Background / History
The Emperor recounts that he was born with immense strength and immortality but initially lacked a purpose. After living among humanity, observing its development, and repeatedly guiding and saving it, he made the continuation and advancement of human civilization his lifelong cause. 78
During the Dark Age, he defined two principal objectives: leading humanity against the Chaos Gods while establishing the Imperium, and creating the Webway Project to prevent further Warp incursions. Both projects gained supporters and opponents. 78
Following the Horus Heresy, the Emperor ascended the Golden Throne. From there, he watched later rulers invoke his name to justify atrocities, corruption, and cooperation with xenos or Chaos; this outcome remains a source of anger and regret for him. 78
He directly summons Tie Hui in the Warp after recognizing the unusual nature of his soul. The Emperor reveals that Chaos had noticed Tie Hui and that his own protection prevented Tie Hui from becoming a Chaos spawn. 77 He subsequently grants Tie Hui the red pentagram blessing, which becomes a visible manifestation of the Emperor's will among the allied Chapters. 78 79
When the blessing's authority merges with Tie Hui's crippled System, the Emperor becomes its dominant consciousness. This allows a manifestation of him to accompany Tie Hui across worlds while remaining connected to his main self in the Warhammer universe. 102
Appearance
The Emperor has no single fixed form. His appearance changes according to the realm and manifestation through which he is perceived.
- In the Warp, he appears as a cold, immense sun surrounded by golden fire and the faces of fallen human heroes. 77
- During his first shipboard manifestation, he appears as a large, fuzzy orb of light before taking a more humanoid form. 101
- As the System's true spirit, he floats without legs; a smoke-like tail connects him to the red pentagram on Tie Hui's chest. 102
- Tie Hui cannot physically touch the manifestation, but the Emperor can strike or flick Tie Hui with apparent ease. 328 346
Personality
The Emperor is fundamentally devoted to humanity's survival, reason, and future. He rejects the idea that his purpose should be reduced to worship, insisting that humanity must be protected from Chaos, xenos predation, and its own descent into ignorance. 77 78
He is capable of self-reflection and openly acknowledges that his earlier ideals were overly hasty and idealistic. He is especially disturbed by the Ecclesiarchy and by those who exploit his name to legitimize cruelty. 77 78
His System manifestation displays far more casual humanity than his distant Golden Throne persona. He teases Tie Hui, issues petty punishments, dislikes sitting after millennia on the Golden Throne, and occasionally acts impulsively enough for Tie Hui to restrain him. 102 300 322
Abilities & Skills
Psychic Manifestation
The Emperor can project his will into the Warp, realspace, and Tie Hui's System-linked worlds.

- His power can bless weapons and ammunition, causing lasting damage to daemonic souls even after their banishment. 208

- His strength increases as faith in him spreads; this growth enables manifestations such as the more frequent appearance of the Word Bearers in realspace. 93
- His manifestation may remain hidden when powerful entities could detect his clone's energy. 256
System Integration
After merging with Tie Hui's damaged System, the Emperor gains access to its functions and serves as its guiding consciousness.
- Reads Tie Hui's thoughts through their connection. 103

Story Role / Major Arcs
The Emperor's Will
The Emperor's first direct exchange with Tie Hui reveals his regret over the Imperium's degeneration and his continued commitment to humanity rather than religious worship. His pentagram blessing inspires several Astartes Chapters to adopt the principle that ordinary humans are not servants, but fellow members of the species they are sworn to protect. 77 79
System Grandpa
After his authority fuses with Tie Hui's damaged System, the Emperor becomes a mobile manifestation able to accompany Tie Hui into other universes. He explains world anchoring, investigates the System's functions, and becomes increasingly involved in interworld strategy. 101 102 147
Darova System Crisis
During the conflict with Tzeentch and the Thousand Sons, the Emperor possesses Tie Hui to oppose Chaos forces. He realizes that Tie Hui's unusual soul may be capable of gathering humanity's accumulated Warp emotions and potentially becoming a god—a prospect the Emperor views as both dangerous and necessary. 229
New Earth and Interworld Expansion
The Emperor supports the Imperium's alliance with Necrons and Eldar, approves joint technological research, helps contain threats on Earth and Mars, and urges Tie Hui to expand beyond the Solar System rather than allow humanity's new civilization to stagnate. 322 323 326 328
