The mortal originally had a happy and fulfilling family. But during a recent rest, he fell asleep and had a terrible nightmare.
In it, his wife and children, who had evacuated to the agricultural zone, were pounced upon by sudden, decaying zombies and turned into mangled flesh.
They shambled step-by-step towards his location.
After the war he was in concluded, he was fortunate enough to survive.
He watched as a version of himself, once beaming with pride and happiness, went to retrieve his wife and children, observing as a third party.
But what greeted him were the familiar, gaping maws of his wife and children.
He was filled with despair, rage, and fear. Though he held a weapon in his hand, he dared not fire at his wife and children.
Until he watched those gaping maws bite into him, just as they had torn into his wife and children like zombies.
His flesh and organs were ripped away, and eventually, he too became one of those zombies.
Then, an airdrop pod crashed down from the sky. The Imperial Angels that emerged unhesitatingly raised their Bolters and, with three shots each, put his entire family to rest.
Watching the exploding bodies of his wife and children. By the time he reacted, the third-person perspective had shifted to first-person. He was back in his own body within the dream.
The incoming Bolter round seemed to be under a slow-down curse, moving incredibly slowly. But in his eyes, it grew larger and larger. He wanted to move, to dodge, but he couldn't, no matter what.
Finally, he watched as the Bolter round accurately struck his body and detonated.
After that, he was jolted awake by this nightmare.
He was afraid, and also angry. Why hadn't these Emperor's Angels come when they were suffering? Why did they only arrive after his family had met their tragic end, only to dispatch them like nobles casually dismissing beggars from the upper hive?
He hated them.
Looking at his own hands, with only eight fingers remaining from the battle. He wanted to tear everything apart. He wanted revenge.
He glared at the Astartes with their backs turned to him, gritted his teeth, raised his M35m-Star-Class Short Laser Gun, aimed at an Astartes's head, and unhesitatingly pulled the trigger.
A beam of laser fire struck the back of the Astartes's helmet.
The sudden, almost ticklish attack stunned the Astartes. He immediately turned around, only to see a soldier holding a laser gun, smoke curling from its barrel.
It was the soldier who had just had the nightmare.
"Not good." Realizing something instantly, he cursed under his breath and fired a Bolter round.
But the Bolter round was stopped by an invisible wall directly in front of the soldier.
Seeing the Bolter round was useless, he drew the Combat Dagger from his waist and charged, stabbing the mortal through the heart.
This scene shocked all the mortals present.
The Combat Dagger was slowly withdrawn. The mortal soldier collapsed to the ground, his eyes vacant. Blood flowed from his chest, pooling on the ground.
The Astartes flicked the blood from his dagger and turned to resume his combat post.
The other mortal soldiers said nothing upon witnessing this, as most of them had seen the soldier attack the Imperial Angel just now.
Clearly, he had been corrupted by Chaos.
One soldier walked over, weapon raised, preparing to finish him off.
But in the next second.
The mortal soldier's chest on the ground suddenly split open, and a faint Warp vortex appeared within the ruptured cavity.
In an instant, a massive, scarlet, muscle-bound clawed arm shot out, grabbing the soldier who was about to finish him off and crushing them into pieces.
A commotion erupted from behind. Gers turned his head and saw a red demon with two horns and sharp teeth emerging from the fallen soldier's chest, its upper body already reaching two meters tall.
The Bolter was unhesitatingly turned, its roar igniting.
The other Battle-Brothers, hearing the sound, immediately turned back. Their pupils contracted upon seeing the demon, and they immediately joined the fight.
Another Greater Demon had appeared. And judging by its power and size, it was even more formidable than the demon on the ship earlier.
"Roar."
With a furious roar, all the mortals around them instantly clutched their ears and knelt on the ground, their eyes bloodshot.
And in the next second, these mortals collapsed, lifeless. Blood, like living little snakes, began to flow towards the demon's location.
Countless Bolter rounds struck the demon, but they only embedded themselves in the surface of its skin, not even detonating.
In just a few seconds, the blood, centered on the corpses, slowly formed the shape of an Arabic numeral "8".
At the point where the arcs of the number eight met, the two streams of blood touched. A sudden psychic shockwave overwhelmed the entire defensive line.
Even a large portion of the charging Genestealers were blown away. The charging line abruptly halted.
And in the center, a massive Warp portal suddenly materialized.
The demon, whose upper body alone was two meters tall, closed its eyes with arrogant satisfaction, spread its ten-meter-long, fleshy wings, and slowly floated into the air.
Its six-meter height instilled a terrifying sense of oppression in everyone present.
And in the next second, roars echoed from within the Warp portal.
Then, a demon with curved horns and a beast-like head slowly walked out.
Its bestial face showed no discernible emotion, but everyone present could feel its excitement.
Its muscled body, face covered in sharp bone spurs, and deep-set eye sockets blazing with crimson fire, all declared its identity.
A Bloodletter.
The Bloodletter shouldered its Hellblade, looking at everyone present with a mixture of provocation and arrogance.
Immediately after, a canine creature with tough scales, skin, and claws as sharp as blades leaped through the Warp portal.
A Flesh Hound.
Quan Tiehua was the first to open fire, surprised that Khorne had come to join the fun. He held down the trigger, emptying the Bolter magazine in mere seconds, then discarded the Bolter, drew the plasma pistol from his hip, and unleashed a barrage of fire at the Bloodletter.
At the same time, he drew the Chainsword from his hip, activated it, and charged forward rapidly.
Seeing this, the Bloodletter roared with excitement and then used its Hellblade to block the plasma pistol's attacks, charging forward quickly.
The two instantly swung their weapons, colliding directly, sparks flying everywhere.
The Flesh Hound then leaped into the air from Quan Tiehua's rear flank, lunging towards his head.
But then the sound of Bolter fire rang out, and the Flesh Hound was hit, sent flying sideways.
