Medical Center.
Operating Room.
"Let's suffocate for fairy tales together!"
After scrubbing in with Paige, Adam entered the Operating Room, spread his arms for the surgical nurse to help him gown up, and rallied the crowd.
Emmm.
That was right!
He had come clean.
Bad omen or not, so be it.
He might as well take the bad omen to the absolute extreme.
When things reached their worst, they could only turn around!
With that thought, Adam spoke again. "Today, we're one step closer to our crazy dream."
"..."
Everyone exchanged looks.
Only Paige's expression remained unchanged.
To everyone else, Adam was a lofty, righteous, larger-than-life figure.
But Paige knew Adam far too well.
What hadn't she seen?
She had seen more than enough of Adam's twisted sense of humor.
She was already a super genius, and she also understood that true knowledge came from practice, linking theory with reality.
So while she did not understand the references behind these classic jinx lines from the unparalleled King of Jinxes in a future parallel universe, that did not stop her from reading Adam's eyes and tone. She understood at once.
So before the multidimensional counterpart of Captain Marvel's infant form from a parallel spacetime, what could possibly be surprising about saying something marvelous? It was utterly unsurprising!
Lexie had been watching Paige and Adam's interactions. Seeing Paige look so accustomed to it, her gaze immediately dimmed.
That distance between them really stabbed at her heart.
"I don't intend to become a surgical robot in the General Surgery Department. That would be pretty meaningless."
"I never planned to wipe out cancer in one go."
"Let's first set a small goal: redefine the new treatments for Malignant Glioma over the next decade."
"I'm not doing this to win or lose. I'm just serious!"
