And being able to do this was extremely important. It could maximize a wizard's understanding of First-Ring Spells.

For a First-Class Wizard Apprentice to become a Formal Wizard, not only did his Mental Power need to meet the standard, but he also needed a corresponding understanding of First-Ring Botany spells and the ability to construct his own first First-Ring Spell.

In a sense, every Cantrip Model Wizard Apprentices learned before First-Ring Spells was preparation for their first First-Ring Spell.
