The next day.
After being kept under observation in the hospital, Charlotte underwent the first stage of her surgery: a thoracic neuroblastoma resection, with Adam as the lead surgeon.
Melissa and Charlotte's parents had both died in car accidents.
Their grandmother had raised them all along.
But now that their grandmother was getting older, she simply did not have much energy left.
Still, once the surgery truly began, their grandmother forced herself to come over and wait outside the Operating Room with Melissa.
Melissa's fiancé, Torrence, was there as well.
"So, how are the preparations for your wedding with Melissa going?"
Suppressing her worries over Charlotte's surgical outcome, Grandmother began asking about her eldest granddaughter's marriage.
"Very smoothly..."
Torrence glanced at his fiancée and forced out a smile.
"Melissa, it's your wedding too, and you specialize in planning weddings. You need to put more thought into it."
Grandmother had eaten more salt than they had rice—not because she had a heavy palate. She saw through the tension between them at once.
"I know, Grandma."
Melissa sounded a little irritated. "Charlotte's surgery is what matters most right now!"
"Sigh."
Grandmother sighed at once.
She was worried too.
Torrence's expression stiffened, but he could not say anything.
He could hardly claim that their wedding mattered more than his fiancée's younger sister's life, could he?
The surgery went on for a long time.
Even Grandmother could no longer hold out, but she refused to leave. Melissa held her in her arms and let her lean against her to rest.
When Adam walked out of the Operating Room, Melissa stared tensely into his eyes, terrified of seeing the look she did not want to see.
Fortunately, Adam smiled and nodded at her.
"Thank God!"
Melissa woke her grandmother, and together they waited for Adam
