After Anna came clean, Adam began taking her through a full range of examinations.
"Adam, tell me this isn't true!"
While Anna was undergoing an MRI, Dr. Montgomery, having received the news, came looking for him.
"I'm sorry, but it's true."
Adam pointed at Anna lying in the MRI Room and sighed. "See her? Mr. Deakin injected her with chloral hydrate and nearly had her buried alive. There may have been over a hundred cases like hers."
"No!"
Dr. Montgomery covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face, unable to accept the outcome.
"When Mr. Deakin was arrested, he didn't deny it. He directly explained his philosophy. He didn't think he'd done anything wrong—he only believed he was clearing away The Walking Dead."
Adam shook his head. "That was the real reason he never accepted other women all these years. His crimes required secrecy, and loneliness was excellent cover."
"No!" Dr. Montgomery cried. "I could feel his love for me. He didn't lie to me!"
"Perhaps." Adam reminded her, "But that doesn't matter anymore. He's now a super serial psychopathic killer. The police are currently exhuming graves in the cemetery behind his funeral home to verify it.
"If there are over a hundred victims in his cemetery who were buried alive and died horribly, then as a doctor, you should know what being buried alive is like. At that point, do you think whether there were feelings between you still matters?
"I suggest you take some leave and get some rest..."
Dr. Montgomery covered her mouth and hurried away.
Adam sighed.
What terrible luck!
Who would have thought Mr. Deakin, with those thick brows and righteous-looking eyes, would turn out to be that kind of person?
"Damn!"
After watching Dr. Montgomery leave, Adam turned back to the scan
