Hospital room.
"Mr. Shaw, I'm sorry..."
Adam delivered the devastating news to Erin's father.
"No!"
Unable to accept the outcome, Mr. Shaw let out a cry, clutched his chest, and set off the monitor alarms.
"Code Blue."
Adam immediately stepped forward to resuscitate him.
The man had already been a heart patient, hospitalized while waiting for a transplant. Now, hit by such a massive shock, he suffered an attack on the spot.
Fortunately, Adam was right beside him. After a flurry of work, he successfully brought him back.
"I don't understand. How did this happen?"
After being revived, Mr. Shaw stared blankly for a long while before finally murmuring.
"It was an accident."
Adam had wanted to say it was the fault of some bratty kids, but what came out was merely a vague platitude.
There was no helping it.
Describing the details too vividly would only make people uncomfortable.
Especially in Mr. Shaw's condition, when he could not withstand further stimulation.
And even if he told him, aside from blaming himself and worsening his condition, Mr. Shaw could do nothing else.
He could do nothing about those bratty kids, who had long since run off to who knew where.
Nor did he dare complain to God.
The NYPD probably would not even investigate. And even if they did, even if they found and caught those ten-year-old brats, what then?
It would only make him angrier and more miserable about the final outcome.
Truly, death was random, and life was cheap as grass.
Even Adam shuddered at the thought.
"These things usually happen very quickly."
Lexie could not help adding, "She probably didn't feel much pain."
Aside from tears sliding from the corners of his eyes, Mr. Shaw did not want to say anything at all.
