The Channing Family's Eldest Daughter
MAX Diner.
"Hehe."
After Peter left, Monica took the check he left as a tip and couldn't help but smile.
"What's wrong?"
Adam asked curiously.
"Take a look."
Monica handed the check to Adam: "He's really funny."
"Wow, a $20,000 tip, he's really rich."
Adam took it and saw Peter's number and the number 20,000 written on it, and couldn't help but whistle.
"He must be joking."
Monica waved her hand.
"That's not necessarily true."
Adam waved the check. "At the very least, this check should be cashable; it just depends on whether you want to or not."
"What?"
Monica was stunned, and asked incredulously, "You mean this check is real?"
"It is illegal to issue bad checks."
Adam pointed out, "Didn't you notice that his attire was understated, elegant, and sophisticated? He's obviously a wealthy man."
"So what does he mean?"
Monica's face darkened instantly. "What do you take me for?"
"Don't blame him, look at what you're wearing..."
Adam was about to make a comment when he suddenly sensed a murderous aura. He quickly leaned back tactically to dodge Monica's pink projectile and said with a forced smile, "I was just kidding."
As he spoke, he handed her back a menacing pink prop. "You're still at work. If the boss sees this, he'll dock your pay."
Monica angrily took it, stuffed it into her clothes, and instantly they were symmetrical.
"He's being very cunning."
Adam quickly changed the subject. "Think about it, he must know you're not that kind of woman, that's why he wrote down such a large sum of money as a tip. He figured you wouldn't cash it in, but would come to him to ask for clarification, and then you'd meet again, and you wouldn't be wearing this again then, right?"
"Are all rich people this bad?"
Monica accepted Adam's speculation and was secretly pleased, but she pretended to still be angry.
Unfortunately, the person sitting in front of her was a true drama queen.
Adam glanced at her sideways, pretending to tear the check, and teased, "Yeah, rich people are the worst. We absolutely can't fall for it. I'll tear it up for you..."
"Don't!"
Monica snatched it away, and seeing Adam looking at her, she said guiltily, "I'll cash it in after work, and that'll make him furious."
"Good idea."
Adam gave a thumbs up.
If this continues, Monica might really stop seeing Peter and start chasing after him, demanding he introduce her to a boyfriend. That would be a real headache.
The next day.
Morning run time.
Adam knocked on the door of 520 Apartment.
"Come in."
Monica, thinking they were looking for her, said to Adam, "Wait a minute."
"I'm looking for Rachel."
Adam walked straight to Rachel's bedroom door.
Knock knock knock.
"Rachel."
Who is it?
Rachel's dazed, slightly angry shout came from the bedroom.
Compared to Monica's diligence, even after three years away from home, Miss Rachel still couldn't shake her lazy nature, and her grumpiness about sleeping in remained unchanged.
"It's me, Adam. I need your help."
Adam laughed.
"What kind of help?!"
Upon hearing that it was Adam, Rachel suppressed some of her anger and shouted without opening her eyes.
Do you want to go shopping?
As soon as Adam finished speaking, the bedroom door opened, and Rachel, dressed in her pajamas, stared intently at him. "Shopping, sure!"
Where is there even a trace of sleepiness or morning grumpiness?
"Cough cough."
Adam glanced at Rachel's pajamas and couldn't help but remind her, "Rachel, you should at least be more careful with your clothes!"
What's wrong with that?
Rachel glanced at the two obvious smudges and said dismissively, "Who sleeps in that? Tell me, what shopping?"
You shouldn't wear it to bed, but I haven't seen you wear it when you're not sleeping either.
Adam was inwardly cursing.
It seems that after Rachel started dating Ross, she became more and more casual about this, and later on she was basically always seen with makeup on, I don't know what's going on...
"There's a big party next week, and I need to bring Max with me."
Adam suppressed his inner complaints and explained, "But Max has never attended one before, doesn't have a dress, and doesn't know any of the precautions, so I'd like you to take her to buy some clothes and shoes, help her get dressed up, and explain some of the details of these kinds of parties."
"Of course, no problem."
Rachel casually asked, "Whose party?"
"Caroline Channing's Coming-of-Age Party"
Adam's smile was somewhat strange.
"Caroline Channing?!"
Rachel and Monica exclaimed in unison, "Martin Channing's daughter, the heiress of that billionaire family?"
"You all know her?"
Adam smiled.
Are you kidding me?
Rachel exclaimed excitedly, "That's the eldest daughter of the Channing family! A darling of the fashion world! A true darling of heaven! Who in the entire United States doesn't know her?"
"I heard she has $800 million in her personal trust!"
Monica chimed in, "OMG! I can't even imagine how rich they are!"
How did you get invited?
Rachel suddenly looked at Adam with a puzzled expression.
"..."
Adam's lips twitched, and he said with a stern face, "Why can't I be invited? Are you looking down on me?"
No, no.
Rachel said no, but the suspicion in her eyes still lingered. "It's just that the eldest daughter of the Channing family's coming-of-age ceremony. The guests are definitely billionaires, or at least half-billionaires. Do you have that much money?"
"They are not necessarily all super-rich."
Monica added, "Top socialites are also invited; perhaps Adam was invited because of his status as a well-known author?"
That explanation is reasonable and half right, but why were you so hesitant?
"Yes."
Adam nodded and said, "Caroline is one of my book fans, which is why she took the initiative to invite me."
"So that's how it is."
Rachel and Monica looked at Adam with a sudden realization, their eyes filled with envy. But what annoyed Adam was that Rachel's eyes also held a hint of 'you're lucky' in them.
"So, it's true? You're really going to attend Miss Channing family's coming-of-age ceremony?"
Rachel murmured.
"Ah!!!!"
Before Adam could answer, Rachel screamed, her voice like the sound of fingernails scratching a blackboard.
"Take me there, Adam, take me there, please?"
Rachel hugged Adam tightly, clinging to Adam like a dancer, and pleaded.
"You want to go?"
Adam smiled.
"Think!"
Not only Rachel, but Monica also looked smitten.
It's clear how alluring the Watson of the upper class is to young women; this phenomenon isn't unique to East Country.
"You really want to?"
Adam asked another question.
"I really want to."
Rachel gave the final answer directly.
"I'm sorry, I already have a girlfriend."
Adam pushed Rachel away, giving her a helpless look.
Just think about it.
The more Adam wanted it, the more satisfying it was to refuse.
That'll teach you a lesson for looking down on me earlier.
