Antoine took out a stump from an ordinary tree that even Locke did not recognize.
The stump was hollow in the middle, with a hole on either side just large enough to fit a person's arm. It looked like a piece of clothing, and its surface seemed to have been patched with bark from other trees.
Locke also sensed that this was an ordinary, nonmagical plant. There was not a trace of magical energy on it.
Antoine took out a dagger-shaped wand. As he stabbed it down, the wand's force magic was actually blocked by the stump. Then the force magic bent around the ordinary plant, and the wave bolt began ricocheting between the dagger-shaped wand in Antoine's hand and the stump. Forced out of shape, the wave bolt finally destabilized and exploded with a bang.
Locke stared in surprise at the plant in his hand.
A wave bolt was a cantrip of roughly half a ring that a first-class wizard apprentice could use.
Yet it could not pierce an ordinary tree stump.
"What is this?" Locke asked.
"This is equipment used by those savages on the Ancient Planet," Antoine said. "At first, we wizards of the Elder Council also thought they were just a primitive tribe. But it turned out to be a nightmare."
Antoine held his forehead and shook his head slightly.
"They really played us for fools. After arriving on the Ancient Planet, we encountered these primitive people. We gave them quite a few resources, hoping to establish a trading partnership. The Elder Council originally thought that people with such limited experience couldn't possibly have seen many good things. A few small gifts should have been enough to tempt them.
