The Queen looked at Tang Sanzang, her eyes shimmering.
Tang Sanzang thought it over and finally dismounted. Turning around, he walked toward the Queen, who also dismounted at that moment.
The Queen gazed at him, her eyes filled with reluctance. She lifted her head to look at Tang Sanzang and said, "Imperial Brother, I want to ask you something. Can you tell me the answer?"
Tang Sanzang looked at her, and before he knew it, his eyes had grown slightly moist.
The Queen stepped forward, grabbed Tang Sanzang's sleeve, and said, "Imperial Brother, did you ever like me?"
Tang Sanzang gently reached out and patted her delicate hand. "Perhaps in another life..."
With that, Tang Sanzang did not linger. He turned around, mounted White Dragon Horse, and continued westward.
"Clip-clop! Clip-clop! Clip-clop!"
The sound of hooves rang out. The travelers heading west chatted and laughed along the way, but Tang Sanzang alone was weighed down by endless sorrow.
The Queen stood there in a daze, still recalling Tang Sanzang's final words: "Perhaps in another life..."
She had already received the answer she wanted. If Tang Sanzang truly did not like her, he would never have said such a thing. As a monk, he naturally would not speak of feelings and love. Yet those few words—"Perhaps in another life"—contained a thousand unspoken sentiments.
At that moment, atop Spirit Mountain in the Western Heaven, Tathagata's lips curved into a faint smile. He said in a clear voice, "In the end, Golden Cicada has overcome this tribulation of love."
Maitreya reclined within a lotus, his face full of smiles. "Well done, Tathagata. During this tribulation, I was truly afraid that Golden Cicada would fail because of a moment's hesitation!"
