Vacation
New York University Medical Center.
"This is a ghost!"
Adam stared in disbelief at the man in the suit who turned around, for that face was none other than John Coleman!
"Surprised? Unexpected?"
At that moment, Caroline suddenly appeared and teased.
She clearly knew all along, but deliberately didn't say anything earlier, wanting to see Adam's shocked expression, because many people in the hospital had that same expression when they saw it, including herself.
"What's going on?"
Adam asked a question, and before Caroline could answer, he already guessed the answer, "Twin brothers?"
John is as dead as can be. Even if he were a ghost, he wouldn't appear so openly. The only possibility is that John had a twin brother.
"Right."
Caroline laughed and said, "His name is Luke Coleman, and he's a real estate lawyer."
"I see."
Adam nodded, curiously examining John's twin brother. He noticed that although the twin looked exactly like John and had the same gentle and approachable smile, his eyes were much more lively than John's.
Considering that the other person's profession is a lawyer who argues with everyone and everything for money, while John's profession is a homebody architect, it's not hard to understand this difference.
"They're gone."
Adam looked away and said goodbye to Caroline.
"Call me!"
Caroline reluctantly placed her fingers on her Sheldon, mimicking the gesture of making a phone call. Seeing Adam nod and watching Adam figure disappear at the end of the corridor, she turned back.
At that moment, Luke Coleman, who was in the ward, came out, exchanged a glance with Caroline, smiled at each other, looked away, and left.
Luke Coleman took a few steps, then stopped, turned back to look at Caroline's departing figure, lost in thought...
The next few days.
Compared to Ted and Marshall, who were scratching their heads and cramming all night before the exam, Adam completed his final exams with ease.
Columbia University is a world-class university, and it's not decades from now, so the final exams are still quite difficult, with an average GPA of only 2.8.
Students actually face immense academic pressure.
Because if their grades keep falling behind, they will be asked to drop out, which means they won't be able to graduate from a prestigious university. In order to get into a prestigious university, they gambled their future like gamblers, and incurred huge student loans as a result.
Every year, such tragic life events unfold at prestigious universities.
Decades later, things will change.
Because United States universities are ultimately businesses, the constant occurrence of such personal tragedies can diminish people's courage to risk their future by attending university.
Businesses always strive to satisfy consumers.
As a result, all university exams became easier and easier, average GPAs rapidly inflated, and without the pressure of dropping out, every student felt great about themselves, becoming sunny and confident, partying, fraternities, and having all sorts of fun, as if they had returned to high school.
Until I graduated from university.
Many students cannot even read and understand the textbooks for their own major.
High grades but low ability; learned almost nothing during university.
In contrast, the academic pressure is high enough nowadays that students study hard to avoid being expelled, and most of them will still have a colorful future.
After the final exams, it's winter break.
Adam was also getting ready to go home.
520 Apartment.
"Student days were so much better, now we're on vacation."
Chandler reminisced.
"Yes."
Ross nodded and said, "Do you remember when we used to go out and have fun together during our holidays? Those were the good old days."
"Beautiful times!"
Chandler echoed this sentiment.
Monica pursed her lips.
Phoebe looked on with anticipation.
Joey pouted, frowned, and slowly nodded, looking completely convinced.
None of the three of them went to college...
Because Monica was always overweight, she learned the importance of self-reliance during high school. She was very good at baking cookies, so after graduating from high school, she did not go to college but instead went to learn to be a chef.
Phoebe was left homeless during her teenage years due to a major family tragedy and never had the chance to attend high school.
Joyby's predecessor, PJ, was still a bit silly and cute, dropping out of high school to become an actor.
The three of them, of course, had no sense of resonance with the sentiments expressed by Chandler and Ross, two graduates of prestigious universities.
"Adam, do you have any plans?"
Monica asked curiously, "Go straight back?"
"Right."
Adam smiled and said, "It's been several months since we came here; it's time to go back and visit."
How will you get back?
Phoebe asked, "Do you need me to give you a ride?"
"Adam, of course, took an airplane."
Joey laughed and said, "He's a famous author."
"Thank you, but no need."
Adam thanked Phoebe and explained, "I have some friends who are coming to pick me up, so I'm going back with them. Juno and Karen were the ones who drove me when I first went to report for duty."
"Juno and Karen?! *5!"
Monica and the other four shouted in unison.
Joey, Chandler, Ross chuckled.
"Female classmate or girlfriend?"
Monica's lips twitched; she was clearly still somewhat lusting after Adam's body.
"They're definitely all female students."
Phoebe said.
"A female classmate, and a girlfriend?"
Ross analyzed.
Why can't I have two girlfriends?
Joey chuckled and winked at Adam, giving him a 'I'm rooting for you' look.
"They can't be a couple, can they?"
Chandler's usual rant. "Then our circle of friends will be too gay!"
"..."
Ross's lips twitched, and he couldn't help but roll his eyes.
His wife is a lesbian, which has always been a sore spot for him. If Chandler hadn't also made fun of himself, he would have really wanted to punch Chandler a few times.
But there was nothing he could do; after all, Chandler's father was still dancing the Enchanted Nightmare Dance in Las Vegas.
"Well."
Adam was speechless, unsure how to respond.
When are they coming?
Monica asked, "Let us take a look."
"They're coming from Harvard University tomorrow."
Adam said, "Let's stay here for a few days and then go back."
Last time school started, Adam was just a freshman who only strolled around the Columbia University campus with Juno and the others.
Now that Adam is Experienced Driver and has money, he naturally wants to take them on a good adventure.
He had originally planned to buy a car and drive back, but Juno called to say she would come pick him up and they would go back together, so he decided not to buy one.
New York has a very well-developed public transportation system, making travel very convenient and eliminating the need to own a car.
Conversely, if you have a car, parking is still a hassle.
For example, none of Monica and her friends had cars, and when Phoebe offered to give them a ride, she meant she was borrowing her grandmother's taxi.
In the future, Ross excitedly bought a sports car to show off, but ended up stuck in a parking space for several days. When the cars in front and behind him finally moved, he saw an ugly man driving the same sports car as him, and he was so angry that he sold the car immediately.
Chandler earned a high income from data analysis throughout his career, Rachel later became a mid-to-high-level executive at a major fashion brand and also earned a high income, Joey earned even more as a regular on a soap opera. None of them ever bought a car.
It's not that I can't afford it, it's that I really don't need it.
Although Adam had several hundred thousand dollars, he also had many expenses, such as purchasing a cabin in the woods and necessary medical equipment, and hiring a specialist for training. These were the major costs.
Save where you can. Adam isn't Ross or Joey, who need sports cars to show off.
