In the blink of an eye, the first 36-hour shift for the new batch of interns had come to an end.
"All right, you can clock out now. Get some proper rest. Just make sure I see you in the hospital at five tomorrow morning."
Adam smiled at the four interns standing before him.
George looked delighted.
Carter let out a breath of relief.
Lexie stole glances at Adam, as though she wanted to say something but held herself back.
Only Shorty raised a hand.
"What is it, Melendez?"
Adam nodded at Shorty.
"Dr. Duncan, I heard you have a study group in the evenings. Can I join?"
Shorty applied, "There are still eleven hours until five tomorrow morning. I don't need that much rest."
"You may not need that much rest, but surely you have a personal life?"
Adam swept his gaze across them with an amused look.
"What's that?"
Shorty said coolly, "Studying medicine is my career and my life!"

George's mouth twitched.
What a pretentious thing to say.
But then he was dumbfounded.
"Me too, Dr. Duncan. Can I join as well?"
Carter and Lexie both raised their hands.
"Is that so..."
Adam put on a thoughtful expression. "Are you sure?"
"Yes! *3!"
Shorty and the other two answered in unison.
As Adam's gaze landed on George, the other three immediately turned to look at him as well.

George gave a bitter smile. "I made plans with Kelly..."
"All right, go ahead."
Adam smiled. "Your career is important, but so is your girlfriend."
"Thank you."
George immediately thanked him, flattered beyond measure.
