The True Colors of a Scumbag
Boston.
Near Harvard University.
Inside an apartment building.
"Tsk tsk."
Adam and Max followed Juno into the house, and their eyes lit up with amazement.
This apartment is about the same size as Adam's, both having two bedrooms and a living room, but it feels completely different.
Adam's is definitely a studio apartment.
Although he didn't deliberately display Liu Bei series DVDs on a bookshelf like Spaniard Stinson did in "How I Met Your Mother," it clearly reflected his status as a first-rate single person.
But anyone who looks at it will know it's a studio apartment.
Juno and Karen's place felt completely like home.
"You guys live a very refined life."
"You can do it too."
Juno smiled and said, "On the condition that you want to."
"Hehe."
Adam smiled without saying a word.
Life is good, but that's something you do after you've seen all the world's splendor.
He hasn't had enough yet.
He and Max flew to Boston, having naturally notified Juno in advance, so Juno picked them up as soon as they landed.
"Hi, Karen."
"Um."
When Adam saw Karen bringing over tea, Adam quickly greeted her.
Thank you.
MAX quickly thanked him.
"You're welcome."
Karen didn't smile at Adam, but she smiled at Max.
That night, Adam and Max didn't go to the hotel; they stayed in their guest room instead.
While Karen was helping Max pack, Juno gave Adam a wink, and the two went out for a walk.
"They've got a new person again."
Juno joked, "As always, you've become even more magnanimous."
"No way."
Adam laughed and said, "It's a coincidence that we met. Actually, I'm not picky."
"Yes, you like anything that's pretty."
Juno grumbled, "MAX is pretty good. How come all the good girls seem to come to you?"
Are you bragging?
Adam retorted.
"Of course not."
Juno said with a half-smile, "I'm not exactly a good girl."
"Yes, for me!"
Adam looked at Juno and said seriously.
"Hehe."
Juno and Adam exchanged a glance and smiled at each other.
Friendship is a rather mysterious thing.
Acquaintances, friends, good friends, best buddies—the levels progress in stages.
The longer you've been in a relationship, the better the feelings become, but at most you can only advance to the level of good friends. If you want to become best buddies, the most important thing is whether you click with them.
According to American TV shows, you can only have one best friend or one best buddy.
The woman is the chief bridesmaid, and the man is the chief groomsman.
For example, Sheldon and Leonard, Howard and Rajesh, Penny and Amy, Marshall and Ted.
Barney, is most eager to claim the title of best buddy, and often gets jealous when Ted says Marshall is his best buddy.
Because often, the bond between close friends transcends the realm of friendship; like romantic love, it can evolve into kinship, making them another family member.
Did the nickname "Papa Len" come out of nowhere?
When Penny married him, the final embrace of the ceremony wasn't a normal embrace between newlyweds; it was accompanied by a strange husband and a strange son, Sheldon.
Definitely a family of three.
Rajesh couldn't stand being single and wanted to get married, so he had to leave. Howard rushed to the airport and stopped Rajesh. In the end, Rajesh chose Howard and gave up his marriage partner.
The couple's warm embrace was seen as 'true love' by onlookers, who applauded and congratulated them.
Amy is worried that Rajesh and Howard will sleep together before she and Sheldon.
After Bernadette and Howard got married, whenever Howard tried to apologize carefully, she would occasionally blurt out, "Are you having an affair with Rajesh behind my back?"
Although it was all in jest, their relationship definitely goes beyond that of good friends; they're best buddies for life.
Nothing could stop them from being together, not even women.
If Adam's system weren't so terrible, and if it had a friendship level indicator, Adam believes there would be quite a few people in the "good friends" section.
But the "best buddies" category is either empty, or Juno is definitely in it.
This stems from the fondness and affinity I felt for Fruit Hard Candy in a past life, as well as the tacit understanding that has developed through long-term interaction in this life.
"Seriously."
Juno laughed and said, "MAX is great, but I prefer Heather. It's a shame she chose to stay in Texas."
"Well."
Adam sighed.
He felt the same way as Juno.
Max is indeed very good, but he still prefers Heather.
Of course, their starting points were different.
Juno liked Heather's personality and temperament, while Adam simply preferred Heather's looks and figure.
Of all the women Adam had intimate relationships with, Heather had the highest overall score in terms of looks and figure.
"You can go visit her when you have time."
Juno suddenly said.
"What?"
Adam was taken aback.
"Karen and I have been to her estate farm."
Juno laughed.
"You went?"
Adam frowned and looked at Juno with a puzzled expression.
"I've gone."
Juno said meaningfully, "It's inconvenient for her to leave, but you can take some time to visit her. She's had a tough time, and I know she only has you in her heart."
Adam fell silent for a long while before sighing, "Is she alright? She said I'm not suited to go there, nor can I leave..."
"It is not suitable for permanent residence."
Juno explained, "It's fine to visit occasionally. I trust she can arrange it. Besides, Karen and I can go with you, just like we used to do when we went hunting and vacationed in the Cabin in the Woods. The four of us together, there's nothing to worry about."
"Are you sure?"
Adam looked intently at Juno.
"I'm sure."
Juno and Adam looked at each other directly.
"All right."
Adam nodded. "If Heather is willing."
"Of course she'd like to."
Juno affirmed.
"Do you think I'm a pretty jerk?"
Adam thought of MAX, then hesitated.
"Huh? Why would you ask such a question?"
Juno seemed not to recognize Adam at all, her gaze strange. "Haven't you always been like this? Back in high school, weren't you two-timing me? You don't think I didn't know, do you? No way, no way?"
"..."
Adam's lips twitched, speechless.
"I know you're a decent person."
Juno put her arm around Adam's shoulder and laughed, "It's not like you have to go to Heather's place all the time. Just come with us to see her every now and then. As long as you stick to your word and don't do anything that would tarnish your respectable status, that's fine, isn't it?"
Seeing that Adam didn't want to talk, she laughed and said, "Besides, I don't think you and Max will last long. We can just take advantage of your empty bed period. That way you won't be a typical scumbag, but an atypical scumbag."
Why can't things between Max and me last longer?
Adam protested.
"Come on~"
Juno also adopted Barney's classic tone and expression of urging people to tell the truth.
However, she didn't imitate Barney; she imitated Adam.
Adam opened his mouth, but couldn't utter a word of explanation...
