Sugar Daddy
Duncan Apartment.
late at night.
"Holy shit!"
Max used all his strength, shoving Adam away with his hands and feet, and shouted, "I was just kidding, you really don't treat me like a human being?"
"I am an honest man."
Adam withdrew his supernatural powers, lay down beside him, and laughed, "Whatever you say goes, absolutely no exceptions."
"Livestock!"
MAX was completely moved by Adam's admiring gaze, and he cursed bitterly, "With the way you are, it seems that you are going to join the Mormon Church in the future, otherwise anyone who marries you will suffer. It's so perverted."
The Mormon Church is a religious sect in the United States that advocates polygamy and various forms of promiscuity, making it resemble a cult.
"Not interested."
Adam said lazily, "That's the wrong path, not the right one."
"You're not a heretic?"
MAX retorted sarcastically, "I think you prefer taking the crooked path!"
"Hehe."
Adam smiled but didn't reply, changing the subject instead. "MAX, what about the thing I told you about going to university for further studies? What have you thought about?"
"Not very good."
MAX said unhappily.
She felt a little uncomfortable when this topic was brought up.
She dreams of becoming an illustrator of children's books.
But for her, a dream is a dream because it is out of reach.
She specifically enrolled in a community college to study painting, mainly to experience her dream and get closer to it.
But to be honest, she never thought about actually pursuing her dream, or even dared to hope to achieve it.
Even the thought of taking big strides toward her dream fills her with a strange sense of panic.
"Tell me about it."
Adam turned to look at her. "What are you worried about?"
"I have too many things to worry about."
As always, MAX started with a lewd remark. "You brothers are ranked first."
"Yeah?"
Adam laughed and said, "Then hurry up and confess, or your worries will become a reality."
MAX rolled his eyes, paused for a moment, and gave a self-deprecating laugh, "Maybe I'm just a coward. Whenever things are going well, I feel like it's not real. I always feel like when I wake up tomorrow, something unexpected will happen, and these changes are never good."
"I see."
Adam nodded.
This is also a stress response mechanism, a form of self-protection.
If you don't think about good things, you won't be disappointed or even desperate when bad things happen.
"So, what kind of unexpected event do you think meeting me was?"
Adam laughed and asked, "Good, or bad?"
"Half and half."
MAX complained, "The area under the bed is good, but the area on the bed is bad."
"..."
Adam was speechless, realizing that he had been a bit too lenient with Max, but he couldn't be entirely blamed for it, since she kept making lewd jokes to provoke him.
Like tonight, she took the initiative to ask Adam to do whatever he wanted; she was fine with anything.
What could Adam do?
It's truly casual.
No one is lucky all the time, and no one is unlucky all the time.
Adam hugged Max and poured out some inspirational words. "Maybe you were unlucky before, but I have a feeling that from now on, you're going to be lucky."
"Because of meeting you?"
MAX laughed.
"Right."
Adam said earnestly, "Perhaps I am your lucky star, what do you think?"
"Lucky Star".
Max muttered something, pressed his face against Adam's chest, and smiled noncommittally, "Maybe."
"So".
Adam got back to the point. "Do you have any other concerns? You can tell me anything."
"Tuition fees, I guess."
Unable to resist Adam's enthusiasm, Max began to reveal some of his thoughts. "Community college tuition is already so high, let alone regular universities. The key is that even if you can get into university, you may not be able to find a suitable job after graduation. Aren't there enough down-on-their-luck painters?"
The cost of community college tuition is relative.
Compared to regular universities, community college tuition is naturally much lower.
However, for someone like Max who was working as a waiter while studying, the tuition was still too high.
If attending community college is about paying to get closer to your dreams, Max can barely afford to splurge a little, but the cost of attending a regular university is something she can't afford.
Furthermore, employment after graduating from university is also a major issue.
This kind of major, which is full of artistic flair, is a typical example of graduates being unemployed immediately after graduation.
Most graduates cannot find jobs in their major and end up having to switch careers, which is a huge waste of the professional skills they have learned at great expense.
Although Max is only 19 years old, he is already a seasoned veteran who knows the hardships of life, and naturally he would not naively believe that all down-on-their-luck painters are just unappreciated talents.
After all, having talent is like being pregnant; it will eventually come out eventually.
The widespread decline in their circumstances is clearly not something that can be explained by simply being talented but not appreciated; rather, it's because the industry's capacity is limited and insufficient to support too many people on this path.
In this situation, lacking confidence, she wouldn't have the illusion that she would definitely become one of the successful few, so how could she not have the urge to give up?
"So you're lucky to have met me."
Adam laughed and said, "Tuition and employment are not problems, and in fact, they are both problems. The reason you are worried is because you are not confident that you can use the knowledge you have learned to find a suitable job to pay off your student loans, right?"
"Isn't it obvious?"
MAX complained.
"What if I booked the job for you in advance?"
Adam had already thought about this problem and confidently said, "You just need to go to university to further your studies, learn and improve your skills. Once you graduate, a well-paying job in your field will be waiting for you. So why are you worried?"
What kind of job?
MAX was somewhat tempted.
"An illustrator of children's books."
Adam laughed and said, "Isn't this the job you've always dreamed of?"
"Real?"
MAX exclaimed in surprise, then, as if remembering something, his mood soured, and he shook his head, saying, "Forget it, you'll probably be the one to beg, right? Let's not."
"It's better to rely on yourself than on others."
Adam laughed and said, "You know I'm a writer, right? I have an idea that I want to bring to life, and I need an illustrator's help. I'll provide the text, and you'll be responsible for drawing it. We'll work together to create a high-quality children's book, how about that?"
"I'm already like this, I'm out of new tricks, you don't need to coax me anymore."
MAX scoffed, "If you're really inspired, why don't you find someone else to draw it? Those people are better than me, and you can hire them now. Why wait until I graduate from university?"
"First of all, this is just an idea. Good works need time to be polished, and two years is just right. Secondly, when hiring help, loyalty is also important, and I trust you more."
Adam, with a straight face, spouted nonsense. "Of course, I don't deny that I wanted to help you. That's not contradictory. We're good friends, so it's normal for us to help each other within our means."
"This is beyond what friends can do to help each other."
Max pushed Adam's hand away, stood up, and looked at Adam: "Do you want to be my sugar daddy?"
P. S.: I got back late, but I rushed to write a chapter. I have to go out later, so that's all for today. Sorry, I'll update 5 chapters tomorrow.
