Doctor House
Medical Center.
Adam came up with a solution, which was approved by Dr. Shepherd, and the news that he would be joining the advanced neurosurgery that afternoon spread rapidly throughout the hospital.
The surgical interns who had just begun studying Katie's medical records and were ready to make a big splash were all stunned when they heard the news.
Even for these cultured individuals, only a single "Holy crap!" could express their immediate feelings.
Green Clinic.
"Well done!"
Leonard naturally received the news as well, and at noon, he called Adam over with a big smile.
It's no secret who got into the hospital through connections and who's on whose side.
For example, the Chief of Surgery's incompetent brother-in-law works in the hospital's administrative department and has embarrassed the Chief of Surgery quite a bit.
But out of Chief of Surgery, everyone in the hospital turned a blind eye; as long as it wasn't too outrageous, no one would say anything.
Although Adam's relationship with Leonard wasn't as obvious as that of the Chief of Surgery's brother-in-law, Adam was undoubtedly Leonard's man.
When problems arise, people will naturally criticize Leonard for nepotism.
But if Adam is exceptionally talented, it would also be a great boost to Leonard's reputation.
"Burke is probably going to get angry again."
Leonard laughed gleefully.
"Why?"
Adam was puzzled.
"Shepherd was once a famous doctor in Boston."
Leonard smiled and explained, "Why did he come to the Medical Center?"
"Family reasons?"
Adam casually remarked, "Or is it for career reasons?"
I don't know if there are any family reasons.
Leonard laughed and said, "But Richard will be retiring in a few years."
"You mean Dr. Shepherd is here to compete for the Chief of Surgery?"
Adam suddenly realized. "Dr. Burke was originally the only candidate for the next Chief of Surgery, but now a formidable opponent has suddenly appeared, and this formidable opponent has successfully solved a difficult case..."
"Guess who invited Shepherd?"
Leonard's expression was playful.
"Chief of Surgery!"
Adam blurted it out.
"Right!"
Leonard exclaimed in admiration, "Adam, how did you guess that?"
"Only a few people could invite Dr. Shepherd: the Chief of Surgery, the hospital director, and members of the hospital's board of directors."
Adam analyzed, "I haven't had much contact with the hospital director and board members, but I can tell that the Chief of Surgery is not someone who delegates authority easily."
I've heard that Dr. Burke's prestige has grown significantly in recent years, and everyone thinks he'll be the next Chief of Surgery, a thought he himself shares. But the Chief of Surgery still has several years until retirement.
"Retire?"
Leonard scoffed, "The hospital and surgery are everything to him. He can control everything here. He can't stand this huge difference after retirement. I bet he can't even bear the thought of it."
I think by then Burke will have retired, or maybe he won't. As long as his health permits and the board doesn't force him to retire, he can keep working indefinitely.
"That's why he invited Dr. Shepherd over, so that he and Dr. Burke could compete and check each other, thus making his position more secure."
Adam understood.
This routine has been repeated countless times between emperors, crown princes, and other princes over thousands of years.
"But isn't Dr. Burke one of the chief's men?"
Adam was still somewhat confused.
"Shepherd is also one of Richard's men."
Leonard explained, "Richard mentored him, and they were very close."
Adam nodded.
Both are on our side, so no matter who gets the position, it's a win-win situation within the family, perfectly fitting the power structure of the emperor, crown prince, and princes.
"Leaving aside Burke's frustration, this opportunity is certainly rare."
Leonard smiled and said, "Shepherd is a renowned Neurosurgery. You'll definitely learn a lot from this advanced surgery, and it will be even more natural for me to involve you in more major surgeries in the future."
"I will try my best."
Adam laughed.
The two chatted for a while longer, mainly listening to Leonard talk about the complex power dynamics within the hospital.
Before leaving, Adam suddenly remembered something and asked, "Dr. Shepherd said I look a lot like someone, Leonard. Do you know who it is?"
"Like a person?"
Leonard was taken aback. After asking about the situation in detail, he blurted out, "Dr. House!"
"Dr. House?"
Adam asked in surprise, "You mean that famous Dr. House?"
"Right."
Leonard nodded. "He is the head of the diagnostics department at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey next door. He is good at reasoning. His diagnostics department has a budget of $3 million a year and he has hired three elite doctors who can work independently to solve difficult and complicated cases."
Any single case study, with a little writing, can become a substantial medical paper. After completing the program, a senior Attending Physician head at another hospital, making it a dream training ground for many doctors.
What are the requirements for further study?
Adam was somewhat tempted.
"Interns and residents who do odd jobs are fine, as are Attending Physician can work independently."
Leonard laughed and said, "It all depends on Dr. House's interests. He's always been a bit eccentric, but someone as outstanding as you would probably get in if you applied. However, I don't recommend you do that."
"Why?"
Adam asked curiously, "Is there something wrong with this?"
He knew that if there were no problems, Leonard wouldn't be able to stop him from getting this opportunity.
"Of course there's a problem."
Leonard laughed and said, "Dr. House is very capable, but also very eccentric. He is willing to go to any lengths to solve difficult cases, and has taken the case to court many times. He has almost had his medical license revoked several times."
If it weren't for his fame, his status as a living advertisement for the hospital, and the fact that the hospital director was a close friend of his, he would have been fired long ago. Even so, Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital provides him with $50,000 in legal fees every year, ready to represent him in court at any time.
We often marvel at how incredibly Dr. House was, truly blessed by God. Otherwise, any other doctor who had done what he did would have been finished in no time.
Upon hearing this, Adam immediately abandoned his idea of studying under Dr. House.
With his abilities and the platform Leonard provided, he could grow rapidly by following the established path. There was absolutely no need for him to risk having his medical license revoked for such advanced training.
According to Leonard, this Dr. House was clearly being treated like a protagonist.
Although Adam is also a protagonist, he dares not gamble on how strong his Protagonist's Luck really is until his life is captured and recorded in a film or television series.
As for not seeing himself as the main character, but just hanging around with the 'main character' Dr. House?
Don't be ridiculous. No matter how strong the protagonist's luck halo is, it only covers the protagonist himself. Most of the people who get hurt by the protagonist's mischief are the people around him.
The risks and rewards are completely disproportionate; only a madman like Adam would study under such a 'protagonist'.
Even if Dr. House incredibly talented, I won't consider him.
