heir of a minor noble family in the United Kingdom of Hogrem. Sent to his main family as a page at six, he became the main heir's squire at fourteen and left home at twenty-two over personal grievances. At twenty-three, a Count of Tervain hired him to captain a private trading fleet, which proved to be a legal slave ship engaged in human trafficking and attacks on rival pirates. By age thirty, Horus considered himself above the pirates he commanded, despite having profited from and participated in their crimes. 17
Fearing that the Count of Tervain intended to sacrifice his men during an invasion, Horus planned to split his force after dark: one group would enter Tervain Village while he escaped with the other into the mountains near Tevalinburg. 17 His 14-man band later defeated a larger Northern Legion escort through superior combat effectiveness and leadership. 18
Defeat and mutation
Ergons's forces destroyed most of Horus's band during their raid on Tervain Village. Horus abandoned baggage and stolen goods to flee, but continued to be pursued across the borderlands. 21 23 He and his one-eyed first mate ultimately survived in the wilderness, grieving their crew and swearing revenge against the nobleman who had spared them. 26
After the pair ate raw wild rats, Horus mutated more severely than his first mate. He ceased eating ordinary food, survived on blood alone, suffered in sunlight, and was believed by the One-Eyed Dragon to possess Siren blood. 28
Blood Ancestor
Horus came to regard himself as favored by an evil god after receiving visions of a skeleton entwined in withered vines. He gained the ability to infect people, create Blood Kin, and control them as extensions of his own senses. 57 60 He sought to replace the Holy Light as a continent-wide faith and used captured villagers as blood supplies while expanding his following. 57 60
His first major assault on Ergons ended disastrously. Ergons defeated more than a hundred charging Blood Kin, forcing Horus and seven Embraces to flee. 59 Horus nevertheless continued shadowing Ergons, driven by revenge, fear, and a desire to seize Ergons's unusually powerful body. 60
Capture and service under Ergons
Horus ambushed Ergons in a village with Blood Kin infiltrators and attempted to infect him with parasitic worms carried in Blood Kin blood. His long-range tongue attack and the evil god's intervention initially allowed him to evade fatal strikes. 61 He absorbed the blood of dead Blood Kin, entered Eclosion, and emerged with bat-like wings, but Ergons stunned and captured him; the Old One linked to Horus was captured as well. 62
Ergons offered Horus a choice between destruction and conversion to the Holy Light. Horus accepted recruitment into Ergons's party, received the Tervalin surname, and was forcibly reshaped into a more human-looking and more powerful subordinate. 63 Although his loyalty rose sharply, he retained distrust and resentment while struggling to accept that Ergons's village-wide blessings eclipsed his former sense of uniqueness. 64
Blood Kin clan leader
Under Ergons's influence, Horus began considering less destructive uses for his powers, including slowing aging and restoring vitality through the white blood and insects produced by his body. 65 He also acted as a ruthless enforcer, targeting men and livestock in the Viscount's territory on Ergons's orders. 70
Later, Horus relocated his Blood Kin into the Transverse Mountains, where they could feed on animals rather than human victims. He established a cave settlement, hunting grounds, and a rudimentary herding system for a clan of over one hundred Blood Kin. 110 111 By the time of the Gaudy City conflict, he had gathered more than 350 Blood Kin, though he secretly cooperated with Ergons by directing them into Ergons's attacks. 114 116
Appearance
Horus was initially a refined, well-dressed man in his early thirties, visibly younger and better kept than the pirates under his command. 17 His mutation transformed him into a pale, bloodthirsty creature before Ergons later altered his appearance.
- Reptilian eyes with dark-red and emerald-green coloring during his early mutation. 28
- Deathly pale skin and a hairless, inhuman form after becoming a Blood Kin. 62 63
- Bat-like wings gained through Eclosion. 62
- Claw-like hands and feet, wing-joint bone spurs, and serrated scales along the wing edges after his Power Strike enhancement. 63
- Ergons restored a nose, gave his skin a healthier white tone, and caused a receding hairline to grow, making his face resemble a human man's again. 63
- Received armor from Ergons to further conceal his monstrous traits. 63
Personality
Horus is calculating, self-preserving, and opportunistic. As a pirate captain, he immediately planned for betrayal by the Count of Tervain and intended to abandon both his invasion force and his family if necessary to secure his own escape. 17 He could also be disciplined and tactically capable, as shown by his leadership against the Northern Legion and later by his decision to discard supplies to improve his escape route. 18 23
As the Blood Ancestor, Horus became vain and messianic. He enjoyed flattery, envisioned the Blood Kin replacing the Holy Light, and underestimated Ergons's strength during their first open battle. 57 59 His defeat, capture, and loss of connection to the evil god left him fearful and bitter, yet he adapted quickly when faced with overwhelming power. 62 64
Under Ergons, he gradually adopts greater caution and practical leadership. He learns from Ergons's methods, avoids recklessly investigating unknown underground kin, and builds a sustainable Blood Kin settlement instead of relying solely on raids. 111
Abilities & Skills
Blood Kin Creation and Control
As Blood Ancestor, Horus can infect humans and turn them into Blood Kin. He commands his descendants remotely and can perceive through their senses.
- Infected seventeen villagers after attacking a small settlement, using them as the core of his rebuilt force. 60
- Controlled more than a hundred Blood Kin during the siege assault and experienced damage through their shared senses when Ergons struck them. 57 59
- Blood Kin under his control functioned as puppets; captured Blood Kin later exploded rather than provide useful intelligence. 80
- Directed Blood Kin to charge into Ergons's attacks during the Gaudy City battle. 116
Blood Sight and Parasites
Horus and his Blood Kin can perceive living targets through heartbeats and blood flow, even through physical barriers.
- Detects creatures within approximately ten to twenty meters by observing their blood circulation as distinct “shadows.” 61
- Blood Kin blood carries small white parasitic worms intended to infect victims. 61
- The worms are ineffective against Ergons because his System absorbs them as energy. 61
Blood Manipulation
Horus can drain blood and use accumulated blood to restore or transform his body.
- Drained Ergons's blood and health through an invisible force. 62
- Drew blood from corpses toward himself while incapacitated, using it to recover and begin Eclosion. 61 62
- His body produces white blood and insects that can be used in experiments connected to rejuvenation and vitality restoration. 65
Tongue Spit
Horus possesses an abnormal, long-range tongue attack.
- Can extend his tongue three to four meters at more than twice his normal maximum speed. 61
- The tongue's mucus can scatter parasitic worms onto a target. 61
- A blade strike deflected the tongue but did not sever it. 61
Flight
Following Eclosion, Horus developed bat-like wings and the ability to fly.
- His wings unfurled after his final molt and became supported by hardened bones. 62
- Flew from the Transverse Mountains to Gaudy City to report his discovery to Ergons. 112
- His flying speed is inferior to a griffon's, making pursuit a serious danger. 112
Rejuvenation
Horus can slow aging and restore bodily function through his Blood Kin-derived materials.
- Recognized that his powers could be used to slow aging and aid Tervain Village's economy. 65
- His insects and white blood were tested as components of an acquired strengthening and rejuvenation potion. 64 65
Equipment
- Longsword — carried while commanding his pirate band. 17
- Armor supplied by Ergons — used to make his altered Blood Kin form appear more human. 63
Relationships
- Ergons Tervalin — former enemy, captor, and later liege. Ergons recruited Horus, granted him the Tervalin surname, and repeatedly strengthened and controlled his loyalty. 62 63
- One-Eyed Dragon — former first mate and fellow survivor. He cared for Horus during his early mutation despite fearing him. 26 28
- The Old One / evil god — Horus's former patron, whose visions empowered his Blood Ancestor ambitions. Its capture severed Horus's connection to it. 60 62
- Blood Kin clan — Horus's descendants, followers, and remotely controlled collective. He later settled them in the Transverse Mountains. 57 111
Notable Quotes

“Ergons Tevalin!” 57
Trivia
- Horus was chronologically thirty during his pirate days, but after becoming a Blood Kin, his character panel listed his age as one. 17 63
- Before Ergons altered his appearance, Horus had a Charisma score of -27; raising it to -10 restored several human facial features but did not remove his claws or wings. 63
- He is one of the few Blood Kin able to travel during the day, making him responsible for personally delivering messages between his clan and Ergons. 111
