Stay Away from Me
Night falls.
A writers' gathering organized by Random House is currently underway.
"You guys have so many parties."
Max, holding Adam's hand, said sarcastically, "Are you all just bored?"
"That's true."
Adam chuckled softly, "So-called networking is nothing more than bragging, bluffing, and boasting. Besides, writers often only publish one book every few years, with very little actual writing time. The rest of the time is spent getting inspiration, collecting materials, and conceiving plots. And inspiration, well, that's a different story!"
"I know that."
MAX retorted sarcastically, "The muse of an artist, only a goddess can give you enough inspiration. One goddess, one work, just like you."
"Cough cough."
Adam coughed lightly and said speechlessly, "How did this involve me again? We weren't talking about other people."
"You are now releasing Lord of the Mysteries Part IV: The Undead."
MAX rolled his eyes at Adam: "The first one was written when you graduated from high school. I heard that you and a girl named Jennifer were studying Transformers every day back then."
The second book was written during your freshman year of college. I heard that you were doing charity work with a girl named Caroline at the time.
The third book was written during your sophomore and junior years of college. I heard that you and a girl named Heather often went hunting together at that time.
Now you and I are together, and we've written the fourth book.
"It's not what you think..."
Adam's lips twitched. Meeting Max's 'I see right through you' gaze, he couldn't utter a word of explanation. He said resentfully, "Was it Karen was talking badly about me behind my back?"
Is that true?
MAX countered with a question.
"Of course not."
Adam shook his head without hesitation and said, "It's just a coincidence! Yes! It's just a coincidence!"
"You said the same thing to me before."
MAX, with his sharp tongue and lewd remarks, said, "I remember you recited a line from East Country poem, something like, 'What was it again? Do you think I should believe you?'"
"That's different."
Adam smiled wryly and said, "Okay, I admit that the previous events were not coincidences, but the Muse and all that was just a coincidence. I never thought about these things. In fact, I had already finished the story of the Lord of the Mysteries in my mind. I didn't need any Muse to give me inspiration."
"Are you saying I can't inspire you and am unworthy to be your muse?"
Max tightened his grip on Adam's arm and twisted his body slightly.
"Well."
Adam suddenly didn't want to talk anymore.
"Hehe."
MAX chuckled.
Adam suddenly realized and complained, "MAX, you've gone bad. Be careful Karen doesn't turn you gay."
"Straight or curved, I'm fine with either."
MAX Experienced Women Dao.
"Adam ~"
Just as the two were laughing and joking, a familiar voice rang out, making Adam's heart tighten. He looked in the direction of the voice and cursed inwardly, "It really is you!"
"Amy."
"Adam, it's been a long time."
Amazing Amy's eyes were like water, as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
"Yes."
Adam nodded, not bothering to reminisce with her, and pulled MAX in front of him. He subtly nudged MAX's waist with one hand and introduced her, "This is MAX. MAX, this is my high school classmate Amy Dunn."
"Hello."
MAX immediately understood when he was nudged from behind, straightened his back, pulled in his stomach, and greeted her with a smile.
"Hello."
Amazing Amy's smile froze. She glanced at the imposing MAXAM and narrowed her eyes.
"Just alumni?"
Amazing Amy quickly composed herself and said quietly.
"She's still my ex-girlfriend."
Adam frowned and reminded him, "Unfortunately, I got dumped back then."
"I had no choice at the time."
Amazing Amy looked sad. "After all, I'm coming here to go to college, while you're only in high school. Texas is so far from Harvard University, long-distance relationships are very painful."
"You're right."
Adam nodded. "Long-distance relationships are impossible. It's impossible for us to have a long-distance relationship in this lifetime."
At this point, he chuckled and said, "By the way, how are you doing in Boston?"
"That's it."
Amazing Amy's eyes lit up. "I heard you studied in New York and even published Lord of the Mysteries. Congratulations! I didn't expect you to become a well-known author. New York is a great place. My parents have been discussing moving New York recently, and it seems like their idea is very good."
"That depends on the person. New York is indeed big, but it's not suitable for everyone."
MAX puffed out his chest again. "Big has its advantages, and small has its advantages. The key is to find the right fit. For example, Adam likes big things, so he's used to living in New York."
Depend on!
I'm right here, do you think I'm dead?!
MAX is full of fighting spirit, a pair of Aces, crushing them, completely unbeatable.
Amazing Amy glanced at Max, her eyes extremely cold.
MAX felt a chill run down his spine, and instinctively withdrew his aggressively puffed-out chest.
"Adam, would you like to talk to me alone?"
Amazing Amy stunned Max with a single glance and extended an invitation to Adam.
"Alright."
Adam thought about it. Although he wasn't afraid of her, he didn't want to provoke her. It was best to clarify things first.
"MAX, wait for me."
"Um."
Max grabbed Adam's arm and whispered, "Come back soon."
After Adam and Amazing Amy left the hall and went to the garden, MAX watched their retreating figures and chuckled to himself, "Damn! What's wrong with me? I've been around for so long, I've seen it all, and I was scared by just one look from her. Damn it! How embarrassing!"
In the garden.
What do you want to do?
Adam laid his cards on the table, too lazy to play games with the Amazing Amy.
"I think we can start over."
Amazing Amy gazed at Adam with deep affection. "I was wrong back then, and I can make it up to you, but my feelings for you have never changed, and I believe you feel the same way..."
"Hehe."
Adam smiled, suppressing his sarcasm, and looked directly at the Amazing Amy, saying calmly, "Let bygones be bygones. We're all adults, let's not talk about fairy tales, okay?"
"You're still blaming me."
Amazing Amy said with self-reproach, "I understand you, but I believe we are the most suitable couple. There were so many people in the school back then, why did I choose you, a junior who was four years younger than me? And you just happen to have a talent for writing? It must be fate!"
"That wasn't fate, nor was it any writing talent; it was this face!"
Adam pointed to his face, frowning, and said, "I heard from Juno that you are an outstanding graduate of the psychology department, and I also have a bachelor's degree in psychology, so can we stop playing these psychological games? What exactly are you trying to do? Rekindle old flames? A backup plan? A control freak? Sorry, I have no interest in any of that."
"You really haven't forgotten me."
Amazing Amy's expression changed, then her eyes flashed, and she smiled, "Otherwise, why would you be paying so much attention to me?"
Do you know why I'm paying attention to you?
Adam's eyes turned cold.
Amazing Amy just smiled and didn't reply.
Adam realized that even after he had been so blunt, she still wanted to pester him, so he laid his cards on the table. "That's because I want to make sure you stay far away from me!"
