After saying goodbye to Meredith, the upside-down little cow, Adam headed to the emergency department.
"Dr. Duncan."
The nurse handed Adam a medical chart. "Four visits in three months. Something seems wrong."
Adam looked up. The patient was an adorable little girl of five or six, but there was a frightening wound on her lower leg.
"Notify child protective services and talk to her parents."
After giving the instruction, Adam took the chart and walked over. "I'm Dr. Duncan."
"I'm Megan Clover. It's not as bad as it looks."
The little girl spoke up directly, bypassing her parents with remarkable maturity.
"She fell at the playground. There was a lot of blood, and the wound was deep."
Her mother stroked the girl's head.
"We know the injury looks terrible. She can be a little rough when she plays..."
Her father looked embarrassed. "This is her medical history, including records from before we got her."
