Trouble Has Arrived (Please Vote!)
County High School.
Three in the afternoon.
The last science class had ended.
Mr. Givens, the science teacher, shot Little Sheldon a fierce glare and stormed off.
"Sheldon, how did it feel?"
Adam and the other two gathered around him, asking teasingly.
"How did it feel?"
Little Sheldon tilted his head and thought for a moment. "Fantastic! This was the happiest class I've had in years."
Science classes in United States high schools covered subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, and geography. Their purpose was to give students a grasp of general scientific concepts and principles, teach them how to correctly apply scientific methods, and solve all kinds of problems.
One could only imagine how much Little Sheldon, a firm believer in science above all else, loved this subject.
"I'm sure Mr. Givens felt exactly the opposite."
Adam joked.
"Absolutely."
Juno smiled in agreement. "If Sheldon weren't so young, I think Mr. Givens would definitely have taken a swing at him. He really had to hold himself back."
"Why?"
Little Sheldon frowned in confusion.
"You really don't know?"
Emmett complained, "All the teachers from today's classes were just like Mr. Givens. Sheldon, you're really good at offending people. Impressive!"
"All the teachers?"
Little Sheldon looked even more bewildered.
"Yeah, let's count them."
Adam prompted him. "In English class, you said Ms. McElroy hadn't shaved her little mustache clean."
"In math class, you questioned Mr. Ingram's credentials."
Juno picked up the thread.
"The science class was the best."
Emmett said theatrically, "First, you accused Mr. Givens of violating hygiene regulations and smelling strange. Then you said your intelligence threatened him and suggested that you should lead him instead. Wow! Sheldon, you really outdid yourself!"
"Was I wrong?"
Little Sheldon still did not understand.
"..."
Adam and the other two fell silent.
Little Sheldon's bluntness left them speechless, but his words were harsh while his reasoning was sound. Every problem he had pointed out truly existed. Public high school teachers were quite average, and for a super genius and straightforward boy like Little Sheldon, they really were hard to tolerate. He simply had to speak his mind.
"If I wasn't wrong, why can't I say it?"
Little Sheldon said righteously, "This is the United States. We have the right to every freedom."
"Hahaha!"
Adam and the other two exchanged looks, then burst out laughing together.
He had not yet been beaten down by society. He did not know that the so-called freedom for everyone was merely freedom for a select few. And even if Little Sheldon was a super genius and a future Nobel Prize-winning physicist, he was not one of those few, because he did not possess the Money Power of Iron Man or Batman.
"Uh-oh, trouble's here."
Just as the Fruit Hard Candy quartet was laughing in the classroom, the door was suddenly shoved open with force, and a group of people swaggered in. The moment Emmett saw them, he shrank his neck.
"Adam Duncan!"
"Cash Goodman!"
Adam recognized the punkish teenager leading them. He was another fairly well-known rock guy at County High School, followed by members of his Emotion Band.
Rivals in the same trade were natural enemies!
Emotion Band had always overshadowed PJ and The Vibe, but because Adam's unremarkableness far surpassed Cash's, Adam had always firmly ranked above Cash among the ladies' men. Amazing Amy's choice of ex-boyfriend made that clear enough.
One could imagine how unhappy Cash was. Conflicts between them had never stopped.
After Adam had transmigrated here, recognized Amazing Amy's identity, stopped casually changing girlfriends, and started trying to become a good student, those clashes had gradually decreased.
"Do you need something?"
Adam's gaze drifted over the girl beside Cash, and he understood most of the situation. He smiled helplessly.
"This little bastard runs with you?"
Cash had an arm around the girl and shot Little Sheldon a sidelong glance. "He's got some nerve, humiliating my girlfriend in public. Aren't you going to give me an explanation?"
"Forget it."
The somewhat alternative-looking girl frowned. "He's just a child."
She was the girl from the first class whom Little Sheldon had publicly pointed out was wearing a top that was too thin and too sheer.
"Shut up!"
Cash cursed. "Is this between you and him? This is about my pride!"
As he said that, he glanced at Juno and coolly tossed his flowing hair.
Juno smiled at Adam. Adam's mouth twitched, and both of them understood what was really going on.
In the original timeline, none of this had happened. As the alternative girl had said, Little Sheldon was just a child. She did not care about the slight embarrassment caused by his bluntness, so naturally, nothing came of it.
But in this timeline, because Adam and Little Sheldon were close, when word reached Cash's ears, he insisted on standing up for his girlfriend. And the person he came after was not Little Sheldon, but Adam.
First, Cash had already been extremely unhappy with Adam.
Second, seeing Adam growing closer to Juno lately made that dissatisfaction surge again.
Although Juno seemed strange and friendless to others, and many boys often mocked her to her face, that was only what showed on the surface. Secretly, many boys had crushes on Juno.
That's right, crushes!
Looks were justice. If Juno had not been someone who "went to see a psychologist at the drop of a hat, and four out of five psychologists said she had issues," and if the girls led by the cheerleaders had not collectively shunned Juno, claiming that any man who dated her had no taste, a punk like Cash would have pursued her long ago.
No playboy would give up a whole forest like the cheerleaders for a single tree like Juno.
But choosing not to was one thing. Seeing another man, especially his own enemy, get close to Juno was another matter entirely. Cash's mentality had exploded.
His girlfriend had conveniently been "bullied" by Adam's group, so there was nothing more to say. Cash came knocking at once.
"What do you want?"
Adam said disdainfully, "Beat Little Sheldon up?"
"What?!"
Little Sheldon immediately hid behind Adam. He was the kind of "warrior" who could be chased up a tree by a chicken and thank heaven that chickens could not climb trees. He felt deeply uncomfortable with any violence directed at him...
"Why would I hit him?"
Cash sneered. "He's your guy, so naturally you're responsible for him. The homecoming party is this weekend. We'll each take the stage and compete in front of the entire school. The losing side strips naked and runs ten laps around the school. Dare to do it?"
"Fuck!"
Adam immediately swore. This bastard was truly vicious. Forget having no confidence at all—even if victory were guaranteed, he would not accept such a contest. If he lost, whether he ran or not, he would be humiliated to death.
"Fine, let's do it! Who's afraid of who?"
Before Adam could refuse, a confident voice rang out beside him. Adam looked over in disbelief.
