The slaughter began in a bloody fashion. The one-sided outcome was laid bare before everyone right from the start.
Quan Tiehua swept his Power Sword in a wide arc, slicing the heads off more than a dozen Little Japan soldiers and sending them flying into the sky.
The monomolecular Combat Dagger in his other hand stabbed straight into the temple of another Little Japan soldier charging at him.
The Astartes clearly wielded only a small dagger, but against ordinary people, it was no different from a massive cleaver.
The entire dagger pierced straight through the soldier's brain, nearly ripping off the upper half of his skull!
Seeing another Little Japan soldier charge forward, he yanked out the dagger, bringing brain matter and blood with it. The arm guard on the back of his hand smashed into the charging soldier's head, caving in a huge section.
That sweeping motion also flung away the disgusting residue clinging to the Combat Dagger.
The battle was an utterly one-sided slaughter. Some of the Astartes even hung their Chainswords back on their waists. After all, they were running low on Promethium Fuel.
One of them clenched both fists and punched left and right, smashing one Little Japan soldier's head with each blow. The terrifying force of his punches turned the soldiers, helmets and all, into splattered mush.
He slammed a Little Japan soldier with a bomb strapped to his body against the wall. His other fist crashed down, smashing the man's head into bits.
At that moment, another Little Japan soldier charged over with a bayonet and a bomb. The fist that had just pulverized the previous soldier's head swung violently, caving in the newcomer's skull and snapping his cervical spine.
Then four or five Little Japan soldiers with bombs strapped to their bodies pulled their pins and died as they leaped at him from behind.
But he was not alone.
Another Astartes beside him struck out with both hands, seized two Little Japan soldiers, and hoisted them up before hurling them at the mass of Little Japan soldiers still charging this way, just like skipping flat stones across water.
They skipped right over the heads of the crowd. Each landing smashed several Little Japan soldiers' spines backward.
Seeing that his brother had helped him, he crossed his arms and reached backward, grabbing the heads of two more Little Japan soldiers. He heaved them up, then slammed them down like a shoulder throw. With a bang, both men crashed heavily into the ground.
Their organs and bones shattered, and blood spewed from their mouths. Then came a soccer-style kick. The powerful blow sent their bodies flying into the crowd like lumps of mud.
Boom, boom, boom, boom—
Four explosions followed in rapid succession!
At that very moment, while the battle raged here, Cai Tiantong hurriedly announced from the Command Room of Shattered Dome Base, "The monsters have come ashore! The two Category 4 Kaiju are Flowing Blade and Fist Scorpion!"
Crimson Typhoon, along with the newly landed Cherno Alpha and Eureka Striker, which had just finished adjusting their stances, all turned to look.
Without warning, the sea's surface in the bay began churning violently. The seawater, stirred into a murky green by the monsters, roiled wildly like the typhoons that appeared every year without fail.
Crash—
The first to break through the water was Flowing Blade. Its body was long and slender, like a blade drawn from the deep sea. Its sinuous body was covered in rock-hard, centipede-like armor. Its back rose high, and its dorsal ridge suddenly spread open like a fin, reflecting a razor-sharp glint under the sunlight.
As it cut through the waves, it was like a knife slicing across the water, leaving not even a splash.
At nearly the same moment, the sea in the distance exploded, and Fist Scorpion's enormous body leaped out of the water.
Its entire body was covered in armor resembling rock encrusted with coral. At the ends of its thick arms were a pair of enormous fists, which together were even larger than the energy stack atop Cherno Alpha's head.
Its clenched fists swung through the air with a whooshing sound, already demonstrating the power behind its punches. Its tail was raised high like the stinger of a giant scorpion, its tip flashing with deadly cold light. As the stinger swayed, it easily cleaved through the seawater.
"Monsters! Monsters!"
In the distance, the America soldiers who had still been watching the battle erupted into a full-scale panic.
Everyone ran backward in confusion. Those closest by climbed straight onto armored vehicles and tanks that had already started moving and were turning without regard for their comrades' lives.
When Fist Scorpion's heavy footsteps first struck the shore, sending out a thunderous tremor and shaking the ground, the scale of the panic rose another level.
The commander, still sitting atop a vehicle that had already begun moving, shouted through a loudspeaker for the soldiers to calm down and retreat in an orderly fashion!
But the next second, a stray bullet from who knew where struck him directly in the forehead.
He toppled stiffly onto the roof of the armored jeep, blood streaming down.
As the accidental gunshot rang out, the crowd fell silent for only a second or two before gunfire erupted everywhere.
Some soldiers, already scared witless, snatched up machine guns and opened fire wildly on their comrades, who were clinging desperately to the backs of the armored vehicles like zombies and slowing them down.
That scene once again drove the surrounding America soldiers into a frenzy.
Some soldiers with no hope of escape pulled a rocket launcher from an ammunition crate. After loading it, they aimed at the armored vehicle that had previously shoved them off and refused to let them squeeze aboard.
When they pulled the trigger, the rocket trailed flames and slammed into the side of the armored vehicle under the terrified gaze of the soldiers inside, triggering a massive explosion.
"Fuck!"
Far away inside the White Palace, the President of America saw the live satellite broadcast and angrily flung his coffee cup onto the table. Scalding coffee splashed everywhere.
"It seems those soldiers stationed overseas have truly been corrupted beyond recognition." The president's furious roar left everyone trembling with fear.
Yet no one around him dared make the slightest move. "Order the Seventh Fleet stationed at Yokosuka to depart immediately for Edo. You must bring every one of those ironclad men back to me! Even if it means war."
"Yes, sir!"
The Blood Angels had also spotted the two hundred-meter-tall monsters on the coastline behind them.
After punching a Little Japan soldier dozens of meters away, Quilstein stared blankly at the two monsters. "Emperor above! What kind of xenos are those?"
By then, the Little Japan army charging at them had been reduced from several thousand soldiers to just over a thousand.
Beginning at the point where the two sides first engaged in close combat, a blood-red corridor nearly two kilometers long stretched toward Southwest China across the battlefield.
Countless chunks of flesh, corpses, and pools of blood dyed the corridor into something resembling hell.
When the remaining Little Japan soldiers saw the two monsters bounding toward them, the entire charging crowd paused for a moment.
The fear in their exchanged glances and evasive eyes was unmistakable.
But the commander hiding at the very rear roared, "The Empire needs us! For our compatriots to have broader living space, charge forward! Tenno Heika! Banzai!"
All the Little Japan soldiers exchanged glances. Then vicious expressions resurfaced on their faces, and they charged at Quan Tiehua and the others while shouting, "Banzai!"
Meanwhile, behind them, the artillery positions, along with Crimson Typhoon, Cherno Alpha, and Eureka Striker, had already turned away and left their positions, charging in the direction the monsters were advancing.
