This Is Texas
Texas.
Newt Town.
Outside the Sawyer Manor.
A white sedan slowly pulled up, and under Heather's gaze, an old man with a white beard in a suit stepped out.
"Mr. Franworth?"
"It's me. Are you Heather?"
The white-bearded old man looked at Heather with a kind expression.
"It's me."
Heather nodded. "Thank you for coming all the way from Dallas."
"This is what I should do."
Franworth reached out and shook hands with Heather: "It's all for Rella. She's a good person and the best woman."
At this point, glancing at the graffiti on the wall by the gate, he sighed, "But it's not very popular here."
"Can you tell me what exactly happened?"
Heather looked at him. "A few days ago, I didn't even know I had this grandmother."
"Sure."
Franworth handed the file bag to Heather: "The inheritance documents are all in here, in three steps, but I have to tell you, Rella doesn't want you to sell the manor, so she's put restrictions on the inheritance."
"These aren't urgent."
Heather casually took the file folder, her gaze fixed on him. "I want to know the story inside."
"This..."
Franworth hesitated for a moment, then patted his head, took a letter out of his pocket and handed it to Heather: "I almost forgot the most important thing. This is Rella left for you. Everything you want to know should be in there."
Before Heather could respond, he handed Heather a long bunch of keys and explained, "These are the keys to the manor, inside and out. Rella is very particular about privacy and security. The electronic password is 0819."
Seeing Heather take the keychain and still look at him, Franworth awkwardly looked away, took out another business card from his pocket, and handed it to Heather: "This is my business card. You can call me if you need anything. A professional accountant will sort out your assets later. Remember to read Rella's letter."
"I have something to do right now."
Seeing Franworth's evasive answers, Heather became even more certain that there was a big problem and invited, "Why don't you come in with me and we can have a good talk?"
"No!"
Franworth glanced at the manor, a hint of fear flashing in his eyes, and instinctively dismissed the idea.
Realizing his tone had been too abrupt, he awkwardly added, "I have other things to do; I already made an appointment..."
"Mr. Franworth, you're my grandmother's good friend, aren't you?"
Heather looked sad and vulnerable.
"Uh, yes."
Franworth could only nod.
"My grandmother has passed away."
In that instant, Heather was completely immersed in the situation, not because of the normal death of her grandmother whom she had never met, but because of the cruel reality that her biological mother had died tragically at the feet of her adoptive parents. She looked at Franworth with teary eyes.
"I have no relatives or friends here, and only you can help me now."
Heather was already very beautiful, and with her eyes brimming with tears, even a normal man would find it hard to resist, not to mention that Franworth did indeed know the inside story and was Heather's grandmother's lawyer and friend for many years.
"Well."
Franworth sighed, "You are not alone..."
"What?"
Heather was startled.
She just wanted to get information out of him, but she didn't expect to get such shocking news. Did she still have relatives alive?
"But perhaps you prefer solitude."
Franworth glanced at the manor. "Some things are better left unknown than known."
"The truth is the truth, and you can't fake it."
Heather said firmly, "I want to know everything. I hope you can tell me. I can handle it."
"All right."
Franworth stared at Heather for a moment, and seeing her resolute determination, he had no choice but to say helplessly, "If you insist, I can tell you everything I know. It all started more than twenty years ago..."
It turns out that the Sawyer Family has lived here for generations. More than 20 years ago, one of Heather's cousins was mentally challenged but exceptionally strong. He had a passion for killing people with chainsaws, which led to people frequently disappearing from the town.
The townspeople had long suspected that this was related to the Sawyer Family, but they were helpless due to a lack of evidence.
One day, a young woman ran out of Sawyer family covered in blood. From her, we learned that her companions had been brutally murdered.
Upon receiving the news, the townspeople quickly gathered a group and drove to Sawyer family's Sawyer family, surrounding it. Ignoring the fact that the sheriff, who arrived first, had already persuaded Sawyer family to hand over the murderer, they threw flaming bottles at Sawyer family 'Sawyer family, setting it on fire.
Then the Sawyer family was massacred by gunfire.
Heather's mother ran out carrying the baby. She hadn't been burned to death, but she lay dying by the roadside, begging for help from Heather's foster mother who saw her.
Heather's adoptive mother had been unable to conceive and desperately wanted a child of her own. Upon seeing Heather as an infant, she was overjoyed and called over her husband, who was still searching nearby for any remaining babies.
Upon seeing this, Heather's adoptive father immediately understood his wife's meaning. He pretended to agree, stepped forward, hugged little Heather, and then kicked Heather's mother to death on the head.
The two hid little Heather in their car and then went to join the butchers' revelry.
They all looked like they had won a great victory. Some were holding chainsaws, and some were even holding someone's severed leg from the Sawyer family. They took many photos with great excitement.
The Sawyer family was burned to the ground, but the real cause of the tragedy was that Heather's cousin, who liked to kill people with chainsaws, was locked in the basement and survived.
Heather's grandmother, who was away, also escaped the disaster and rebuilt Sawyer Manor on the site after returning home.
More than 20 years later, just a few weeks ago, she passed away due to illness.
"When Rella returned that year, she investigated everything and found you immediately. But because you were safer staying there, she has only kept an eye on you silently all these years and has not disturbed you."
Franworth sighed, "I think if possible, she wouldn't want you to come back, but there was nothing she could do. She died of illness, and your cousin still needs someone to take care of him in the manor's basement."
Seeing Heather lost in thought and silent, Franworth thought she was frightened and comforted her, "Your cousin knows you, so don't be afraid. In fact, when Rella was seriously ill and took me to see him, he was also afraid of me. He has the mental capacity of an eight-year-old and needs someone to take care of him."
"This is a massacre!"
After a long silence, Heather growled, suppressing her anger. "Why is nobody doing anything?! My grandmother has the financial means to rebuild the estate and farm, and she has a lawyer like you, so why aren't you suing them?!"
"Well."
Franworth smiled wryly. "Kid, this is Texas..."
