You Are a Once-in-a-Generation Unparalleled Genius (Please Vote!)
County High School.
"Juno!"
Adam stared at Juno in disbelief.
"I believe in you!"
Juno encouraged him, "At worst, I'll streak with you when the time comes."
"Alright!"
Cash's eyes lit up at once. "As expected of Juno McGough. Now that takes guts. Adam, don't tell me you're scared?"
"Scared?"
Adam's expression turned ugly, but under Juno's repeated meaningful looks, his pride got the better of him. He could only say darkly, "What's there to be scared of?"
"Then it's settled."
Cash eagerly sealed the deal, then left with a booming laugh. Soon, noisy talk about the contest spread through the hallway. Clearly, Cash had no intention of giving Adam a chance to back out.
"Juno, what are you doing?"
Once only the four members of Fruit Hard Candy remained, Adam could no longer hold back. He shouted at Juno, "Why did you agree to that? We're talking about streaking!"
"What's the big deal?"
Juno said carelessly, "As long as we win the contest, it won't matter."
"Win?"
Adam's face was cold. "Cash may be annoying, but his musical talent is obviously better than any of ours. Forget his skill at playing classic rock—he can write original songs too. How are we supposed to beat him?"
"We can write original songs too."
Juno grinned. "Adam, you're actually really talented. I noticed it before—the little melody fragments you often play are amazing. As long as you put some effort into putting them together, not only can you beat Cash and win the contest, you might even become famous with a single song."
"Those were just accidental flashes of inspiration. There's no real structure to them."
Adam's expression eased slightly, and he shook his head with a bitter smile.
He finally understood where Juno's confidence came from. As a transmigrator, even if he had not been a music enthusiast in his previous life, he had lived in the age of big data. Through constant exposure, he had still come across plenty of classic music, including classic rock.
As his Wisdom Points increased, Adam's memories of his past life gradually became clearer. Whenever Fruit Hard Candy played rock together, snippets of those melodies would occasionally pop into his mind.
And any rock songs that could still reach an ordinary listener like Adam decades later were undoubtedly among the top ten works in rock history.
So even mere fragments of melody had been enough to amaze Juno and make her mistakenly believe that Adam possessed unparalleled talent...
"That was because you didn't have any motivation before."
Juno smiled. "Now you have an opportunity. As long as you can piece together a song, it'll absolutely crush Cash's, then sweep the whole school. Fame comes early, and once you succeed, won't that leadership bonus you've been hoping for be yours?"
"But what if we lose?"
Adam was tempted, but he still hesitated. After all, he was not a real American teenager. He had a huge mental hurdle when it came to streaking.
"Then we lose."
Juno said indifferently, "If Cash loses, do you really think he'll streak?"
"He won't?"
Adam was uncertain. In his memories, Americans were all especially wild. Wasn't streaking at the drop of a hat practically standard procedure?
"Please."
Juno rolled her eyes. "It's just a stunt to build hype. Other than lunatics, who goes streaking for no reason? When the time comes, just find an excuse to get out of it, or shamelessly pretend it never happened. Are you afraid of people talking?"
At that, she gave Adam a little look. "Besides, even if you do have to streak, so what? Plenty of people in school have already seen you. A few more won't make any difference."
"Ahem, stop talking nonsense!"
Adam was instantly embarrassed. This was all his predecessor's fault.
But with things put that way, Adam relaxed. Yeah, it's just like those people in my past life who kept livestreaming promises to eat shit. What idiot actually eats shit? It's all just hype.
"Hurry up. There aren't many days left before the weekend."
Juno reminded him, "Don't think you can stop caring just because you probably won't actually have to streak. Backing out will still be embarrassing. By then, even if you're handsome, you won't be able to pick up many girls."
"..."
Adam was speechless. Still, Juno had a point, especially her last two sentences. His spirits rose again as he headed home with Juno and the others, racking his brain to recall memories from his past life.
As long as he could fully remember one song, he was completely certain he could win the contest.
It was not like he was worried about being unable to pick up girls... Ever since he had started hanging out with Juno, the girls who had originally wanted to give him warm hugs to comfort him after Amazing Amy had "dumped" him had all stopped in their tracks and watched each other cautiously.
Of course, he thought that was pretty good too. It gave him more time to focus on studying, and he was not the kind of person who abandoned his friends for the opposite sex.
Between Juno's friendship and his predecessor's plain, boring Slice-of-Life existence, he would choose friendship without hesitation. He was just that principled of a man.
The weekend soon arrived, and one of the countless parties characteristic of the United States—Homecoming—was about to begin.
That day, the students dressed to the nines. Those who could invite dates did so, and the school had also invited quite a few well-known alumni to join the celebration.
After getting hold of the guest list from the principal ahead of time and seeing that his ex-girlfriend Amazing Amy was not on it, Adam relaxed completely.
Today would be a new turning point in his life. The last thing he wanted was for an ex-girlfriend to show up asking to get back together. He had played the dramatic fool long enough.
"...Now, please welcome Emotion Band, who will perform an original rock song, 'Love's Paradise.'"
After the host delivered the usual pleasantries and introduced the bet between Fruit Hard Candy Band and Emotion Band, drawing wild howls from the audience, he dragged out his words to signal for Cash and his band to take the stage first.
The curtains opened. Emotion Band's drummer, keyboardist, and bassist were already in position. Cash, the band's soul and its lead guitarist and vocalist, emerged with a guitar slung over his back.
"Whoa!"
"Cash! Cash!"
Whistles and applause instantly rang throughout the auditorium.
In this entertainment-obsessed era, students in a remote small town loved rock bands beyond compare. Especially a rock band that could write original songs—never mind whether the originals were any good. Even a mediocre catchy tune could send the students wild.
Bathed in that spotlight, Cash, who was already somewhat handsome, became explosively charming in the girls' eyes. Their shrill screams directly drowned out the boys.
"This is rock."
Emmett looked at the crazed, dressed-up girls below the stage and grew excited all over. Then he looked at Ivy, the date he had reluctantly invited because he had not wanted to show up alone and lose face, and she suddenly seemed much less appealing.
Damn it, why did I choose her? I should've known this kind of scene was coming. Once we take the stage, with our song, the girls will definitely go even crazier than they are now. Will I still be short on pretty dates then?
"It's your turn."
Amid the screams, Cash spread his arms as though he were king of the world, then pointed at Adam. His confidence and smugness were unmistakable.
"And now, please welcome Fruit Hard Candy Band..."
