"Adam, congratulations."
Meredith congratulated him.
"Thank you."
Adam was in high spirits.
"This is way too outrageous..."
Cristina looked Adam over from every angle. Then, as if recalling something, she said, "The four interns under you can't get bonus points for the results of this research project. That would be too unfair."
"No problem."
Adam nodded with a smile. After thinking for a moment, he took the pink Surgical Holy Grail pager from his pocket, set it on the table, and pushed it toward Cristina.
"Forget it. You can have it."
"What do you mean?"
Cristina frowned.
"The Surgical Holy Grail Competition can't get going anytime soon."
Adam explained, "George's father doesn't have much time left. George definitely can't stay at the hospital all the time. He needs to go back often to visit his father and keep him company during his final days.
"This clinical research project has made a major breakthrough, and the follow-up monitoring and treatment will require even more effort.
"So I need an intern watching over things at all times.
"Someone also needs to handle the outpatient clinic.
"And whenever I operate, someone needs to be with me.
"The four interns will be extremely busy for quite a while. They'll barely have time to sleep, much less participate in the Holy Grail Competition.
"You were right, too. Letting this thing sit around would be a waste. You girls can have it and settle it among yourselves."
"You should have it."
Meredith smiled.
"Damn it!"
Cristina played with the Surgical Holy Grail in her hand for a while before tossing it back to Adam. Dejected, she said, "What was supposed to be an exciting competition has become completely pointless because of you."
"Compared to an achievement like his, everything would feel pointless."
