New Jersey.

The Hofstadter Family.

"Certainly."

Adam laughed and said, "It's just my own way."

"Your own way?"

Beverly looked at Adam with great interest.

Not just anyone can pique her interest and lead her to invite them to conduct scientific experiments.

With Leonard's strong encouragement, she already knew Adam's basic situation.

Columbia University, genius writer, martial arts expert, champion of justice, best friend of the century...

She didn't believe any of the titles, because she knew her son too well.

Because he was so starved for love, he tried desperately to hold onto any relationship, and unconsciously amplified those feelings.

However, during her conversation with Adam, she began to acknowledge that Adam was not a 'stupid' person, and that he was the first person to become interested in Leonard and actively befriend him after reading her book.

This piqued her interest.

Adam's initiative to befriend Leonard, who is several years younger than him, is it a distortion of human nature or a decline in morality? Or is it an academic interest or an indescribable interest?

She didn't want to hear what Adam had to say; she wanted to see what Adam was thinking!

Specific neural responses represent absolute truth!

So she invited Adam to do an experiment, to scan his brain.

The nerves don't lie.

Just then, Leonard walked over with a tray. "Adam, your tea!"

"Thanks."

Adam took it.

"Dad, this is for you."

Leonard handed Alfred another glass.

"Thanks."

Alfred smiled and thanked him.

"Mom, this is for you."

Leonard handed it to Beverly, his expression shifting from previous cheerfulness to nervousness as he looked at his mother.

Oolong tea?

Beverly took the teacup and began her usual questions.

"Yes."

Leonard nodded quickly.

"Loose packaging, not tea bags?"

Beverly, holding her teacup, continued to ask questions.

"Yes."

Leonard rubbed his hands together, nodded again, and a smile appeared on his face, because he had successfully completed both requirements.

But this is far from over.

"Soaked for three minutes?"

"Yes!"

"Two percent milk?"

"Yes."

"Heat them separately?"

"Yes."

"A spoonful of sugar?"

"Yes."

"Rough sugar?"

"Yes."

Leonard's smile grew brighter and brighter. Just when he thought he had finally completed the task his mother had given him perfectly, the unexpected yet logical scene unfolded.

Why did it take so long?

Beverly complained again, then took a sip, put it down, gestured for Leonard to take it away, and said unhappily, "It's cold now. Looks like we know why."

"I'll brew you a fresh one."

Leonard took the teacup, smiled wryly, and left.

Because Beverly had too many requests, he had to take longer to fulfill them one by one, which caused the tea to "get cold," even though it hadn't gotten much colder in that short time.

But his mother is an extremely sensitive person; even a slight drop in temperature makes her feel cold.

So he has to go back and soak it again to make sure it meets all of Beverly's strict requirements, including the temperature!

"He keeps having problems even with something as simple as brewing tea. I really don't know how to teach him anymore."

Beverly shook her head.

Adam and Alfred exchanged a glance and remained silent for a moment.

Adam was thinking, "Poor Leonard!"

Alfred was thinking, "Poor Leonard, and even more pitiful me!"

"So".

Beverly turned her attention back to Adam, continuing the previous topic, "You said you would contribute to science in your own way? In what way?"

"I plan to become a doctor in the future (the word for doctor is a homophone for 'doctor')."

Adam laughed.

"What kind of PhD?"

Beverly pressed on, "Doctors in geology, anthropology, and other disciplines aren't really doctors, because they're of no use to scientific advancement."

"What did you say?"

Anthropologist Alfred couldn't take it anymore and angrily said, "Human science is also science. Without our research on human lifestyles and the revelation of the relationships between people and between people and nature, humanity will either be destroyed by war or by nature! If people are gone, what scientific development will there be?"

"Okay, I understand."

Beverly smiled dismissively, "The reason World War III didn't break out wasn't because nuclear physicists developed nuclear peace, but because you anthropologists told everyone that we can't do that, haha."

"Not a PhD."

Seeing Alfred's face turn red and his neck contorted, Adam quickly tried to smooth things over, saying, "I was talking about doctors. I'm planning to become a Cardiothoracic Surgeon."

"Surgeon?"

Beverly shook her head and said, "Is this what you call a contribution to science? There's nothing original at all, just repetitive stuff. What's the difference between this and a construction worker carrying bricks on a site?"

"Of course there is a difference."

Adam has gradually gotten used to Beverly's straightforwardness. After all, he had put up with the same personality as Little Sheldon for three years. With Leonard's help, he can just treat her as a female version of Sheldon.

Therefore, he no longer got angry at Beverly's sharp tongue, and smiled calmly, "A bricklayer can only build you a house if he does the same thing many times, but a surgeon can save your life at a critical moment if he does the same thing many times."

I think that saving a genius scientist like yourself, who has made a huge contribution to the development of science, could at least be considered a contribution to science, right?

Beverly looked at Adam with surprise and laughed, "I like it when you challenge me."

I like it, but I haven't seen you give me a 'like'!

Adam, who hadn't received a system notification, inwardly complained, but outwardly smiled and said, "I like that too."

"I need to pee."

Beverly suddenly stood up, using strange words.

Most people use "pee" or "peepee," not such a formal word as "urinate."

Except for Sheldon.

Coitus is a word Sheldon uses frequently, and it sounds much harsher than urinate.

"I'm sorry you had to see this."

After Beverly left, Alfred said awkwardly, "That's just how self-centered she is."

"Nothing."

Adam laughed and said, "But Leonard is very eager to gain her approval."

"Well."

Alfred sighed heavily and said with a self-deprecating laugh, "It's not just Leonard."

Adam looked at him with sympathy. It seemed that Beverly was very goal-oriented, that is, to have children. Once she achieved this goal, she would not waste her time and energy on such meaningless things.

They went through a seven or eight-year period without marital relations, which explains why Alfred eventually had an affair with a waiter.

He's having such a hard time!

Any man would probably go crazy if he were in that situation.

Thinking of this, Adam had an idea and asked, "Can you sing?"

"I know a little."

Alfred was taken aback.

"Do you drink alcohol?"

Adam pressed for an answer.

What do you think?

Alfred quipped, "Could I have lasted this long without alcohol?"

"That's fine then."

Adam smiled meaningfully and said, "I have a bold idea."
