Although Locke knew neither alchemy nor Enchanting, he had heard Sasari explain some simple concepts during Universal Studies, a general-knowledge course.

Take the Berserk Rhino's leather armor, for example. An Enchanter's method was to stack various enchantment runes onto the leather armor, even using the core masterpiece of the Enchantment School—Rune-Language Engraving.

By layering external enchantment magic onto the leather armor's properties, one could create magic-resistant leather armor.

The advantage was that it was simple, fast, and convenient. The drawback was that the magic-resistant leather armor produced this way had very low durability.

A proper alchemist's method, however, was probably to first use an alchemical formation to restore the Berserk Rhino's hide to its most primitive state and preserve its optimal properties. Then, various substances would be used to synthesize the leather armor's material, finding the best material for magic-resistant leather armor before creating a piece of armor from that material.

The advantage was its high potential and durability. The drawbacks were that its lower limit was also low, while the cost and time required were high.

This was also the biggest reason Enchanters and alchemists disliked each other.

Locke did not bring up the rather inappropriate topic of how using Enchanting techniques to create Magic Items was more fitting for low-level apprentices than for Dwarves like Tayne. Instead, he said, "Alchemist Tayne, I need to purchase a magic metal."

"A magic metal meant for some kind of close-combat Plant Magic. I need to use it to improve the close-combat performance of a Magic Plant."

Tayne's eyes lit up. The Dwarf craftsman looked extremely pleased, clearly a man of broad experience. "I like doing challenging work. I understand. You want to attach a magic metal to a Magic Plant, right?"
